Patent Lawsuits Filed by Former Microsoft CTO’s Firm

A private company known as intellectual venture has made claims to invest in “pure invention”. The business model is based on developing a patent portfolio that is big enough and also provide license to these companies with all their products. Launched in 2009, prototyping and research laboratory known as Intellectual Ventures Lab attracted some media coverage when the book SuperFreakonomics was successful in their efforts to reduce global climate change. The former Microsoft CTO, Nathan Myhryold who is a patent portfolio developer and broker as Intellectual Ventures started has filed a patent lawsuit against nine tech companies which includes Symantec, McAfee and Hynix Semiconductor. Intellectual Ventures has filed three patent infringement lawsuits. These lawsuits were announced by the company. The lawsuit was a clean point target towards software vendors like Symantec, McAfee, Trend Micro and Check Point Software Technologies. The next lawsuit in line targeted towards DRAM that is dynamic RAM and Flash memory vendors Hynix and Elpida Memory. The last lawsuit in the row is the FPGA (field-programmable gate array) vendors companies like Altera, Lattice Semiconductor, and Microsemi, which recently acquired Actel and its FPGA business. Intellectual Ventures have successfully negotiated license agreements with some of the top technology companies in the world.
