2D Support Added to Ubuntu Unity

Canonical continues its hard work to complete the new interface Unity, which will replace the traditional GNOME desktop in its next release of Ubuntu, the 11.04. One of the most popular questions in this regard concerns the hardware configuration and software for its proper functioning, since Unity expressly requires OpenGL graphics acceleration. The most fascinating of the new version of Debian-based operating system is that they use the interface instead of Gnome Light Unity Shell. In that regard, the developers have recently made it known that for the new release it will develop a more lightweight version called Unity 2D, just as the name implies it will function without any problems even on those computers where the hardware resources are not nearly as plentiful. The new interface uses Qt 4.7/QML and the same components that characterize the version that requires OpenGL graphics acceleration: indicators, BAMF, goddesses, and uTouch places. It is proposed as an alternative to the Unity 3D by providing almost all the functionality offered by “big brother”. Later it will be seen if Canonical will provide a special version of Ubuntu with Unity 2D or give you the chance in case of lack of system requirements to install Unity 2D later. It already has a PPA for those wishing to try this “new” version on your Ubuntu 10.10, which appears to have already affected many users for...

DriveSmart Android App

Location Labs have developed a new App for parents to curb their children multitasking with phones while driving. It is based on a GPS device in the phone which decides if the user is in motion and likely a car, it then proceeds to disable the phones ability to read or send texts and transfers all calls to your handsfree or voice mail. The texting while driving menace is looming large in todays environment so this app is supposedly based on a very large consumer base, for parents to ensure their children drive safe and do not get into a car crash. The app has two versions DriveSmart Basic and DriveSmart Plus. In the basic version the driver can tell the app to go into driving mode hence silencing all incoming calls and replies to messages with a custom text stating the user is driving, calls can also be routed through the Bluetooth handsfree. However DriveSmart plus automatically turns on ‘Driving mode’ when it thinks you are driving. It also comes with a web interface for the parents to monitor in case the user over rides this function. And a profile page with emergency contact information and medical specifications in case of an emergency. It currently supports the LG Optimus T but support for more phones is in the pipeline. However the app lacks the teeth to effectively police...

iYogi Scam Alert: Nigerian or 419 Internet Fraud and Scams

Nigerian or “419” fraud is a scam where victims receive emails from Nigeria offering them a large payout if they help the author illegally transfer money out of the country. The author promises to send the victim a check or wire payment and asks for personal information, such as bank account numbers. The victim is then asked to deposit the amount and mail the author a percentage, often claiming it is for taxes. Since banks hold checks to verify funds, victims actually send their own money without realizing it, only to find out that they’ve been duped when the check bounces days later. more… Here’s what a typical message looks like: Sample Email 1 Date: Fri, 3 Jun 2005 08:58:18 -0700 (PDT) From: Moses Odiaka [****@go.com] To: ****@go.com Subject: CONFIDENTIAL PROPOSAL My name is Mr.Moses Odiaka.I work in the credit and accounts department of Union Bank of NigeriaPlc,Lagos, Nigeria.
