Protecting your computer

Malware include all kinds of viruses, worms, trojans and spyware. So, it is highly recommended for the people to keep their computer systems free of malwares. There are many security related softwares which help the computers to stay away from malware. These softwares make a report every month about the types of malware the computers are getting affected with. It also informs its users about them and their threats. They help the customers by removing those malware by updating the database of the softwares every month. Password stealers and conficker are the two types of malware that topped the list in the month of June that were attacking the computers and taking control over that system.

Effects of Malware

A password stealer is a malware specially designed to collect bulk amount of data which comprises account names and their combined passwords. The collected information will be used by the attacker. Password stealer also works in association with keyloggers and other tracking softwares. It is mainly used to steal the passwords of the user of a particular computer or the whole computer network. This can be executed in a number of different ways on a computer. Password stealing trojans might collect data from files or registry keys of the computer which mostly contains all the passwords that a user uses in his computer. Another type of malware is employed where the user would normally enter the password and get that information.

Conficker malware is a type of worm that has affected millions of computers across the world in the month of June and took the top place in the malware list. It just works like botnets in the internet by sending spams and steals the entire data of the user of that computer. Conficker returned to the computers this month in the form of variant called Downadup. Downadup took the path of the original Conficker and jumped on to the limitation in Windows Server that lets code to be accomplished remotely when sharing a file is turned on, according to the security softwares. This also takes full benefit of regular and which can be easily guessed administrator passwords to halt some services of the operating system and anti-malware protection.

With a zoom in number of attacks by password stealing bot and the new threat Conficker, June proved to be another feather in the cap of malware. Consequently, computer users should employ anti-malware tools to keep away from these threats.
