How to Conserve Energy Settings of Your Laptop

Applying settings to a specific power plan

You can do power plan wide changes with respect to the feature that the laptop closing renders. These changes would be applicable to the power plan only and the others would stay unaffected. Follow the instructions below to make such changes.

Click on the Start menu and then Control Panel.

  • Click System and Security icon within the control panel and then click Power Options.
  • You would land to Select a power plan page. Click on Change plan settings for the specific plan that you intend to change.
  • You would land to the Change settings for the plan page, click on the Change advanced power settings button.
  • On the Advanced Settings page, expand Power buttons and lids, and then Lid close action. You would come up with a number of options to chose from that might include shut down, sleep, hibernate, and no action. You would even have distinct options for the laptop when it would be running on power supply and another when the computer might be running on the batter back up. Choose your desired action and OK.

These changes would make your system perform better and you can save energy and other resources at the same time. While it comes to the laptop, you are most of the time advised to send your laptop to the Sleep mode with the power button as well as the lid closing.
