Apple® recalls iPod® Nano first generation

This is not a news Steve Jobs would be happy about. But every day is not a Sunday. Though Apple is always at the top of its game, but as they say, “Everyone has a bad hair day.” And it’s Apple’s time, to have one now.

It was in 2009, when Apple offered to exchange a few defective pieces of iPod Nano in Korea. But this time, it’s time for the worldwide customers to bear the brunt. Apple has issued a recall of its first generation iPod Nano that were sold in between September 2005 and December 2006. The issue is being traced to a single battery supplier that produced batteries with manufacturing defects. These defective batteries might lead to overheating. Though no report of mishap is reported, but the ageing batteries are at risk.

If you are the one, who are still using iPod Nano first generation and have bought during the above-mentioned time period, then Apple will happily swap it with new ones. It will take Apple six weeks to do so, according to its website. If you are one of those who are a user, this is what you got to do:

1) Check your serial number here.

2) If your number matches, click here Apple will replace your iPod Nano in 6 weeks.

Last year it was Antennagate that brought Apple in a hard position, but it was almost resolved by a quick fix solution.

Now with Batterygate infront of it, will it rock the empire of Apple? At best Tim Crook will come on the stage assuring the love of Apple for its customer. But this wind in Apple’s empire will soon die out; it seems. After a year iPhone 5 will be launched. And most probably it will again capture the market, raking the highest moolah among its competitors. Let us hope that the hue and cry that has been brought by this Batterygate will soon be forgotten in front of the shine and grandeur of iPhone 5.

Versions of Apple® iPod®

Apple iPod Classic is a portable digital media player, whose latest version offers up to 160 GB of storage space. Till date there are 6 generations of the iPod which have been updated time and again to bring out newer versions. The 6 generations include the spin-off later which was re-integrated into the main iPod classic line. The suffix ‘classic’ was brought about with the 6th generation of the iPod named a classic and was made available in silver and black color much replacing the all white signature color.

The first generation was introduced with a slogan of ‘1000 songs in your pocket’ which made rave reviews and put the iPod on a high frame. It had an LCD display in black and white. It consisted of 5 GB storage space to accommodate 1000 songs. In March of 2002, Apple introduced the 10 GB model of its first generation model.

The second generation was introduced in July 2002 with a cover added to the FireWire port and also the ‘hold’ switch was redesigned. It was made available in 10 GB and 20 GB storage capacities. The first generation iPod was sold at a price of US $ 299.

The third generation of Apple iPod saw the advent of a complete redesign of the previous model making it thinner in size and introduced the docking facility to the FireWire facility. It was available in 15 GB model which was later replaced by 20 GB and then the 30 GB model. A completely non-mechanical facility was included called the ‘Touch Wheel’.

The fourth generation saw the iPod replaced with a click wheel instead of the touch wheel. Introduced in July 2004, this generation of the iPod consisted of 4 buttons below the touch sensitive scroll area. While a dock and carrying case as well as the touch scroll area for the higher end version were significant changes made, the iPod was being made available with 40 GB storage space now.

The fifth generation iPod was introduced soon after the iPod Nano. Consisting of a 2.5” QVGA screen with a smaller click wheel, the iPod also let one play videos on it. This was updated in the Apple iPod in September 2006 which included a brighter screen and capacity to play videos. However, it did not bundle the iTunes application in it and required users to download iTunes from the Apple website.

The 6th generation iPod was introduced in September 2007, with the suffix ‘Classic” attached to it. The color of the iPod was replaced with silver and black combination. It consisted of 14 GB hard disk space. It remains to be seen though many think that the iPod will be updated rather than be discontinued. Maybe Apple does not think it necessary to bring out an update just yet.

Well when we talk of the mostly downloaded iOS application system then the first name that comes to the mind is that of the Face Book. This is a popular site and is used by most of the people. There are a lot of people who avail the services and there are several aspects that have been taken care of in this regard as per the downloading aspect of the iOS. If Facebook is at the top then it can certainly be said easily about the second placed most downloaded iOS, which is the Pandora. This is very popular among the people too and there are a lot of features and functions that a person can avail and this is also one of the best features that has people and made this popular in the process. If the first 2 position is taken by Facebook and Pandora respectively then we see that the third place, though very surprisingly, belongs to the application from the Google Mobile. This may appear very surprising but the fact of the matter remains that this is indeed very popular and there are also a lot of features that have made it popular among the people. Well this is a feature that has been welcomed by Apple in a rather positive manner and has actually unveiled a page that displays all the total number of downloads of the iTunes. These downloads have been broken into categories and they are paid iPhones apps, free iPhones apps, free iPad apps and paid iPad apps.

It may look a little bizarre when you see that Apple actually rank the apps in order, but even the expert developers have said that this is exactly what the company is doing and here are some of the list of the popular apps that have become a rage among the people. Apple® to make navigation changes in next iPhone and iPad

Apple’s recent addition of Multitouch gestures for the iPad in its latest iOS 4.3 beta is because the iPad will soon be losing the Home button. So now users will be using the multitouch user interface to navigate to the home screen or to sift through other apps. The next iPhone too like the iPad will be launched without the home button. These changes will be seen by us in the next generation of iPads and iPhones this year.

The next generation iPad is rumored to feature a high resolution Retina display with a dual core graphics chip. The iPad would utilize the high resolution screen and a more powerful GPU to play 1080p HD video. The new graphics chip powering the iPad 2 is rumored to possess four times the processing power of the current chips in use. Giving company to the powerful graphics chip is a multiple-core ARM Cortex A9 processor. It is rumored that these high definition display and super powered processing chips will also be bundled with the next generation of iPhone, iPod touch, and apple TV. The iPad 2 is also being said to feature dual cameras, one on the backside with a flash and the other for FaceTime with a slimmer profile and more powerful speakers.

The next generation iPhone is said to feature a multi core apple A5 processor coming bundled with a dual core graphics chip (GPU), which would provide support for graphic intensive apps like gaming. It will provide users a true HD experience in their hands.

It is being rumored that iPhone 5 will also feature support for Near Field Communications. NFC is a new thing which has many possibilities; the most obvious would be using it in place of a credit card for making payments. iPhone currently features a superb 640 x 960 Retina screen display which gave the iPhone an extremely high resolution display. The pixel density is so high on it that a user would be unable to see individual pixels. So a screen or resolution revamp seems unlikely.

Also rumors are doing the circles that Apples featured Photo taking application, Photo Booth will be introduced in the next generation iPad. There are also possibilities of for iLife apps for iOS to be showcased soon.

The next generation iPad and iPhone are rumored to be launched in mid 2011. They are coming fully loaded with the above features and also those which are being carried forward from previous versions. The new iPad will completely redefine computing and will distort boundaries between a solid computing device and a tablet. The iPhone 5 will on the other hand give you an experience of HD visuals high speed processing and a unique multitasking experience, giving in your hand the power of a computing device.
