Microsoft® to use Dolby Digital® Technology in Windows® 8 PCs and tablets

Software giant Microsoft Corporation has announced that it will incorporate Dolby Laboratories sound technology in its upcoming operating system Windows 8-based PCs and tablets.

Windows 8 will support the playback of Dolby-encoded files, with the firm saying that it will offer out-of-the-box support. According to Microsoft, Dolby Digital Plus will be supported on all versions of Windows 8 including the ARM architecture.

Benefits of Dolby Digital Technology

“With the incredible growth of online download and streaming media, particularly for video content, this agreement ensures a great audio experience for those consumers who wish to download or stream TV and movies containing Dolby Digital Plus. Additionally, all of their existing and future home videos recorded with Dolby Digital Plus audio will work great on Windows 8 right out of the box,” said Tami Reller, CFO and CMO of Windows and Windows Live at Microsoft.

The collaboration ensures the presence of Dolby Digital format on Windows ecosystem beyond Blu-ray or DVD, and creates the opportunity to bring a differentiated audio experience to Windows 8-based PCs and tablets. What should be noted here is that PC makers will be forced to pay for Dolby Digital support.

Google™ at MWC 2012: Android is the lifeline in 300 million smartphones

Google continues to compete with other mobile app stores. Once again, the company updated that more than 3 million apps are stored in the Android Market.

Google is recognized as an important exhibitor for an event like the Mobile World Congress. Last year too, the company could create a center of attention in MWC just by sharing about apps developed for Android smartphones and tablets. Undoubtedly, Android is a terrific innovation and there are millions of apps posted for different purposes. Recently, it has been reported that in MWC 2012, Google has disclosed that the Android Market is holding about 450 million apps. Not only this, approximately 1 billion apps are downloaded within a single month. However, there is still some more time left to cross Apple’s app store.

In a blog post, Andy Rubin ( SVP for Mobile) mentioned “If you walk around the Android stand, it’s also evident that our hardware partners are thriving. There are 100+ devices on display at the conveyor belt bar, which is just a small portion of the 800+ Android devices that have launched to date.” And as new Android tablets are going to come later this year, the figure mark for apps will definitely go on top.

RIM will take its BlackBerry OS 10 at MWC 2012 and talk about the built-in features. For quite some time, it was informed that the BlackBerry OS 10 will reach the customers this year as one of the spokesperson from BlackBerry said “2012 will be the year BlackBerry 10, so we will show the possibilities of our future operating system, and demonstrate the ability of BlackBerry OS 7, in particular, focusing on NFC technology and applications of that work in conjunction with BBM.” But later it got clear that the company will be focusing at MWC for its release.

Apart from NFC and BBM, the developers would get a specific environment within BlackBerry OS 10 to experience HTML5 on BlackBerry phones along with some capabilities for social apps. However, the BlackBerry devices running the new software are still under way. So, get ready to welcome a faster and a robust platform for your BlackBerry phones. In one way, it is quite certain that once BlackBerry devices (smartphones and tablets) based on BlackBerry OS 10 are out in the market, the market share for RIM will increase a little and might create some tension for other mobile brands.
