Flash on Android is put to the Test

The new version of android 2.2, supported by Flash 10.1 betas, age out for trials. Adobe Flash, a multimedia platform is to add animation video and interactivity to WebPages, has been developed from Macromedia from PC and mice by Adobe system in 1996. Though there are much disputes about its applicability into a mobile version, Google Android has installed it considering its versatile applicability. According to Google, several new tools and options have been connected and those are unavailable previously.

Objection about Flash from various sources: Adobe already has made good business from flash after its development in 1996. When the mobile market is expanding and newly developed technologies are being installed in it to make it much effective and communicative. Adobe system has developed the Flash (the contraction of future + plash) as the mobile version. In this way Apple has come as the barriers. In April 2010, Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Inc has shown six reasons, including life of battery and security of not recommending that flash for their iPhones, iPods and iPads. MacAfee has also recommended that Flash software of Adobe will be the main target for attack in 2010. Many security agencies of software also think so.

In reaction, in an Ad campaign, Adobe has commented like this, “We believe that consumers should be able to freely access their favorite content and applications, regardless of what computer they have, what browser they like, or what device suits their needs,” Adobe co-founders has also said “No company — no matter how big or how creative — should dictate what you can create, how you create it, or what you can experience on the Web.”

Despite all this Google’s Android 2.2 is going on well. Feedbacks from users are positive. Jeffrey Hammand, a principal analyst at Foresters Research has recently posted his comments in a block is “I have not noticed a significant differences in battery life when i view Flash enabled content. ”  They has also appreciated that the quality of video and audio work in beta is marvellous like the BBC. We, outsiders, expect the battle of blabbers mouth be stopped. Both the companies the Adobe system and the Apple are in the good book of people. Maybe they all are true from their point of view. In spite of that, science and technologies will proceed through their way overcoming all the obstacles. Mutual exchanges of knowledge will unveil fantastic discoveries every day. Human being should take advantage of those. Android with Flash is already in the line to achieve to success and wish if passes the test with huge credit. Wish once more the Flash get enhanced to be fit in the iPod and iPad in the future.

RIM All Set To Hit Market with the New BlackBerry OS 6.0

RIM has recently announced that it will come up with a new Operating system (OS) that will empower its Blackberry devices. RIM hopes that the new Blackberry OS 6.0 will help it to change the mindset of its customers regarding the Blackberry devices. The main focus of new Blackberry OS will be on web browsing. RIM has also said that the new Blackberry OS will be released in the third quarter of this year.

Though the e-mail experience with the Blackberry platform is very strong, however the web browsing experience for many customers has been disappointing. In order to improve the browser experience RIM announced in February, that the next browser that the company will be launching will use WebKit. WebKit is a browser engine that can be found on handsets that run on Android OS as well as on the Apple iPhone.

The new web browser in the Blackberry OS will include features like support for tabs, improvised design on favorite section  and pinch to zoom. The Blackberry OS 6.0 possesses multi touch support for suitable devices. Moreover, it will be bundled with new a photo viewer and music player that will improve the multimedia handling of the Blackberry devices.

Also there are some changes that have been made on the home screen of the Blackberry OS, as users now user will be able to customize the home screen of the Blackberry OS by organizing the applications and favorites.

The new OS is compatible with current devices in the market—so unlike Android, iPhone, and the forthcoming Windows Phone 7, RIM clearly has no intention of going down the mandatory touch interface road any time soon.

Apple API to Help Adobe for Accelerating Flash Videos

Though there was no response from Adobe regarding the Apple’s decision of keeping Flash from its devices like iPhone, iPad etc but now, Apple has changed its decision.  The war between Apple and Adobe got heated when Steve Jobs came up with a statement in which he stated that Flash delivers poor performance.

But now, after acknowledging that the future of Flash is not shady, Apple has recently added an official API that will help Adobe regarding the improvement of Flash’s performance. The new API added by Apple will access the H.264 decoding features of some NVIDIA GPUs which have been used in recent devices from Apple. This API will help Adobe to improve the performance of Flash Player during video playback.

The decision regarding keeping Flash off from Apple’s devices came because of the performance disparity that Mac users experienced while going for Flash. The reason behind the performance disparity of Flash with the MAC OS is that Mac OS X lacks APIs which are used by Adobe for Flash Player on Microsoft’s Windows Operating System.

Apple has recently added a Video Decode Acceleration Framework (VDAF) in its Man OS X 10.6.3 update. With these APIs, Adobe will be able to access the H.264 decoding hardware which is present in the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, 320M, and GT 330M GPUs.

Adobe has confirmed that after the addition of these APIs, Adobe will start working on an additional Flash Player release which will be released shortly after Flash Player 10.1 to include this functionality for the hardware configurations supported by the new APIs.

Well after hearing this news, most of the users who are using Macs, including NVIDIA 9400M-equipped MacBooks, MacBook Pros, iMacs, and Mac minis will be happy. The APIs will also work on the MacBook Pro models that were released earlier this month. However, the users who are using older Macs or still running Leopard or older versions of Mac OS X will not be so lucky to get these updated APIs.

iPhone Hacked to Run Google Android

David Wang, who is the member of the iPhone Dev Team has successfully hacked the iPhone to run on an Android OS. The hacked iPhone was displayed on a YouTube video that featured, Wang toying away with the installation of an Android OS on iPhone.

David has demonstrated that one can successfully run an android OS on an iPhone, without any glitch. Some of the key features of the video included, rebooting of the iPhone with the Android OS, making calls, listening to music and opening various Android applications.

The hack is certainly a technical achievement in the gadget world, as demonstrates the technological developments with, limitless potential of the iPhone. However one of the most interesting theories about any hack on Apple products is the ability to maneuver around Apple’s technology policy, as its license “regime” restricts several competitors, to develop application without adhering to Apple standards.

It’s only through these hacks that one can get a true sense of how, vulnerable technology is in terms of security. But at the same time it provides an insight into the actual potential through which, you can utilize application within the domain of a device.

According to David Wang in his blog”, It should be pretty simple to port forward to the iPhone 3G. The 3GS will take more work. Hopefully with all this groundwork laid out, we can make Android a real alternative or supplement for iPhone users.”

iPhone users will certainly await more such hacks. Especially with the leak of the iPhone 4G, let’s see what other loopholes Apple might have left in its iPhone 3G.

Jolicloud

Netbooks are in thing nowadays. All the companies are vying to get the larger part of the market share in this new segment. While all that is happening on the hardware front, there is no proprietary software tailored just for Netbooks. While the costlier Netbooks offer Windows 7, most of the others have turned towards Linux thanks to its reputation of being light on the meagre resources these Netbooks possess. We have searched through quite a few netbook OS and one that has managed to catch our eye is Jolicloud.

Founded by Tariq Krim, the project has just come out of Alpha testing and is available with the pre beta release tag. Jolicloud handles both desktop applications as well as cloud applications very well. For first timers, Jolicloud comes paired up with virtual machine software and thus you can give it a trial run on your Windows before installing it. There is also the option of running the ISO file as a Live CD too. Though the option to install applications is disabled in the Live mode. The installation by default takes 8GB of space by default in Windows. The installation is very much similar to an original OS so you will to specify details like username, password, machine name etc. To install on a new drive the ISO will have to be burnt on to a disc and then boot from it. The user is presented with the option of first trying out the Live version too. You can also convert your USB drive into a bootable device and load Jolicloud on to it. This is pretty useful for Netbooks which do not have an optical drive.

The UI of Jolicloud is kept simple while exuding a feeling of freshness. The dashboard is organized where the applications are on the right side of the screen while system folders are on the left. Jolicloud, by default uses Mozilla Prism to run its web applications and therefore all of them open in Firefox like windows. Tweaking the look and feel or the internal working of Jolicloud is pretty simple too. The control panel resembles Windows and this helps people who are new to Linux.

There is an application manager which is pretty useful. It arranges cloud based as well as desktop applications together. There is not much of a difference in how Jolicloud handles both the type of applications. Jolicloud supports Wine for those who simply cannot stay away from some of their Windows applications. There are also loads of applications pre-loaded in Jolicloud. They are arranged in categories such as Accessories, Development, Games, Graphics etc.

Jolicloud is one of the more complete netbook OS available despite its pre beta tag. It is faster than Moblin though not as fast as Chrome, but it also features desktop functionality while Chrome only supports cloud based computing. Reviews also state that Wi-Fi connectivity is better on Jolicloud than on Moblin or Chrome. Thus go ahead and give this fresh new flavour of Linux a try.
