Sony® PlayStation phone

Sony is one of the pioneers in the gaming market, with its PlayStation range of game consoles. Sony has a wide range of PlayStation consoles. The first model of PlayStation was launched in 1994 in Japan. PlayStation has three components, including Media Center, online service for gaming and line controllers or input device for the Media Center. Currently three models of PlayStation are available in the market, PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3. Sony also manufactures portable PlayStation called as PlayStation Portable (PSP). The PSP device is like a cell phone, but specifically it is used for gaming purpose and for media entertainment. PSP console was launched in 2005. Since it was launched, it has been a great success in the world market and established various records of selling.

The specification or configuration of PSP is very good and ideal for High Definition (HD) and 3D games. Since many days, there has been news regarding the plan of Sony to launch the PlayStation phone in the market, which is made for gaming and also there are facilities of a phone as like any cellular phone. Sources say that this phone is a combination of Sony Ericsson Experia and PlayStation Portable. The phone has a modified chip of PSP Go and has the Android Gingerbread operating system. It will be a full touch screen device and will also have a slider section, which will feature four buttons of directional pad and touch pad for the gaming purpose. PlayStation phone will also feature a camera which will be based on Sony Ericsson Experia.

Sony’s PSP2 Delayed due to CPU problems

In the world of handheld game systems, Sony has hit a snag again when it comes to releasing. According to circulating reports, Sony’s PSP2 will be delayed due to issues involving the processor. It appears that the PSP2, a successor to the former PSP, will support an Nvidia Tegra 2 CPU. This is according to Charlie Demerjian of Semi Accurate. Charlie was among those who attended a recent SEMICON event in Santa Clara, where he overheard a number of complaints based on the performance Nvidia’s new Tegra 2 chip. Due to the CPU’s power consumption problem; Sony is now holding back the development of the device until Nvidia squares up its CPU issues.

Miscalculations

Previously, Nvidia had promised Sony to squeeze in on its power consumption to the accepted 5% margin. Instead, according to Nvidia engineers, the Tegra 2 is more than 20% over budget. This may explain why Nvidia PR changed its focus, all over sudden, of the PSP screed to as much as possible, avoid the word ‘phone’. Luckily for Sony, the PSP2 does not have phone capabilities.

A way out.

For now, Sony’s possible way out is completely unknown. Analysts and eager consumers can only speculate over the limited possible choices that Sony has. Will they wait for a customized Tegra 2 that will meet their requirements to be introduced? Will they be forced to downgrade their PSP2’s specifications to give room for a decent battery life?  Will they have to find an alternative for Tegra 2, and is it possible in the first place.

Compromise

At the end of the day for Sony and any other manufacture, it’s about delivering quality and not how fast quantity is delivered. Why be in a hurry to deliver faster than your market can consume? As much as competition might be tight, all that consumers need is pure quality. Whether it be an upgrade or a new product. Sony had better play their cards right.

A complete letdown

Considering that there must have been some few problems (they being minor or major notwithstanding) during the creation process of PSP2, the power issue might have made things even worse for Sony. This means inevitable delays in Sony’s part and possible loss of valuable time and money, both during creation and postponing the launch. If they will eventually have to downgrade the PSP2 specifications, they will still be faced with the issue of going back to the drawing board, which is both resourceful and stannous. Fitting into Sony’s shoes, anybody would be very disappointed with Nvidia.

Continuous rumors and speculations.

Being mere speculations, word is that the situation in the streets is as bad as it is in Nvidia board rooms when Sony officials walk in. On the same note, this might be the reason for Sony’s lame E3 conference with respect to PSP. The PSP2 was missing at the conference. According to Charlie Demerjian, Sony might be planning to make public the PSP2 at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) that is to takes place in early January next year in Las Vegas Nevada.

Which is Better Xbox Kinect or PlayStation Move?

In 2006, Nintendo introduced a motion based controller to its Wii. But console companies like Sony and Microsoft as well as some industry analysts thought that such development was unappealing for gamers.

They turned out to be wrong. Nintendo dominated the market in this area for four years until Sony and Microsoft changed their opinions about it and admitted that such technology is the next big thing. So these companies introduced their own line of motion based control technology in their products.

The one more familiar among the two recently released products is the one made by Sony, the Playstation Move. It appears similar to the Wii Remote and Nunchuk at first glance except that there is no cord that connects the controller pairs and there is this luminescent orb on top of the controllers.
In terms of ergonomics, the Playstation move has a better design than the Wii controller. Its buttons are easier to access than the Wii and one of its controllers has both an analog and digital controller.

On the other hand, the Xbox Kinect which is manufactured by Microsoft is not very familiar in design. The Kinect is not the specific controller and is an attachment to the Xbox 360 to act like a motion sensing device. The new Xbox 360 Slim has a designated USB port made specifically for the Kinect. The Kinect should be properly positioned in front of the Xbox 360 so that it can sense the full body motion of the game player. Its voice recognition technology also allows the Xbox 360 to be controlled by voice commands.

Since these two new products are really different, it would be hard to make an objective comparison. Apart from the similarity that they are both based on motion control technology in the gaming industry, they are different in terms of looks, design, cost, and control scheme. In terms of price, the Playstation Move is more expensive than the Wii at its price of $50.

The Kinect, however, is sold at $150 making it cost at half the cost of the Xbox 360 where it is attached into. In terms of capability, the Playstation Move can only detect hand motion whereas the Kinect can detect full body motion. Furthermore, the Kinect has this voice recognition technology which is not found in the other products that we have mentioned previously.

However, judging from the amount of time that these two companies spent in promoting these new technologies at their respective E3 press conferences, it can be deduced that these companies are rooting the importance of these new products in their game consoles.

Since the number of games that can be played using motion control technology is quite limited and incompatibility issues with their other games may arise, these new products may not make it easy. In addition with the high cost of these products and the recessing economy, only time can really tell how these products will pace in the market.

Sony’s Keynote Address at the E3

Sony has spent a great deal of time for its two hour long E3 keynote in which it discussed the upcoming move of the PlayStation. But still there is more to come in which it has to be revealed that what is the new plan for the subscription to the PSN, the brand new game called the Twisted Metal game as well as the release date for the GT5 (Gran Turismo 5).

New Subscription Plan

PlayStation Plus will be the new plan for the subscription to the PlayStation Network and the subscribers will have to pay an amount of $ 49.99 in order to get full free access to the PSN games, which can be easily kept by the subscribers till the time of subscription and also they would be able to have exclusive and early access to the beta versions and to the demos. They will also be given an auto update feature which would allow them to download certain content of their choice, exclusive DLC and some of the other content free of charges such as the Minis and themes etc. You can also pay $17.99 if you wish to have these services for a period of three months rather than paying an amount of $50 for the whole year.

GT5 is coming

A brand new addition to the Twisted Metal series has been done for the gamers. This has been developed by Game studio, Sleep and David Jeff’s Eat. PS3 exclusive will be released some time in the coming year and would be featuring the motorcycles, helicopters, multiplayer mode which would be based on the objectives, and also the factions that would be based of different characters such as the Sweet tooth. It would also be having huge and massive stages with towering skyscrapers that would be connected by such highways that are filled with traffic.

Third party support

In some of the keynote’s surprises, Gabe Newell of Valve, who had been infamous for the negative comments he made about the PS3, has said that not only Portal 2 would be played on the Sony console but it will also be supported on the Steam Cloud. This could be done for the ease of users so that they can easily switch between the PS3 and the PC for accessing the data which they have saved. He further added that the version of PS3 is going to be the best of all. EA also disclosed some of the games that will be having content for the PS3 exclusively.

Through Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Ubisoft is also getting in the action of PS3 exclusive. This version of the game would be featuring the exclusive missions as well as the multiplayer beta that would be only available on the Song console.

Many of the great announcements were made at the E3 keynote of Sony but some of the most notable titles were mission. Still the show was great for the company and had many new titles added to the list of the games. The third party support was also very strong in the show and many great announcements were made.

Shadow of the Colossus in HD: This is What it Could be

Shadow of Colossus, published by SCEI (Sony Computer Entertainment) has been making everybody crazy and is widely believed that it would be provided with the same treatment as has been offered for God of War Collection. Rumors are on that Ico and Shadow of Colossus, the adventurous cum action oriented video game that has been published as well as developed for the PlayStation 2 would be receiving the matching treatment till at least preceding to the release of The Last Guardian. This buzzing of the gossip mill that PS2 hits Ico and Shadow of the Colossus is all set to the HD treatment has been going on for quite a long time. This excellent news would get many gamers heart racing. Not only that, there was further rumored that the double pack is supposed to hit the supplies in the initial part of 2010.

While the gossips have been churning and Sony has up till now to substantiate these buzzing, Eurogamer, the leading sovereign betting website in Europe, has taken the resolution of operating the game through a console emulator in order to find out what the budding High Definition (HD) description may possibly look like.

Performance

The High Definition version of Shadow of the Colossus has established that the outcome was remarkable. It illustrated enhanced quality and features even while the console emulator failed to deliver the outcome of fog that are current in the unique game. When the game is run with the help of emulator, the resolution is not only improved but also demonstrated that the prospect of HD restructure might develop the border speed of the game. As per TSA, Shadow of the Colossus is resolved to getting a high definition make over on PlayStation 3 in the near expectations. But, Shadow of the Colossus’s expertise utilizes the PlayStation 2 in features that the emulator makers have up till now to fully put into practice in PCSX2 – hence while the knowledge of PC illustrates nearer to the PS2 on the entertainment with its discharge, it might not be the entirely specific replica that one might look forward to. After the vision of HD phase of Shadow of the Colossus, it was obvious that ICO’s artwork has lots more to provide us with when it is set free from the boundaries of average characterization.

Compatibility

Shadow of the Colossus (SOTC) is working from the HD. SOTC has also been working fine under ToxicOS. A newly patched High Definition loader can cooperate and participate in the running of Shadow of the Colossus and other games that have not been working before the patch. The patch is latest than 0.7c. Along with that, in order to make ToxicOS to work, one needs a DMS4 pro chip while this is a stand alone elf. According to some people, the new patch is also permitting to play Capcom Classics off the High Definition, but as regards the other games, it is still unknown. Hence, it has been understood that it has been the same as 0.7c with its supplementary compatibility that was used for the playing of Capcom Classics Collection, Shadow of the Colossus etc.

With a modest endurance in offering and amid a savor of high-concept venture, one can discover know-how in Shadow of the Colossus that is not like any new games.

NIER: A game worth skipping…

It was definitely a good strategy for Square-Enix to release NIER after Final Fantasy VIII thereby making gamers to think of this game too as a highly fast paced action game. NIER possesses none of the superior story and the engaging gameplay Final Fantasy VIII had. NIER’s development had been outsourced to Cavia and frankly, they messed it up.

The story begins as follows. You are a man with a daughter managing to scrape a meagre existence in the city ruins that has been ravaged by monsters. The girl develops a cough and you set out in search of food and somehow end up in a battle at the outskirts of the ruins. The battle is only a preview of the fast paced action coming your way when you have unlocked your hero’s skills and learnt new attacks. The scene closes on a tearful note with the daughter dying in your hands.

Turns out that was all a dream or a sort of flashback, you are Nier, the strong arm who is trying to find work in order help your daughter Yonah recover from the cough. Turns out the actual world has ended in the previously mentioned scene and you are actually living in a fantasy world. The story may be confusing and not too great but that definitely is not the worst aspect of the game. The dialogue delivery is simply bad. The voice acting is very dull and monotonous and is more likely to induce a headache than engaging you in the game. The dialogues too are not too great and the developers should really invest in a few writers.

Battles and combat are the probably the best executed aspect of the game but compared to any other game worth its salt, it is very average. The monsters in the prologue seem very strange, appearing to be constructed out of binary figures. Moreover fighting is pretty unbalanced most of the time. Some of the enemy attacks cannot be parried and the movement is too sluggish to evade them. Also some of the attacks and spells Nier learns midway through the game make it way too easy, particularly the Dark Lance ranged attack will defeat almost all the monsters.

Levelling up of your hero is messed up. There is no way to find out if your hero’s level is enough to undertake a particular mission till you attempt it and get defeated. The skills and spells learnt by your hero are notified in small pop ups but to learn how to enable the move you have to go the start screen. Almost every gate or doorway triggers a load screen which soon starts to get to you. The graphics are not to great either with most of the setting pretty dull and drab.

NIER is game which would perhaps have been successful on PS2 or the Xbox but definitely not the current generation of games. It is a pretty dull and in fact ugly game with no intriguing plot or proper gameplay. The whole execution of the game has been sloppy and we recommend you give this game a skip.
