There was a time when Google’s very first social networking site “Orkut” was in great demand. But with the advent of other social networking websites, soon the traffic on Orkut came down. Thus the owner of the website, Google has now decided to say goodbye to Orkut on September 30, 2014. Fortunately, till then you can continue using the website and even export your data, pictures as well as community posts using Google Takeout. This service will enable you to download your Orkut data to your computer in a zip file.
Here’s how you can download data from your Orkut account
Before you start, it is important to note that you can only download data from your own account. This means that you cannot download testimonials or scraps you sent. You can only manage to download data that you have received. To save file using Google Takeout, follow the below given steps:
Step 1: Open Google Takeout and fill required details to sign in.
Step 2: Select ‘Choose services’.
Step 3: Now select ‘Orkut’.
Step 4: Click on ‘Create archive’. It will take a few minutes to archive the data. If you want, you can leave the page. Once the archive is ready, you will get an email.
Step 5: When the data has been archived, click on ‘Download’.
The best part about this method to download data is that, there’s no limit to archive information. But in case, you don’t want to download data and archive it, especially pictures in HTML format, you can export them directly to your Google+ account. Check out how:
Step 1: Open Google+ home page and log in to your account.
Step 2: Login to your Orkut account and open the album export page.
Step 3: Now select all the albums that you would to like to export. Or click on ‘Select all’.
Step 4: Click on ‘Import selected’ transfer your photos. Note that these pictures will be visible to you only. To make them visible to your Google+ members, you can go to privacy settings and select the desired changes.
So all the Orkut users pack up your stuff and get ready to bid adieu to your account.
