LG, in addition to selling its latest tablet PCs in the US, has also planned to ship versions without 4G support to countries outside the country. Sources within the company had said that the company has planned to release the Wi-Fi and 3G supported models of its Google Honeycomb G-Slate tablet to the United Kingdom as well as other countries. The LG has revealed the 4G version of the G-Slate Tablet PC in the Consumer Electronics Show 2011, held in Las Vegas this year. This latest gadget from the house of LG had been designed for T-Mobile in the Unites States.

LG has detracted from selling its 4G models outside the US due to the fact that 4G is not available anywhere in the world, except in the US. LG has reported that its 4G model can deliver download speeds of up to 21 Mbps. By releasing different versions of its tablet PC, LG has taken a leaf out of Apple’s campaign. Apple’s iPad is available in different versions; while one has 3G, the other version is Wi-Fi enabled. This way, there are various versions of Apple’s single product, which is why it has become popular. LG aims to mimic the success of Apple with its G-Slate Tablet PC, but only time can tell how its new plans go. For the time being, LG has not yet revealed specific release dates for its tablet PC. It is slated to release further details in the Mobile World Congress that is going to take place between 14th and 17th February in Barcelona, Spain.

Clearwire at the CES 2011 installed an indoor WiMAX network for broadband connectivity via Toshiba’s embedded Intel 6250 PCI Express Mini card. Intel like its other chipsets and processors made history once again with launch of the Sandy Bridge Processor family.

There are some amazing features in this processor family, below we describe the features.

It has several features and the first is the single monolithic design that includes the processor graphics core alongside two, one is four cores and up to 8 MB shared L3 cache on a new ring bus, It is shared with the integrated graphics core. And the second one with L3 running at full core-clock speed.

The sandy bridge processor is connected to the peripheral control hub (PCH) via a single 20Gb/s direct media interface connection. The other features includes, AES-NI instructions- it provides the encryption/decryption acceleration and also it add Intel’s Advanced Vector Extensions(AVX). This will improve its floating-point performance for media-rich applications.

This processor is also has GPU-accelerated encoding , it makes On-line games like NFS(Need for speed) possible for mainstream gamers and also for  extreme gamers. It has also the Turbo Boost 2.0 with all the cores being pushed that makes a single threaded games like Need For Speed performance possible. There are some more games that can be played with 4G like ”Marvel Super Hero Squad Online” for the first time using a sandy bridged-based Lenovo T420 thinkpad laptop. It is also embedded with  Sierra Wireless LTE PCI Express Mini Card that is connected to the commercial Las Vegas Verizon LTE network. At CES 2011, it was a rare occasion because Intel was launching a historical laptop i.e. an Intel-Inside laptop with LTE 4G internet connectivity.

Zayo Extends FTT Coverage With A New Fiber Tower

The drive and activities of major operators of wireless technology such as Sprint, AT&T Mobility, Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile to expand their individual WiMAX network deployments, 3G and even the emerging 4G LTE has created a market opportunity for other aggressive alternative providers. Zayo Bandwidth is one such provider of alternative wireless backhaul technology that seeks to take advantage of thes new and emerging market opportunity.

Market

It is a fact that there are now many wireless backhaul providers emerging in the primary Tier markets of which even includes Verizon and AT&T (integrated wireline/wireless operators). These operators in the major markets are all seeking to leverage their wireline counterpart network. However a more challenging factor is if these same network operators are willing or able to expand their activities into the tertiary or secondary market where facilities are notably scarce.

Zayo Bandwidth like other aggressive wireless backhaul providers are carving a sizeable niche for themselves servicing the tertiary and secondary markets that cannot be reached by the individual fiber networks of incumbents or even many of the relatively larger wholesalers.

Business Strategy

One effective way that Zayo Bandwidth responds to the market demands is by continuously expanding its FTT (fiber-to-tower) footprint. Zayo has recently announced the addition of TDM and Ethernet services to its wireless tower sites situated in Wilkes Barre, Pa and Central. This recent expansion of its network has increased the total number of Zayo’s FTT served locations to over 1,700 with another 800 other new locations still pending.

Zayo Bandwidth’s Vice President of sale and business development, Chris Murphy stated that Zayo’s strategy is to place its network assets where their customers need them, and that they plan to continuously deploy more to meet their needs. He further stated in a release by Zayo Bandwidth that what they do is more than just to deploy fiber, but to design customized networks that are implemented by the fully trained and experienced support staff.
Major wireless carries are usually handicapped by the lack of available backhaul fiber solutions in areas of the country that are less populated and remote. However the industry continues to demand increasing wireless capacity coverage for users in such remote places. Zayo Bandwidth has steadily established itself as a key solutions provider of FTT bandwidth giving wireless carriers more route diversity.

Zayo’s various FTT deployments all have the capacity to provide FTT services that support 3G and even the new 4G networks. Moth 3G and 4G are increasingly in demand as choice tools for high data transfer and various other demanding bandwidth applications.

Zayo Bandwidth presently has over 2,500 FTT locations already deployed and functional with a number still under construction. John Scrano, President of Zayo Bandwidth said that the company presently works with and serves all the large wireless carriers. The company still has plans to deploy more FTT locations to be able to better serve their customers and Wireless carriers and to keep in pace with their growth requirements.

Motorola and RIM Finally Settled over Dispute

Motorola and Research in Motion (RIM), two of the largest telecommunications and mobile communications companies in the world, have finally agreed on a settlement over their heated dispute regarding the patents of wireless technologies. The settlement terms included that both companies will have a cross-licensing agreement and patent transferring over technologies which involved cellular data, Wi-Fi, and email.
Both companies will receive patent rights to the key wireless technologies like:

• 2G,
• 3G,
• 4G,
• 802.11, and
• Wireless e-mail.

They will transfer the patent rights directly to each other. RIM may have been the one who yielded to the deal since they were also made to pay an upfront settlement fee and certain ongoing royalty fees to Motorola. Other details of the agreement were not disclosed but it assured that the agreement settles everything and ends all the litigation between the two companies.

The dispute between them started and became official just this year when Motorola, the Android friendly company, filed a case with the US International Trade Commission on RIM’s alleged infringement on five of Motorola’s patents.

The lawsuit also accused RIM of stalling deliberately on purpose and threatening a ban on Blackberry phones’ trading operations to force a deal. The Blackberry phone is one of RIM’s main products. Motorola also asked the ITC to ban the imports of the Blackberry phones into the US as a penalty to RIM.

As a response to the lawsuit, RIM in turn sued Motorola for cheating or rather gouging on its patents related to basic Smartphone technology. The Canadian firm RIM was previously accused of a similar patent case last February but was victorious when it was found not to have violated a single patent. However, it seems that they have not escaped the similar patent related issues.

The patents included in the dispute were related to technologies like Wi-Fi, application management, power management, and user interface. According to Motorola, RIM once had license to use such technologies but the licensing deals ended last 2007.

RIM also has another complaint with the ITC where Eastman Kodak alleged that RIM and Apple infringed on their patent which was related to technology of digital imaging. The ITC is currently investigating such allegations by Kodak.

Both companies refused to provide the financial terms of the settlement but these kinds of deals usually involve large amounts in dozens or even hundreds of millions of dollars.
