Acer® Announces Iconia smart phones and tablet PCs

Acer like many other manufacturers is adopting the Android Honeycomb operating system in a big way. AT the MWC 2011 the Honeycomb based Iconia A100 and A500 were announced. Apart from these two tablets, a large display based smartphone, the Iconia Smart, was also announced. The third tablet, the W500 was released in Europe, however running the AMD Fusion and the Windows Phone 7 OS, also comes with a docking station. The A100 and A500 have the Tegra 2 processor and runs on the Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system.

The Iconia Smart has a 4.8-inch touch screen with a resolution of 1000 x 850 pixels. Using a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, the smartphone sports a front facing 2 mega pixel camera. It also sports an 8 mega pixel LED Flash camera at the back. The Iconia Smart runs the Android 2.3 OS and has features of HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 plus EDR for connectivity.

The Iconia A100 is an Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet, with a 7-inch capacitive multi-touch screen. It uses the NVIDIA GeForce GPU, offering 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth services. The Acer Iconia A100 uses the NVIDIA Tegra 2 CPU and includes the USB 2.0 port. A 2 megapixel front – facing camera and a 5 megapixel camera, on the back, are available on the tablet. It also has 8 GB storage space. It also consists of dual speakers.  The device will be available in Wi-Fi and 3G versions. Like the A500, the A100 is also scheduled to come to Verizon, 4G LTE network, slated to be released in April this year. The most unique feature of the A100 is the Acer’s Zones software. With the tapping of the touch screen, gaming, multimedia, reading, or social networking, brings up menu screens, with lists of apps that fit each category, such as an e-reader and magazine store in the Reading Zone, and themed wallpaper like a set of book shelves in the background. An attractive social jogger in the form of a graphical wheel allows access to your contacts’ social feeds.

The Iconia A500 tablet has Android 3.0 version with a larger screen in its 10.1 inch capacitive multi-touch screen display. It uses a customized Acer User interface, powered by Tegra 2 processor. It also consists of NVIDIA GeForce GPU, a 5 mega pixel rear facing camera and a front facing web cam, 1 GB RAM and 16 or 32 GB of storage space. The Iconia A500 will be made available through the Verizon 4G LTE network. It also consists of Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth.

The W500 however, in Europe, is also available with a docking station / keyboard, housing a single USB port and an Ethernet connection. This 10.1 inch multi-touch slate is powered by the AMD C-50 processor and has the AMD Radeon HD 6250 graphics processor. The operating system is Windows Phone 7.

PC Maker Acer® Announces New Iconia Smart Phone

Acer has made another attempt to enter the smartphone market with an the new Iconia released at the Mobile World Congress at Barcelona. It boasts of a 4.8 inch high resolution screen capable of supporting 1024X480 pixel screen resolution quite similar to that on many tablets, running on an Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. It is a slim phone with a 8 mega pixel camera with LED flash and also a front 2 mega pixel camera. It is powered by a powerful 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor powerful enough to make it standout among many tablets and smartphones. To complete with the multimedia experience it comes pre-packed with Dolby Surround Sound technology.

Also Acer’s famous UI interface the latest Acer UI 4.0 is part of the phone. It comes with the usual connectivity options like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and HSDPA with HDMI port connectivity for video out for the ultimate in media entertainment. It also supports Adobe 10.1 for an enriching web experience.

This model along with its previous releases is part of the low priced Touch line and the sleek Liquid series from Acer. According to the press release it’s a unique design with a stretched out slim and curved shape. It boasts of a revolutionary web experience without any resizing and adjustment, you only have to scroll up and down just like your PC. It comes with Android, offering multi touch, and optimized Java Script enabled features. It also offers ultra fast connectivity via its HDSPA option at speeds of 14.4 Mbps with Wi-Fi. It supports an aspect ratio of 21:9 which allows for a rich multimedia experience and an unmatched movie viewing experience. The powerful processor with its large screen makes it perfect for gaming. It has an inbuilt 6-axis motion sensing technology with gyroscope plus accelerometer inbuilt. According to the press release with its wide screen with a resolution of 1024×480, more media content can be displayed, also all apps and widgets get a bigger display frame like Contacts, Google Maps, Email, Instant Messaging conversations, etc.
Acer is marketing it with a tag saying 100% smartphone, 100% Tablet, for those who want it all. Acer’s new release comes amid a plethora of smartphones powered by Android that are going to enter the market. Acer has clearly a lot of competition to look forward to and also the existing players and handsets like the Apple iPhone to compete against. At such a large scale, quality and unmatched innovation is what sets apart a winner phone from just another smartphone. Acer clearly has what it takes and if its Smartphones receive the same response as its laptops and PCs, it could prove to be a serious competitor to today’s stalwarts.

A 7-inch Android™ tablet from Acer®

Acer is one of the leading companies which makes desktops, laptops and other computer-related devices. Now as most of the companies are entering into the tablet computer market, Acer has also decided to develop tablets. Acer will be releasing a with a 7-inch screen and also a 10-inch tablet starting this year. The main features of these tablets are the Sandy Bridge Processors (quad-core) by Intel, and the new Android Honeycomb 3.0 operating system.

The 7-inch Android tablet by Acer will have only one button to navigate. There will be one ‘Home’ button on the front face of the tablet. The new 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor will make it capable of running all these apps. The tablet has two cameras, the rear one is present with LED flash and one at front that will help in video calls. Tablet computers are getting very popular and it will be really interesting to see the real progress from Acer.
