Dell® to launch 10.1-inch tablet with Android™ 3.0 Honeycomb

At the Mobile World Congress, Dell revealed to its investors that it is about to launch a 10.1-inch tablet with Google’s Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS. The Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system has been built entirely for tablet computers. The first thing that is to be noticed about this operating system is the interface. In the Honeycomb interface, in place of hardware buttons, an on-screen navigation bar appears at the bottom of the screen. This display appears regardless of the orientation of the tablet. The home screen has also been improved.

The widgets have been redesigned to give it a appearance that gives it a prominent look. It gets easy to scroll through the inbox with the Gmail widget or go through the upcoming appointments with the help of the easy to use widgets. The user also gets the opportunity to develop personally customized widgets for any individual of the contact list.

The Dell tablet computer will be able to take complete advantage of the Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system by expanding into multiple panes that are shown side by side on your screen. In the Google OS, the users can read individual messages while viewing the on-screen inbox at the same time. The Google Talk platform will be used by Dell to introduce an integral solution for video chat. This will allow users to get connected to individuals in the contact list irrespective of whether they remain on line on their tablet or through their personal computer. The stock browser of Android gets upgraded with Honeycomb. Multiple tabs can be handled automatically with the help of this feature.

The 10-inch Dell tablet as revealed by the computer maker at the Mobile World Congress 2011 will have all the above features of Google’s Honeycomb in them. The Honeycomb upgrade will also see a new YouTube interface and Google’s e-book marketplace with a tablet optimized version. Bookmarks can be accessed from the home screen itself with the help of the Honeycomb browser widget.

How Dell will deal with the effect of Honeycomb’s interface on its battery life is still to be seen. Motorola XOOM may prove a tough competition for the Dell Honeycomb tablet as it too has incorporated Google’s OS.

HTC® Flyer review

HTC, the Taiwan-based electronics company, is in the news again. After their many firsts like the world’s first touch screen smartphone in 2000, the first Android-based smartphone, and a wide range of smartphones from low cost units to high tech units, HTC has announced and released details of their first tablet, that is, the HTC Flyer. At the Mobile World Congress, HTC was given the device manufacturer of the year award.

HTC has always been a fast innovator and improviser, introducing newer and newer products at every stage of their growth, launched their tablet, the cloud computing and gaming-centric HTC Flyer. It once again brings the Stylus to the fore, after almost all players moving from Stylus to touch screen devices over the past 2 to 3 years. Announced as a fast, portable, lightweight tablet, the HTC Flyer takes gaming to a new level with their HTC Sense user interface. The 3D perspective brings the future of tablets to an all time high. The live video call feature adds pep to the product.

The Stylus, the magical pen, allows you to write, paint, draw and even retouch pictures. The HTC Watch in the HTC Flyer brings on-demand viewing, with superb SRS virtual surround sound on the 7-inch 3D screen. The high fidelity sound with the SRS WOW HD is delivered over dual speakers for a rich audio experience. The 720p HD camcorder app brings about a new experience with the unique 7-inch viewfinder allowing classy 5 MP photographs.

The e-book feature and high speed web access on the go make the HTC Flyer, the perfect companion. The SnapBooth feature with the magic pen allow you to make photographs and moments more memorable, where you can change lenses or add effects and even re-touch the photo, name it and add slogans, turning it even into a birthday card on the go.

When it comes to work applications, you have it all, be it e-mails or appointments or syncing the appointment to an e-mail account, or color coded, sorted, e-mails in your inbox, coded by importance or groups or content, the HTC Flyer brings value for money. The Evernote app for text notes or pictures or voice recording with the feature of syncing to secure online server, makes the HTC Flyer your most desired personal organizer. Wireless connectivity allows you to view and edit your office documents to be directly printed via Wi-Fi to a nearby printer in range.

The unique HTC Flyer with the Android 2.4 hybrid is up against the Android 3.0 based Motorola XOOM, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, the ever news breaking iPad and a range of other Android based tablets.

Windows® Phone 7 or Google Android®?

If one is referring Gingerbread, it is believed that it is in fact Android 2.3 and not the 3.0 as rumoured previously. It is not actually known whether the specific date on which the Gingerbread operating system may be released, however, it is heard that it is going to be before the year end, and it will be in early part of the year 2011.

So far as Droid X is concerned whether it will be updated, it is presumed that there is a high possibility of it being so; however, one will have to wait for more time prior to Motorola comes around for releasing an updated version which is compatible with software of its own. It will not be wise to assume that there will be hardware update for the Droid X soon. If one is prepared to drop one’s Storm, it will not be right to assume that there is difficulty in getting the Droid X presently, particularly because the prices are beginning to drop.

Will a Windows Phone 7 handset be much user friendly as compared to Android? Windows Phone 7 is a type of platform which is new, but one will be best served with the Wilndows Phone 7 handset in comparison to other kind of two choices. The nice entry level handset is Motorola Bravo with Android 2.1, and Sony Xperia X10 will take longer time for upgrading.

One should bear in mind that Windows Phone 7 is somewhat new, therefore, the online support will not be strong as Android. However, Microsoft targets the timely updating of its software.

Motorola® Will Upgrade Unlocked XOOM tablets to 4G

The tablet market is at its peak with every company coming up with their tablet computers and providing new features. Motorola is one such company which has made its tablet and named it as Motorola XOOM. Motorola is a multinational telecommunication company which manufactured wireless handsets, mobile phones, broadband service products like the set top box, digital video recorders etc. The latest launch of Motorola is a tablet computer named Motorola XOOM. It is an Android based tablet which uses Android 3.0 or the Honeycomb version. This was released just last month in the year 2011. Along with Motorola XOOM, the other products launched were Motorola Atrix, the Motorola Droid Bionic, and the Motorola Cliq 2.

The Motorola Xoom has Android 3.0 as its operating system, but Motorola wants to upgrade it to a 4G LTE. This provision will also be made on the tablets which are unlocked. The Motorola 3G XOOM is not eligible for upgrading and hence the change. Motorola has said that the Motorola tablets which are on the Verizon network will be eligible for this upgradation. It’s important for Motorola to go in for this upgradation because 3G doesn’t allow many new features which the 4G does. To sustain in this type of competitive market it’s important to make some upgradations or else the product won’t do well. In this age there is no limit for the tablets and with every company jumping into the task of making tablets the competition doesn’t seem to reduce in any way. So Motorola has thought of a nice way to sustain its position in the market.

Motorola XOOM will have to be given to authorized centers in order to install 4 required for up the system. The software will be reinstalled and the device will be relocked and then only can the XOOM receive the upgrade. Devices which do not meet the criteria required for the upgradation will not be able to install the software to run the 4G modem. In cases like this the 4G modem will be installed and the feature will run. It is also a probability that the XOOM will be disqualified from the official upgradation and will reject the running of the 4G LTE network of Verizon since the system is 3G rooted

The upgradation to 4G will be made within 90 days after the Motorola XOOM 3G has been launched, which will be somewhere around the 26th of May. Users who are interested in getting the upgraded version will have to send it back and get the 4G installed which will take around six days.
