Simple fixes for your digital photos

Digital photo is representation of image in zeros and ones. It is a series of zeros and ones as this is the only language by digital devices and is called as Binary Language or Binary representation of information or data. Every pixel or dot on the picture or the image has its own binary representation which carries the color information, its location on the image, its brightness, its contrast and much more. This is why larger the picture greater is its size. Original picture has just one format which is called as the Bitmap (BMP) but images stored in this format are large in size so there are several universally known compression techniques such as JPEG, TIF, GIF & PNG. These compression techniques can be understood by all the browsers and almost all the image editing applications. The digital cameras these days click the photograph and save it in their memory in any these compressed formats. These pictures can then be transferred to the computer for viewing and can further be printed as well. After transferring the pictures to the computer you can make changes to its which can enhance the picture. For example you can brighten it more if it seems to dark and vice versa. In this post I will discuss some of the changes and modifications which you can do to these photographs to enrich the experience.

Get the correct application: All the digital cameras come with their own image editing software, but these free applications might lack in features. So if you want to give an extra touch then you need to go and purchase some advanced image editing software like Adobe Photoshop. Having a decent photo editing software is the prerequisite to image editing.

Resize the image: As mentioned earlier, larger the picture, larger would be the space it needs in the memory. Clicking picture at high resolution is a good idea because this way you will not miss the minute details, but to keep it that ways always is not a good idea because if the file size is too large then you cannot post it on the internet and neither can you mail it to someone. Always lower the dimensions of the photograph so that it suits your display size and so that you can share it with others. This can easily be done in Photoshop by opening the image and then resizing it from the relevant tools.

Brightness & Contrast: These are the two values which can make a photo to be good or bad. If clicked image looks darker, or extra bright then you can always use the Photoshop’s Brightness & Contrast level tool to set it to appropriate and soothing level.

Remove the Red Eye: It happens that due to inappropriate lighting and background the eye balls appear to be red in color. This can be taken care by some advanced cameras themselves but if not then you can remove this red eye using Photoshop.

Crop your image: As the title says you actually can crop the desired subject from a large image and get rid of the unwanted people or signs which are there in the original image. There are several cropping tools which can help you crop the required part of the image in various shapes and sizes. Try them, you will find them good and purposeful.

Browse the options: Take some sample image and try all the options which you have in your image editing software so that you get apt and can work easily on the same. You will find many more options which might interest you.

Top tips for organizing your digital photo collection

Days are gone when we used to use the cameras with image roles in it. With these roles one could only click a fixed number of pictures and then get them developed at a photo studio and then organize in some album. Now such cameras are becoming history and more and more people are switching to Digital cameras. Digital camera give us the liberty to click as many images as we want, it allows us to manage the sharpness, brightness, and contrast while clicking the picture, it helps us in taking the picture straight to our computer so that the softcopy can be shared with others without getting it scanned by a scanner. Digital Camera has given us a whole new dimension of personal or professional photography, but since we can click numerous pictures without bothering of the development charges, we end up in a mess of too many images. You might open your Pictures folder and would see hundreds of photographs and would definitely want a way to organize them and keep them in separate albums.

In this post I will discuss some tips how you can organize Digital Photos on your computer.

Use different folders – Pictures of different occasions should be kept in different folders/albums so that it is always easy for you to find the relevant pictures whenever required. If you put the pictures in the same folder then there would be many images in the same folder and you might not be able to find the required picture instantly.

Use naming conventions – Try renaming all the files from same date or occasion in similar way. Like Birthday1. Birthday2, and so on so that you always view the files in sequence and should be able to search them quickly. Bulk renaming can be easily done in windows by opening the folder where pictures are located and selecting all the pictures which you want to rename. After selecting them right click on the first file and give it a name of your choice and press enter. You will find that all files will get renamed by that name with a number series post-fixed in the file name.

Try deleting duplicate images – People often take multiple shots to get the best out of it but then do not delete the other shots and keep all of them stored on their computers. Always make sure that you only keep the best shot on your computer and delete the others. This will help you have less number of good shots and will also not consume high volume of disk space on your hard drive.

Label your Photos – Whenever you attach the digital camera the Digital Image Suit comes up automatically. This suit gives you various options to Label the pictures, add captions, and add keywords to them. To know what these are just open folders in which you have some images and then select any image. At the bottom in the explorer window you will find the information like, image size, dimensions, tags, keywords etc about that photo. This Meta information can also be used for searching for any image and to keep them separate from each other.

Though there can be many depending upon your working style, but these were some basic tips to help you in organizing the digital photographs so that you can visit your memories in the best possible manner.
