Flash 10.1 for Android Final Version Released on the Wild

Adobe Flash Player 10.1 brings in support for a wide range of devices including smart phones running under Android 2.2—dubbed as Froyo. Also in the list of supported devices are netbooks and other Internet capable gadgets. Clearly, iPhone and iPad support in the future seems bleak as Steve Jobs has publicly refused to integrate Adobe player to its iOS for its known security holes.

After months of beta testing, Flash 10.1 final version was  released to the public.  Originally it was scheduled for release during the first half of the year; Adobe changed the release to the second half of the year.   Well, it seems Adobe is true to its words. Just a few weeks into the second half of the year, Android 2.2 users can now avail the product through the Android Marketplace.

The public release of Flash 10.1 beta version was deemed to be one of the topmost downloaded applications in the Android Marketplace.

Mobility Personified

Adobe’s new flash player is designed specifically to cater to the mobility needs of its users. Smartphones being limited to lower CPU computing powers, Adobe had to develop the player form the “ground up”.

Features

Users are treated to an application which fully optimizes the native capabilities of their devices. The key feature that seems to leap from the canvass is the player’s support for GPU acceleration. These make the Flash player experience completely compatible with mobile devices.

The GPU acceleration support redefines how the Flash player uses your resources especially those of your mobile devices. Streaming media using your mobile devices can gobble up most of your device’s limited resources. But with GPU support in the new Flash player 10.1, you can stream media while freeing up your CPU for a more enhanced multi-tasking experience. Battery life has also been a big issue when it comes to utilizing Flash player. The GPU acceleration support makes it possible to save on your precious battery stamina while on the go.

Video playback gets way better with the new release. Flash 10.1 gets support for peer-assisted video streaming or multicasting, HTTP support for live video streaming, and support for hardware-accelerated H.264 video playback. Another apparent improvement in video buffering has also been put in place allowing you to pause, rewind and fast-forward streaming video much like in any DVR player. That is, if your provider already supports this pretty neat feature.

Some Froyo users observed that Flash 10.1 does not let its player work with their sound profile settings. Although in silent mode, Flash player will still play sounds as is. Adobe Systems clears this up by saying that this is an Android problem and not the Flash Player’s fault.

Security-wise, the new version of Flash player now works with your browser settings. That is, to say, that your Flash player will not keep on caching when you enter in the private browsing mode.

Good news to multi-touch device users, Flash Player also comes with multi-touch support. The new accelerometer support also allows users to view their flash content in portrait and landscape mode. With the Smart Zooming feature users can scale their playback to full screen.

Flash Player 10.1 is available to those who will upgrade to Android 2.2, dubbed as Froyo. It also supports various platforms such as BlackBerry, Webs, future versions of Windows Phone, Limo, Me ego and Symbian OS. Alas, no support for Apple’s iOS; but not for the lack of trying, though. Steve Jobs is obstinate when it comes to Flash support in Apple products.

Devices that are supported include Dell Streak, Google Nexus One, HTC Evo, HTC Desire, HTC Incredible, DROID by Motorola, Motorola Milestone, Samsung Galaxy S and others.

For Adobe Sytems, this has been a major upgrade in terms of supporting multi platforms.

For those who can’t live without their flash content, this is definitely an enhancement to their mobile experience.

Adobe Becomes Part of Apple/Google War

Google, Verizon and Motorola have gone up to the stage on the 23rd of June for announcing next generation of the Droid Smartphone which would be having the hanger on Adobe in tow. The Droid X is also expected to be seen really soon. It has a touch screen which is like the 4G and has a display of 4.3 inches. The camcorder of this is also very powerful and has high definition. The Droid 2 is also expected which is a sequel to the greatly popular original featuring the QWERTY keyboard which slides out. On Thursday it was the turn of Apple when the iPhone 4 hit the stores and the mailboxes throughout the U.S. and four of the other countries.

Not like the Copa Mundial, this cup would not be decided by the mid of July instead the war of the Smartphone have continued for another one or two years, by the time when the conception of the iPhone would have gone completely out of the window. Still, the decision of Google, Verizon and Moto for launching the next Droid on the day which was just before iPhone 4 came to the streets for talking to the stakes in the play for everyone at the table.

Adobe – leading the market

The player in the market is considered to be Adobe. Neither Apple, Google, AT&T nor Verizon is at any place in the market. The mobility division of Motorola was actually given a second chance by the rise of the Android mobile operating system of Google. In spite of failing to turn the triumph of the iconic RAZR into any sustainable strategy which could stay for the long term basis, is now back into the business behind the stable of the Droid. Actually, the plans have been announced recently by Motorola for spinning the handset division off in the cash infused, debt free, stand alone company which is called the Motorola Mobility by the start of the coming year.

Talking about Adobe – Shantanu Narayen, who is the CEO, would be joining the execs from Motorola, Google, and Verizon at the launch of the Droid on the 23rd of June. But usually one would think that Adobe is a software company and what it has to do with the game of the Smartphone. The answer to this question is quite simple and it would move down to the war of Flash and Apple-Google. The difficult answer hinges on the factors as wide ranging as the developer agreements, emerging standards of the web, Google TV and also the war of the Apple and Google.

Apple VS Google

Apple and Google both are moving over the mobile phones as well as the mobile advertising markets and the battle is probably going to extend soon to the sales of the online music and the web enhanced TV also. It is being thought that Adobe is the player or the pawn? Over the previous few months Apple has proclaimed that Flash is a dead technology which has already been replaced by the emerging standards of HTML 5.

Ultra slim Android based Laptop Released by Toshiba

Android OS has been a new entry in the world of OS and is expected to do great business around the world. An increasing number of manufacturers are taking up the OS for their smartphones or even laptops now. A recent news rose from the world of Toshiba. The laptop is an excellent development that is casting the Dual Core ARM processor as well as Android 2.1 to bring an excellent machine to you.

There was news in the beginning that the laptop model named AC-100 would be running on Linux and the processor would come from the U.K based manufacturer ARM. The laptop was said to use mobile technologies instead of the typical laptop based technology. It was termed as a smart book.

The reality

The reality of AC-100 is just amazing. You can easily get this machine running the perfect way with the design being contemporary and different from all other laptops that are in the range. The unique design would certainly get you enough experience to enjoy. The machine is powered by the Nvidia Tegra 250 combined with Android 2.1 as being the Operating system. The processor is from a line of cutting edge processors that is being used in the world of smartphones and is said to rise up to the speed of 1GHz. The processors that have been used up before this were all single core processors while the latest development that would be integrated with Toshiba is a Dual core version.

The use of Android is justified in the world today for its functionality for some of the very exotic and exhilarating smartphone experiences have been brought to you by Android. This includes Motorola’s Droid and Nexus One by HTC. The whole laptop is like a smartphone more than a laptop because of the integration of the use of the mobile broadband being used in the development. The machine is said to take less than 1 second waking up from the standby mode. This feature makes this machine “always on” like a mobile phone.

Technical Features

The laptop is uses a 1 GHz Dual core ARM processor with a memory of 512 MB DDR2. It has a built in storage space of around 32 GB that is being provided by the solid state drive. The battery life is also remarkable that gives you a power back up of around 8 years. The laptop is having a display of 10.1”. The device is also been integrated with Bluetooth 2.1 and WLAN (802.11 b/g/n) as well as mobile broadband that gives it an edge over many other machines of the same caliber. The device has one USB 2.0 port, one Mini USB and one SD, MMC port. You even have the HDMI connectivity port as well.

The laptop also has a 1.3 megapixel webcam that has an integrated microphone. The machine is expected to strike the Japanese market somewhere in the third quarter this year with a launching price of less than $500. The weight to this laptop is another factor to consider. The ultra slim laptop is ultra light as well with a weight of 870g.

Exclusive performance of little devices in the perspective of GPU

The GPU bench marks produce different results with slides used in the different high end phones. One such slide which is even faster than the slides used in Droid, EVO, Incredible and Android 2.2 installed Nexus is the Adreno GPU. This is kind of feature that makes the slide fast. This particular slide is aimed towards the market of the smart phones. But it is not very compatible with the high end ones. Due to its main focus is on the Smartphone market it uses the 600 MHz Qualcomm MSM7227. But a very little information can be obtained from the official website of the Qualcomm except that the GPU uses the 3D graphics which are of hardware accelerated type.

The system Information Tool

According to the system information tool it has been learnt that Adreno GPU is being used in this particular slide. The Adreno GPU is also used in the 1 GHz Snapdragon which has relatively much faster speed. Previously it was known that the Droid possesses the super fast GUP having a speed of 110 MHz PowerVR SGX 530. But with the emergence of the Adreno GPU, it became even faster than the Nexus.

Speed of the slide

It is known that the slides normally use the Adreno GPU. Even the Snapdragon phones use the same technology.  Now if this is the fact then the question is, in what mechanism the particular slide acts more rapidly than the others? Moreover, it is to be noticed that with the CPU speed 600MHz and the firmware still of Android 2.1 version how the slide outperformed the others. In case of many taxing benchmarks the slide surprisingly scored 2x. This is quite similar to the NeneMark1 and the GLBenchmark.

Reasons behind the above phenomena

Till now very little has been discovered regarding the speed of the slide. One explanation in this respect might be that the GPU of the slide should be first as compared with that of the other various high end phones. Generally it is known that the slide GPU is the last if you compare it with the high tech phones. However, researches are going on over this topic to find out some strong and reliable explanation in this matter.

The lower resolution factor

The factor of lower resolution is quite satisfactory in this case. Since the slide runs the resolution of HVGA vs WVGA, lesser pixels are pushed by the benchmarks. Apart from this cause there may be some other reasons those are liable for such great results.

Results of myTouch 3G Slide

Considering the GLBenchmark result for the slide we have HD PRO 1.1 – 9.5 fps and HD ES 1.1 – 59.0 fps. For the NenaMark1 the result is 18.1 fps and lastly for the NeoCore the result is 31.2 fps.

There are mixed responses on the myTouch 3G Slide. According to some this slide does not provide sufficient speedy and efficient performance. On the other hand some believe that the GPU of this device is truly fast.
