Mac® App Store crosses 10k apps milestone

The app market for Apple’s Mac named Mac App Store has crossed the milestone of 10,000 apps, say various reports making round on the Internet world. This feat has been achieved by the app store within a time period of 15 months. The Mac App Store was launched on 6 January, 2011 with just 1,000 apps. Apple has not confirmed the report yet.

The 10,000 plus apps include both paid and free-to-download apps. The Mac App Store is the only authorized way of getting applications and programs if one owns a MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, or iMac.

The Mac App Store was launched with an objective of making software programs, like Apple’s iMovie downloadable through a desktop retail location rather than selling software DVDs. The Store also allows Mac users to buy individual pieces of software, when they would otherwise have to buy a DVD bundle for only one program. Mac users had to upgrade to Snow Leopard to access the Mac App Store and the update to OS X Lion could be done via the Mac App Store.

According to reports, there have been 100 million downloads from the online app store for Mac. However, there is still some distance to cover if you compare it with the iOS App Store, which contains more than 600,000 apps.

A New Twist in Flashback Mac® Malware Story

The deadly Flashback malware recently shook up the entire world by claiming more than 600,000 Macs worldwide. Although the malware is now somewhat in control, but it was a real shocker for all those Mac users who used to boast about the impermeability of their PCs.

But the new findings made by the antivirus firm Sophos have given a twist to the whole story. According to Sophos, a Mac computer is more likely to be infected by a malware that has the capability to affect a Windows computer too.

Sophos analyzed the data of about 100,000 Mac computers installed with its antivirus software. The firm found that out of five, one Mac was infected with a Windows malware, whereas the ratio of finding Mac malware was one to 36.

So, if you are a Windows user and are fearlessly transferring data from any Mac computer then you may be putting yourself in great trouble.

Flashback Trojan Brings Down 600,000 Mac® PCs Worldwide

If you own a Mac and still believe that your device is absolutely safe from cyber infections then it’s time to wake up. It’s also time to get active and take preventive measures if you want to save your Mac computer.

According to a security firm, Dr. Web, a deadly malware named Flashback Trojan has affected more than 600,000 Mac computers worldwide. Out of these 600,000 Mac computers, more than 50 percent (around 303,449) are owned by U.S. customers. Canada is the second worst hit location with approximately 106,379 infected Mac computers. The U.K. and Australia have claimed the third and fourth spots with around 72,000 and 32,000 cases, respectively.

The Flashback Trojan makes use of Java vulnerability and web browsers to infect your Mac. It is capable of stealing your personal information. This incident is a sort of warning for all those Mac users who do not prefer any security measures while surfing the Internet.
