Xbox 360 sales increase in Japan

Home video game console Microsoft Xbox 360, released in November 2005, last autumn. According to  a published data  on the official Microsoft blog the Xbox 360 recorded  most successful  sales in the year 2010 in its entire five-year history .According to the NPD Group, in December 2010, Microsoft Corporation has sold 1.9 million Xbox 360 units that was the best indicator in the history of the game console.  You will be amazed to know that Xbox 360 sales has once broken all the records and for a period of  60 days it  has touched  8 million sales record.

The latest Japan retail figures Video game console Microsoft Xbox 360 sales rank shows it at No. 8 in Japan. On Friday a Japan based company ,Media Create Co. has reported that the Microsoft sold 3,859 units of Xbox 360 between Jan. 3rd to   Jan. 9th and ranked as to No. 8 in overall sales.

Moreover, there is an increase in sales the Xbox 360 by 42 percent compared with 2009, which made the gaming console a leader in the industry. We  hereby take privilege to inform you  that consumers spent in  year 2010 on the Xbox 360 as much as $ 6.2 billion, that is more than on any other console, and the three most popular games for it as of December included Call of Duty: Black Ops, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood and Kinect Sports.

Xbox 360 is also ranked as Best-selling console in the U.S. in December 2010.Gamers bought 2.5 million units. Another gaming system which was liked on second rank was Nintendo – Wii – the leader among home consoles, with the result of 2.3 million units. Sales of consoles by  Sony – PS3 and PSP – not known.

Total sales of the gaming industry in December 2010 are 5.06 billion dollars, up 9% and the worst performance of sales was in the year 2009.  The Sales of consoles was decreased by 16%, to 1.84 billion dollars, and games – by 5% to 2.53 billion. At the same time, demand for accessories has grown by 10%, to 853.2 million. The reason is called the popularity of the sensor for the Xbox 360 – Kinect.

On the other hand, in the year 2011 the website Gamrfeed.vgcharts .com has given a sales analysis of all the available game consoles. On January 8th the site has given the sales analysis of first week of New Year season in which Microsoft Xbox 360 sales are recorded lowered and the reason behind slips in sale is that the holiday season is over now and the sales of Microsoft Xbox 360 is recorded down by 45 percent. The website has informed in worldwide hardware sales Microsoft Xbox 360 is losing 248,000

(-45%) with sales of 299,000.  In comparison to this the PSP sales are also down by 153,000 (-46%) with sales of 178,000 units only.

Navigation of Xbox Live Arcade to Be Made Easier

The competition between Microsoft’s Xbox and Sony’s PlayStation has been quite fierce ever since Microsoft decided to launch its own video game console to combat the ever growing popularity of the PlayStation. The launch of the Xbox in 2001 has definitely seen Sony losing its monopoly over the console gaming segment. But nearly a decade later, it still hard to say who has the edge over the other because both of them have garnered quite a reputation and the rivalry has resulted in bonuses for the customers, in terms of enhanced graphics, choice of titles available, etc. So to try and gain a firm grip over the console gaming world, Microsoft launched the Xbox Live and in particular Xbox Live Arcade. But with the growing number of games available, users have complained about how tedious it can be to browse through the online store. Microsoft is going to change all that by launching Destination Arcade.


Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA) is a video game basically available in a section of the Xbox Live Marketplace, Microsoft’s digital distribution network for Xbox 360. Currently, it is integrated into the latest Xbox models, the Xbox 360. One has to buy Xbox Live Arcade titles and play them on Xbox Live Arcade. The games available on this service are typically the arcade games that were popular in the 80s and 90s, but with advanced graphics; and also arcade titles that have been recently developed. The current size of these games can be anywhere up to 2 GB. Games older than 6 months would become eligible for deletion from the service if they had a Metacritic (an entertainment review site) score below 65 and a conversion rate below 6%.


While it is easy to find new titles, browsing through the XBLA library to find something to play is quite cumbersome, and older content is hardly featured. Microsoft is trying to rectify that with the Destination Arcade visual browser. Destination Arcade will let you to search new games. A prominent feature is the ability to sort by price, community rating, and many more options you can chose as per your choice.  Under the new design menus are more aesthetically pleasing and appear to be more “Kinetic” browsing friendly.

Xbox Live programming director Major Nelson stated that the Destination arcade app would be “easy-to-use visual browser.” It will also feature a news feed for users to keep track of the Arcade’s latest releases.

Xbox Live’s Larry Hryb wrote on his official blog, “With a growing library of over 250 Arcade games, Destination Arcade will allow you to discover new games and content you enjoy.”

However, there is a piece of news from Microsoft that may disappoint users looking forward to the release – Destination Arcade will only be available temporarily and will disappear once Summer of Arcade ends on August 18.

Summer of Arcade is Microsoft’s annual offering of arcade game titles to Xbox users for the duration of the summer. The games are typically released every Wednesday.

Microsoft has now made this into a sweep stakes contest where in any adult in the United States of America can win one such similar road trip. They have to just become a fan of the Microsoft KIN page on the Facebook. Then Microsoft will randomly choose a winner and this lucky youngster will win a fully sponsored road trip all over the country to meet all their friends on their network. The journey is essentially an extended social media marketing campaign for Microsoft and KIN, the sweepstakes is essentially a casting call for the next face of the brand.

While everyone has damned the campaign saying its not unique and such media promotion road trips have been done in the past too. Graham Smith and Josh Baron made a documentary about a Facebook road trip. But Microsoft replied toughly saying that no mobile company or software company has ever done such campaign and that too picking up random fans from social networking sites.

This campaign is also a take on young people who are forgetting that friends though being far away are also true friends. They wanted to explain this to young people, and so created this campaign. It has given a new meaning to the concept of online friendship, regard less of the social networking categorization.

It is a very interesting platform for the social networking sites also, as they get into the real-time life of youngsters. Thanks to Microsoft for coming up with such an innovative campaign, as now some random people can meet their friends all over the country.
