How to Use your PC to your best advantage for work from home

Many organizations have begun to allow as well as encourage telecommuting by letting their employees work from home. If your company offers this option, you can use your mobile PC to work in the comfort of your home or any other location.

There are certain tips that need to be followed along with the tools to be used for this purpose, to ensure that there’s no hindrance in keeping your productivity as high as it would be in your office.

The necessary tools

To telecommunicate effectively, the following tools would be required.

Internet access: Having an Internet access is most important as without it, whatever work you do would be useless. Most people who prefer to work from home have this facility and have an Internet access either through a Cable Internet, DSL or Satellite Internet. A DSL uses a special modem and ordinary telephone lines for providing an Internet Connection however it does not interfere with the telephone use. Cable Internet on the other hand provides Internet through the use of your local cable TV line and satellite Internet is used in scenarios where a DSL or cable isn’t available in an area. However a satellite Internet service is expensive compared to both of the other alternatives.

Computer: A computer can take the form of either a desktop computer or a mobile PC like a laptop. For the purpose of working from home, you may need to add some additional software for accessing the company’s information and be aware of the security encryptions and passwords.

A private space: It is essential to locate your computer in a place where there are no distractions that interfere in your work. An efficient, safe and healthy location with easy access to not only your computer but also other means of communication like a phone line and reference materials is required.

Communication tools: While telecommunicating, make sure that you have the means to contact your peers, superiors and subordinates for sharing information, taking and giving orders at all times. Your e-mail and phone number must be given to all those people whom you have to deal with regularly. An IM or Instant Messaging service, similar to Yahoo Chat can also be used to be in touch with important updates.

Few tips for staying focused

Apart from limiting distractions that can affect your work, try to start working at the same time as you would at your workplace. The number of work hours should be at least the same, to ensure maximum productivity. Also, the work that needs to be done should be appropriately planned, while deciding whether it would be better suited to work from home or otherwise. You should also take small breaks to keep your mind fresh by going for a lunch break or a walk outside.

Despite the advantages of working from home, it is not for everyone. However, if you are a highly motivated individual who can practice self-discipline under all circumstances, you can reap the rewards of working effectively from home or any other place.

AMD relieved with the Q2 Financials- Credit goes to Mobile PC

AMD has recently reported the financial report for the Q2 year 2010 showing a remarkable revenue growth and comparatively much lower loss compared to the same time period last year. The credit  has been set to the robust mobile PC chip sales which did make up for the OEM uptake of its server processors in the quarter.

Statistical Figures:

The company is still expecting to get quality response from the business in the third quarter as well as it is growing its shares in the portable PC market. The mobile device business is on a hike these days and that is the probable reason to AMD earning revenue of $1.65 billion in the second quarter of 2010 compared to the $1.2 billion revenue of AMD in the 2nd quarter in 2009. The current figure shows 40% increment.

In addition to that, the company has encountered a loss of $43 million against its share value that is 6% in proportion while the loss was around $330 million or 43% proportionally an year back. The company is said to be comfortable with the figures that it showed this year compared to the last one.

In 2009, AMD reported around 31% growth in the revenue of the second quarter in the microprocessor and chipset sales that was said to be an all time record of the company. The microprocessor and chipset business did not come up that strong this year and the slow OEM uptake of its processor caused them the loss that they have encountered. The company still has plans to change the vendors for the new Opteron 6000 series of 12 core processors that are code named as Magny-Cours.

The second quarter this year shed all the selling prices, unit sales and revenues in the server business process and all the credit goes to the slow OEM adoption. Intel made the best out of this situation and gained a considerable market in the field over AMD.

Future plans and associations:

AMD did excellent business in the PC arena instead through the second quarter. The most important and the distinct products were the notebook PC ones. The company was expecting to gain an increase of 10-15 % during the second quarter this year compared to the previous one while it witnessed around 15-20% gain that is certainly a great achievement. The company has further plans to expand the share it holds in notebook PC chip business.

The lately launched Fusion Accelerated Processing Units are another of the marvelous product that AMD is relying upon. This technology combines a microprocessor and a graphic processor into a single unit of silicon and will come up as a remarkable achievement in the field of mobile PC computing by the end of this year as reported by AMD officials. There two versions of Fusion APU are code-named as “Ontario” and “Llano” that are based on 40-nanometer and 32-nanometer technologies respectively.

AMD does not target to use this technology into the tablet PC as they consider that tablet PC sales will make no considerable difference to the netbooks and notebooks running in the market. They consider tablet PC to be a market expansion only.
