NETGEAR® Announced New Routers and Genie App at CES 2011

NETGEAR is a manufacturer of computer hardware devices and networking equipment. The main products manufactured by NETGEAR are hubs, routers, and DSL/cable gateways, switches, wireless access points, and storage devices. The main focus of company is to provide the best networking equipment. NETGEAR launched a new line-up of routers at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2011).

A router is a device which is used for connecting two or more computers with one another or to a network. It comes in two categories: wired and wireless. NETGEAR is the world’s leading router manufacturer. They unveiled a new series of routers at CES 2011. This new series has three new routers. These are the new Gigabit and ADSL routers with wireless technology. These routers are mainly designed for home networking applications. These NETGEAR routers have Push 2TV HD technology. By using this, a user can project a laptop’s screen and also sound in full HD, 1080p format without messing up with wires.

The WNDR3800 is a dual band Gigabit wireless router which is titled as an Ultimate Networking Machine by NETGEAR. This wireless router is made to give a high performance HD video and gaming experience. This WNDR3800 router also has Clear Channel Selector features which are in-built. The function of this system is to avoid busy Wi-Fi channel sound, thus the sound disturbance in the router is decreased and the audio performance of the router is increased. One new feature is introduced in it which is a Ready Share Remote. Ready Share Remote feature allows gaining access to data with USB HDD remotely. It also provides wireless connectivity to a printer which is attached to a router using USB port. DGND3700 is an ADSL router which is also a wireless router. This router has built in Dual-Band ADSL modem which is compatible with the ISP. Both of these routers have DLNA compatibility and many other advanced capabilities. This router is also equipped with Broadband Usage meter the so user can set the limit of usage and when it exceeds beyond the limit, there is a notification.

NETGEAR also announced an application at CES 2011, which is named as NETGEAR Genie. This application is a home networking application and is available without any charges. The use of NETGEAR Genie is to monitor and to solve the problems which occur with a wireless home network. It also helps to resolve the wireless connection issues. NETGEAR Genie software has a user friendly dashboard which shows the common problems related to a wireless network connection and also shows the way of solving them. It consists of an assistance device which assists in setting up the Wi-Fi connections for administrator and for the guests.

Now Enjoy Wireless TV and Entertainment: Netgear

Netgear is celebrating its 15th birthday and what can be the other time to launch some of the newest concept based products in the market. Netgear launched a vast range of products for home use in the CES meet this month. All these products will be serving to connect the home entertainment devices wirelessly with the internet. Devices like Internet enabled television sets and other players require huge amount of data transmission and the normal wireless routers available these days are not able to manage such high data flow and results in poor video display quality. Netgear stated that Internet TV is the technology of the future and nobody other than Netgear thought about making it better. With these new devices users would be able to connect their televisions and music players wirelessly. Wireless connections were available earlier as well but the throughput of currently available routers was not satisfactory. With the launch of these new wireless routers, media streaming will be as smooth as possible without clumsy Ethernet wires. Netgear has developed these routers keeping in mind that most of the TVs available these days are internet capable but only through LAN cable and not wirelessly. So Netgear has also developed wireless to wire convertors which will help the Television communicate with the wireless router.

The most appreciated product launched by Netgear at CES this year is the 3D HD Wireless Home Theatre Networking Kit. With this kit people can connect up to 4 televisions to the same wireless router and will communicate with the help of a wireless receiver connected to the TV sets. This will allow wireless streaming to happen throughout the home and now people would not need to place their Televisions sets as per the availability of Ethernet ports in their houses. Now TVs can be placed anywhere because this time they will connect wirelessly. Another device launched by Netgear in the same category is the Neo TV 550 Ultimate High Definition Media Player. This is just a media playing device which is capable of playing media at high resolution. This device has no storage functionality and doesn’t connect with any other device. Now you would be wondering from where it is going to get the media for playing. This device is again a wireless device and it will scrawl the Wi-Fi network to which it will connect and will list the media available on the shares of computers or laptops connected to the same wireless network. Media playing will be real time and no storage will be done on the device. If you want to have a separate store for all of your media like music and video then you can go for another device from Netgear called as Ready HAS Ultra 2 Home Server. This server will again pull the media content from the devices connected on the network and will keep a copy as a backup. This copy can then be played on the HD Media player or back on PCs or other smart devices capable of media playing.

How to Set up a Secured Wireless Network on Netgear

Through Networking we can not only connect ourselves to the world of “Internet” but also we will have the facility of LAN, WAN and MAN. The most widely used means of connection nowadays is the “Wireless” means. Nowadays, router’s manufacturers give prime importance to the “Wireless” source. Netgear, the gems of “Wireless Networking Hardware” are topping the charts. Wireless Network requires a wireless router, a high speed modem, a computer (high configuration enabled) and subscription to an ISP (Internet Service Provider). Netgear allows it’s user to change the wireless router’s security settings in order to shield your online service and protect the data transmitted.

How can you secure your Netgear Wireless Network?

Step one

Get your router installed. To connect your Netgear wireless router to the DSL modem, use an Ethernet cable. Another Ethernet cable is required to connect the router to your computer. Ensure that all of the devices above mentioned are switched off when you connect them. Once, connection is fixed. Turn on your DSL modem followed by the router and then your computer. Remember to switch on the devices in order and allow an ample two minutes for the devices to recognize one another.

Step two

To log in to the router, open your web browser and type router’s address to upload router’s settings. You can find your router’s address on the setup CD or the user guide that came with your router. Mostly Netgear’s router holds the address of this type “”, “” or “”. Once you type in those IP addresses press the “Enter” key of your keyboard.

Step three

To access your router’s settings you will be required to enter the username and password. By default, the password is “password” while the username is “username”. Keep in mind the default username and password must be in lowercase because the textboxes are case-sensitive.

Step four

From the multiple links on the router’s homepage for changing settings find a one and click on the “Security Settings” link to alter the router’s security settings.

Step five

An encryption setting must be chosen and create a password. You actually change the SSID (Security Service Identifier) by choosing the former. By default the SSID of the Netgear’s router network is “NETGEAR” itself. Mostly beginner computer users don’t change the default network name making it more vulnerable to an outside intrusion by the hackers. To distract the hackers you must put a name for your wireless network which you can remember. You must not only change the “network name” but also get other features changed too. To ensure high level of security latest Netgear routers offer WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) or a combo of WPA-PSK encryption for security. Any of the encryption types can be selected and a unique password can be created. Hence all users will be required to enter the password before they can log in to wireless network. Keep in mind to create an alphanumeric password. After creating the password click on ‘Confirm Password’ tab to save it. Click on “Apply” to save your settings and log off the router by clicking on the “logout” tab.

Netgear Wireless Security can be easily maintained by keeping the above words in mind. Ensure you drop your novice approach to prevent yourself from any intrusion.

How To Stop the Netgear Firewall

Firewalls are very important computer security components. They help protect from external threats that may attack or infiltrate the computer from the Internet. Most routers and modem already come with a firewall Netgear routers also usually come equipped with firewalls to provide extra protection for computer applications, but there are times when the firewall may hinder the user from carrying out some activities properly on the Internet. Some sites may be inaccessible because they are automatically blocked by the Netgear firewall. For this and other reasons it is sometimes necessary to stop Netgear firewall. Here are simple steps that you can follow to stop Netgear firewall.

Step One

You will need to first open yourInternet browser, which includes Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer browser on your computer. Next you need to access the navigation text box and key in the IP address of your router. The default Netgear IP addresses are or depending on the particular Netgear router that you have. You need to type in the appropriate Ip address of the router in the navigation text box and then press Enter.

Step Two

Once, the router’s IP address has been properly keyed in, a prompt will ask for your password and username. You need to type in this information to gain access to the”configuration console”. The default username is usually “admin” while the default password is usually password. After putting in this information, you again press Enter.

Step Three

At this point, the router Netgear menu would be displayed and then you need to click the tab labeled “Security”, after which you will again need to click on “Rules”. This is also sometimes displayed as “Firewall Rules”, which you will have to click and after that click on the “Add” option. The Add option is the rule concerning inbound traffic.

Step Four

Next you will need to input the term “Any” on the section labeled “Inbound Services”. An “Action” drop down box will appear on which you will need to select “Allow always” and then click on “Enabled” to enable it. This will save the new firewall rule settings that you just entered. Some Netgear router models will require that you click on a Save button to save the changes you made. Once completed and after closing your browser, the Netgear Firewall is disabled from your router.

These are the simple steps to stop the firewall on the Netgear router. The above mentioned steps and process may differ slightly depending on the model of router being used. Turning off the firewall does not totally prevent it from providing security. Disabling the firewall will however stop the firewall from preventing access to the Internet and would also disable the security function.

Since the user has the right to decide what to do on the Internet, they reserve the right to disable the firewall to maximizeInternet browsing pleasure. It may sometimes be necessary to consult with an expert or to visit the Netgear website to get more information on how to safely turn off your firewall.
