But in the recent settlement with class action members, a $2 million fund has been establishment for reimbursement and replacement of graphics cards and other components related to NVIDIA. This $2 million settlement was approved by a California court and NVIDIA started accepting claims. They are accepting notebooks for repair, replacements or reimbursements.

Nvidia Mobile GPU Lawsuit

The problem of faulty NVIDIA GPUs put the company to shame. The consumer`s court held NVIDIA responsible for the defect in hips of laptops sold to a few consumers and a law suit was claimed. Three after the purchase of the laptop with the defected chips, the laptop became `dead` with the GPU based chips not functioning and there was nothing that could be done. Your 1, 2, 3 year old laptop would suddenly not boot-up and cause problems.

Class action suits were claimed. While NVIDIA did not give in to the claims, they were made to settle in court towards those consumers who filed their claims. These consumers had bought the laptops and had found them defective over a period of time. Since they were at a quandary to claim their money or to use the laptops, the consumers having filed the lawsuit had been unable to get anything while, the company fatly accepted the claims and agreed to replace the laptops.

Beginning around 2006, NVIDIA shipped chips which would cook to death themselves, while it resulted in dead hardware for consumers. The consumers have had many months in the court where they have been trying getting through, a class-action lawsuit, which would result in a 2 million dollar accumulated claims for laptop the repair, reimbursement or replacement based on what the customer suffered.

NVIDIA agreed to make reimbursements to the claims of the consumers by making good to them the defective laptops and issuing them brand new laptops. They made good the money spent by them for repairs. As for HP laptops, since there were no replacements available for the units that were defective, the NVIDIA Company issued new replacements.

The list of possibly affected laptop consumers has gone up according to a report as of Jan 2011. Mostly Apple laptops and Mac users are affected – the models being those Mac Book Pro models manufactured between 2007 and 2008. The Dell and HP notebooks manufactured between 2005 – 2010 have been affected. In total, 21 types of models of the Dell machines are known to be affected as of the same number of models by HP too. 2 models from Apple Mac book Pro are affected. The claim period started on the 13th Jan and will go on till 14th of March. While Apple and Dell consumers will get replacement of parts and other related repairs to be covered by their claim, HP models are eligible for replacements.

Problems that came to the fore of distortions, and scrambled video were of the graphic components and display. Despite malfunctioning of the graphic components, there has not been any fall in the rate of consumption of NVIDIA products. The computer builders are in fact increasing their consumption of these products from NVIDIA. The failures in the GPU component were showing due to the decision of NVIDIA to use a non- eutectic material which causes corrupted video or no signal on heating up.

LG Optimus 2X Revealed at CES 2011

The CES 2011, a bonanza for techies and the Super Bowl of technology for various products on the anvil by various players in the market, introduced a variety of gadgetry with unbelievable features that are mind boggling. In the smart phone arena, two companies revealed interesting and intriguing smart phones powered by Nvidia’s new dual core chip. Motorola with the intriguing Atrix and LG with its Optimus 2X, almost making it a full-fledged PC. Along with its super fast processor, the LG Optimus 2X boasts a new type of display with the feature of using ambient light to increase the brightness in well lit environments, thus increasing battery life.

Even the Quadrant benchmark tests revealed, very high scores for the LG Optimus 2X, the Android super phone running Android 2.2 Froyo and, has been on everyone’s lips since the CES 2011. This achievement in the Quadrant benchmark has put the LG Optimus 2X way ahead of live, so called successful, big bash Motorola Droid X and even the Google Nexus One. Being the first of LG’s dual core Android phones, and sporting a Tegra 2 chip inside, you can definitely see and feel the difference a Tegra 2 makes in your phone when playing around with it. It is no less than a tablet PC.

The Android 2.2 in the LG Optimus 2X, is programmed to receive the Android 2.3 updates, sports a one gigahertz dual core Tegra 2 processor by Nvidia, and a 8MP camera with flash and with a 1.3 MP camera on the front. It features good video recording and playback, as also a 4 inch capacitive touch screen with a wonderful resolution. Bluetooth, Wi Fi, Micro SD slot, HDMI, Micro USB, 3.5 mm headset jack and a 1500 mAh battery are some of the basic features the LG Optimus 2X presents.

LG’s LG Optimus 2X will definitely make Motorola run for their money. A really great device, the LG Optimus 2X came out triumphant at the CES 2011 with the ultra special gaming feature. Besides the feature of being able to stream out the gaming feature in HD onto a magnificent HD LG TV. The 800 by 480 resolution is something interesting to look at. The simple but effective styling of the LG Optimus 2X, using a single sheet of glass for the whole front section, incorporating 4 touch sensitive buttons in the standard Android arrangement is something to feel and ogle about. Of course you can’t beat the Google device, Google Nexus S when it comes to effectiveness in making the buttons disappear when the phone’s display is turned off, but this effect definitely brings about a smart and minimalistic look when the phone is not in use.

Thanks to LG, the matte black plastic, in the LG Optimus 2X and simple rounded edges gives you a very nice feel when held. Although not the slimmest phone on the market, the build quality feels solid enough and impressive piece of hardware.
