Help Solve the Outlook ‘General Failure’ E-Mail Error

You may have encountered a problem similar to this, You click on one of the link in your mail and then it either gives you error that the link is broken or could not be found. It is called General Failure error. Can happen with any of the operating system be it XP or Vista. Many suggest it could be because of Firefox that is installed on your computer and needs modification in the registry of your computer. For those who don’t know what registry is, it is nervous system or brain of your computer. Well we would suggest trying some basic steps before you try those advance level of modification.

Step 1: Please decide which browser you would use in future. I mean which one of them you use most of the time, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Chrome or Safari. Once decided please move to Step 2.

Step 2: Please click on start and then go for All Programs and then Set Program access and Defaults. This will bring up the section where you can set the computer to choose the default browser (Application to use Internet).Thus removing the conflicts between the different browsers. Once you see the box click on the one that says custom.

Step 3: In this window please select the correct browser the one that you use mostly and will be used with outlook to open the link in the mail. Once done please click on the OK button and this should work after toy restart the Outlook and the Browser.

Salesforce.com unfazed by Microsoft® CRM

Microsoft has ventured into CRM (Customer Relationship Management), a field which generally was Salesforce.com’s play field. Microsoft has gone after CRM with reduced prices, a better development model, easier configuration and customization and a native outlook interface which makes training easier. Its major card is its low pricing and Salesforce’s customer base. It is offering services within the price bracket of 46 dollars to 59 dollars per user as compared to the 65 dollars starting price of Salesforce. Google in comparison to Salesforce is providing storage space between 5Gb and 20 GB, whereas Salesforce offers 1 GB space for all of its packages.

Salesforce in a statement tried to play down Microsoft’s new venture. However Microsoft’s offer comes with a 2 year licensing rider. Microsoft’s CRM’s advantages are a wide range of deployment options–SaaS, on premise hosted or hybrid compared to Salesforce offering only SaaS deployment; more user space low total cost to organization , more vertical solutions due to extended network of pre existing solution partners, easy configuration and customization through web services and solution capabilities. Salesforce has limited or no vertical functionality, twice the price, limited per user storage space.

Microsoft is also providing integration to a pre existing suite of back office ERP systems like Dynamics AX, GP, and NAV unlike Salesforce’s inability to provide a service at par with this. Its advantages over other CRM solution providers are that it allows you to work from Microsoft Office and Outlook, keeps your data secure, and provides a one stop solution for all your customer data information.

How to view different calendars in Windows Phone 7

Windows Phone 7 is a mobile phone operating system developed by Microsoft and its is the successor to their windows Mobile platform. Windows Phone 7 had been aimed at the consumer market alternatively the enterprise market in contrast to its predecessor,

Windows phone 7 supports multiple Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) accounts. If you want to use multiple calendars from different services, then you can view them all together on your phone each calendar represented by a different colour.

You can turn an individual calendar on or off or you can change it’s colour from the calendars settings screen.

In Windows phone 7 you can sync only one calendar per account and if you have multiple calendars associated with an account then your phone will recognize which calendar is the primary calendar and sync is that one.

When you want to set up email accounts on your phone you can see all your calendars from multiple services like Outlook, Google and Windows Live.

If you want to change the view

Step 1:

Start your phone and press calendar then if you want to see your appointments in a list format then twitch left to Agenda.

In a day view, if you have navigated to a different day and you would like to return to the present just simply press Today.

If you want to turn off or change the colour for individual accounts

By default you will see calendars from all accounts you have set up on your phone and they will be colour coded, you can turn calendars for individual accounts on or off or change the colour representing each calendar.

Step 1:

Start your phone then press on the calendar.

Now press More then press calendars and then under the account you want to change to turn a calendar on or off press the toggle switch next to the account name and then to change a calendar’s colour press the colour and then press a new color.

How to use calendar appointments in Windows Phone 7

If you are using Windows Phone 7 and you would like to set up an email account on your phone like Outlook and Google, then you can also access the calendar associated with that account.  In order to create an appointment in the calendar, please follow the steps mentioned below:

Step 1:

Start your phone and press Calendar icon.

Step 2:

Now press in the Subject box and type a Subject, then press in the Location box and type a Location

Step 3:

If you want to change the date or time of the appointment then go to under When and press in the appropriate edit box, now flick the month, day, year or time up or down and then press Done.

Step 4:

If you want to change when you will be reminded of the appointment press More details and press the Reminder box and then choose how far in advance you want to be reminded of the appointment.

Step 5:

You can make your appointment a recurring meeting just press the Occurs box and then choose an option, you can change your status press the status box and then choose a status.

Step 6:

To add other attendees besides yourself press Add someone and then under Required or Optional press Add someone, press a contact then press the email address you’d like the meeting request to be sent to and then press Done.

Step 7:

To make the appointment private select Private and to add notes press the Notes box and then you can enter any additional information.

Step 8:

Now press save button to save the appointment in your calendar and send meeting requests to any attendees.

If you would like to delete or making any changes to the appointments, please follow the steps mentioned below:

Step 1:

Start your phone and press calendar

Step 2:

Now press the appointment you want to change or delete and then press Edit, now you can change any of the appointment details as desired and then press Save.

Step 3:

If you want to delete an appointment from your calendar then press Delete and then press Delete again if the appointment is a recurring appointment now press One If you want to delete only the current appointment or All to delete all of the appointment.

If you would like to respond to a meeting request, please follow the steps mentioned below:

Step 1:

Start your phone and press calendar, now press an appointment that you have not yet responded to the coloured bar will not be filled in and then see who else as been invited and flick left to Attendees.

Step 2:

You can accept the meeting request, for that press Accept if you would like to send a comment with your response now enter your note and press Send.

Step 3:

To decline the meeting request and press Decline, if you would like to send a comment with your response then you can enter your note and press Send.

Step 4:

If you want to propose a new time press Respond and then press Propose New Time then enter a new time now press Done and after that press Send.

Step 5:

You can tentatively accept the meeting request and press More, and then press Tentative, if you would like to send a comment with your response then enter your note and press Send.

Step 6:

To change the details of the meeting you can press More then press Edit and you can change any details as desired and then press Save.

Microsoft recently announced 33% reduction on Mac Office price

Microsoft has slashed the price of its Office for Mac 2011 suite by as much as 33% . Office for Mac 2011 has planned to launch it towards the end of last month and will be given heavy discount at several online and brick-and-mortar retailers starting on 25thof November. That is coincided with the Thanksgiving Day in the U.S. the deal will last until Monday that is 29th Nov.

The company is said to be focusing on three things with this new release: better compatibility across platforms, improved collaboration tools, and a more refined user interface. Not only will this suite include Outlook for Mac, which replaces Entourage as Office’s e-mail client. The new version of Office recently launched will also offer renewed support for Visual Basic, which was dropped in the 2008 version of the productivity suite.

According to the Mac business unit, compatibility means more than making sure that document, spreadsheets, and presentations created on one platform open and render correctly on the other. It has also been noticed that roughly three quarters of their Mac users use Windows at least occasionally and is working to make the new Office for the Mac morefunctionally compatible with the Windows edition.

The new version of Office will incorporate all the document-collaboration features that will take advantage of Microsoft’s online storage features. Mac 2011 users, Mac office users will be able to share files and collaborate on documents with other Mac and Windows users via Microsoft’s SharePoint, sky drive, and Office Web Apps.

Microsoft did not hesitate to explain the features, which includes integration with several cloud-based services that Windows users can access from Office 2010. Some of them like the free Windows Live SkyDrive online storage service, SharePoint collaboration tools and Office Web Apps.

As a competitor, Amazon.com will also cut the price of Home & Student by $40, to $79 for the one-license version and $109 for the three-license package.

Other retailers, including Apple’s own stores, Best Buy, MacMall and Microsoft’s e-store, are also planning to chop off $20 from the list price of Home & Student as a step to increase its sale.

In Amazon’s software bestseller list, Office for Mac 2011 Home & Student held the No. 5 spot, where as the pricier Home & Business had the No. 7 spot.  The home and windows includes the same Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications as Home & Student, but with a twist, it adds the Outlook e-mail client to the mix. In the same package, Microsoft’s Windows-based Office 2010 Home & Student is placed in No. 1 position.

Microsoft edging closer to Cloud computing domain

Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer and New York City mayor Michael R. Bloomberg recently announced new cloud based services for New York. This agreement will boost competition for similar services offered by Google. Under this contract, about 30,000 New York worker will use Microsoft’s Business productivity online suite. This information will be sent to Microsoft data centers and they will use various Microsoft services like Office which includes Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

Form next year onwards, workers will be migrated to new Office 365 suite. It will increase more technology uses in New York City, deputy mayor Mr. Goldsmith told reporters that most of the workers do not have even e-mail account. This agreement will increase use of technology among them and workforce will do more technology oriented work now onwards.

There is huge competitive pressure from Microsoft’s rivals like Google and IBM and this agreement will boost its presence in cloud computing. The agreement value will be $20 million annually and New York will save over $50 million in next five years. There will be no need to purchase as many computing hardware as many people work on that, because of the cloud computing they will work online. Cloud computing is important as it consolidated power in data centers and uses the internet to connect users to applications and data stored in data centers.

Goldsmith also said that we took advantage of the competition among software companies in cloud computing. Microsoft’s step is the result of this competition from Google as Google is also providing similar product online at simple rate of $50. But Microsoft’ product is broader and Google is yet to match the product. Microsoft is also aware of the consumer’s trends to use Google cards and they are doing everything to change the trend. Under this agreement we also learnt that there will be upgrade of Windows 7, some server software and access to Microsoft’s cloud computing hosting and programming: Azure. This agreement will also help in trimming New York data center from 50 to one.

Microsoft will make three layers of workers based on the application they use the most and give access to them to use the applications. New York administrators also said that they do not know how many software agreements exist in the city. The Microsoft’s Office 365 will boost customer-relationship management program and also boost new innovation in New York City work approach.

Mr. Goldsmith also supports his counterpart Mr. Bloomberg and comments about the Pizza deal and said we are excited about the Microsoft and New York cloud computing deal and it will extend the technology use in our sector. He also said that we are looking forward to use these services to save our cost and to use more and more technology in our work.

However a vice president of Microsoft said that there will be no changes in the Microsoft’s licensing model and we will stick to the same model.
