4 steps to set up your home wireless network

Having made things much easier for the users through a variety of applications, the Internet is as useful a thing for Corporate Executive as it is to a homemaker. Setting up a Home Wireless network is a thing of the present as not only offices but also homes and individual users depend a great deal on the Internet, than ever before.

4 steps to set up your home wireless network

Despite the rising demands of setting up Home Wireless Networks, there are certain steps that need to be kept in mind while setting up a Home Wireless Network, which are mentioned below.

Step 1: A wireless router is most essential device for enabling a wireless network that is required to be purchased. It helps to convert the signals coming across your Internet connection into a wireless broadcast. It must also be made sure that you get a USB port in case you have a desktop computer.

Step 2: The next step involves setting up all the equipment you now have. The cable of the DSL modem that you have needs to be turned off by unplugging it. This procedure will disconnect the Internet connection and now the wireless router needs to be connected to the modem. In case you are using a desktop, a connection should be established between the modem and the back of the computer. For this purpose, unplug the cable from the back of the computer and fix it into the Internet, WAN or WLAN port on the back of the router. However, if you are using a laptop, the network cable should be connected between the modem and a port of the router.

Step 3: In this step, you need to configure the wireless router which firstly involves temporarily attaching the network cable to the computer. After this is done, you should restart your computer to enable an Internet connection. Once it restarts, open the web browser, type the IP Address in the address bar (default in most cases is either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) and you would then be asked to enter the Username and Password. On the next page, you need to firstly change the SSID or the network name to something of your choice, which would block outsiders from using the network. Then you get to the WPA/WEP encryption passphrase which is provided for generation of several keys by the router. It needs to be ensured that the passphrase is long enough and unique to avoid unwanted access. The ADMIN PASSWORD also needs to be difficult to remember and make sure to write it down for changing the settings later. After going through all the above settings, click on ‘Save settings’ or ‘Apply’ to culminate the proceedings.

Step 4: The network cable should then be disconnected from the computer and connected back into the router.

You can restart the computer once more to refresh the settings and the computer would then automatically find the wireless connection. The Home Wireless network is now set up and ready to be used.

How to Set Up Security for a Wireless Network With Comcast

Nowadays, network connections are spurring at a very faster pace and we are aided by a proficient and ample internet connection along with a better file sharing facility apart from other stuffs too. Hence there are different means to get connected to a wireless network using your router or any other means as such. Now suppose you are

Setting up your wireless connection using a Comcast network for home usage. Then it’s necessary to pay heed to security stuff at the time of installation of the latter. Wireless connections are broadcasted air as a medium and it is quite plausible that your data transfer may become a source of infringement. That is your data transfer may get attacked by the malicious user and can be quite harmful too. To plan a wireless network you have to bring to lime light certain standards which will be help full to secure the data, and thus computers can be guarded from being hacked.

A set of guidelines are as follows:

Step one

Get the computer Installed with anti-virus software which can access through the wireless network like Wi-Fi. McAfee is recommended by Comcast, but other providers like AVG and Norton also offer anti-virus products which can be used to build up a security for the wireless internet connection. Keep in mind to update your anti-virus software which you have installed. Moreover, emphasise on the Anti-virus virus definitions which must get updated regularly.

Step two

The wireless router must be placed at such a location in your home which is central. Thus, allowing the waves of wireless network to spread throughout the home from the router without being damped. The main cause of reduction in strength is the interference caused by the walls and materials amid its way. The interference makes it less probable for the data indicted to be received using the router. This actually means that the packets of data are lost and interference makes the signal to go in vain.

Step three

Bear in mind to protect important information on your computer. For instance, do not save essentials like credit card numbers, debit card numbers or network security numbers on the computer in a notepad text pad. Apply the encryption software or try a best means to keep the password protected and encrypted at the same time. A Hacker if gains and access to the wireless network of yours remember he/she can also get on to the directory of your computer, hence protection of wireless network must be given a prime priority.

Step four

Install Firewall software for the Router. Mostly used Routers like Linksys and D-Link available are firewall enabled. Refer to the manufacturer’s manual for the router and go for firewall configurations and get them implemented on the wireless router of you are currently using.

Step five

Like WPA encryption for your wireless router is the best option in hand. The router settings allow you to choose which kind of security can be used.

How to Reconfigure Network Set-up of a Wireless Connection

Reconfiguration of your wireless network can be tiring as well as frustrating. However, it is essential to protect the system against unwanted intruders and hackers. All reconfiguration of the wireless setup can be done through the router. This may not only include modifying the network name and password but also help in optimizing the bandwidth to strengthen the network security. Router is the device that broadcasts your high-speed Internet signal and contains all the configurations that define the wireless access of the computer. For easy access and modification of the network settings, the router comes with an instruction manual.

Instructions to Reconfigure a Wireless Network Setup

Reconfiguration of the wireless setup requires the following steps to be followed.

Step 1: It must be ensured that the wireless router is attached to the DSL model or the cable correctly. The Wide Area network or the WAN port of the wireless router must be properly connected to the modem.

Step 2: The computer must then be connected to one of the other ports on the wireless router through an Ethernet cable. It will enable the computer to communicate directly with the router’s settings.

Step 3: Turn off the wireless router.turn it on again after few seconds and wait until all the lights on in turn on and remain stable.

Step 4: Switch on the computer and open the web browser (Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer etc). Click on the address window at the top of the screen. Enter the IP Address as 192.168.1.1, which is the default router address for all routers unless stated otherwise in the instructions manual. If you lost the manual or it wasn’t able with the router when it was bought, there are a few other ways through which the information can be found out. You can contact the manufacturer or go to the manufacturer’s website to look for the correct IP Address of the specific router. Alternatively you can also log in to ‘www.routerpasswords.com’ to look up the model and brand of your router. Otherwise, you can also google the name of the router and there are many websites who can provide you with the information. Another way to find out the default Address is by clicking on the start button. Then click on ‘Run’ and in type ‘cmd’ in the space provided. A new window will open and you can find the Address corresponding to ‘Default gateway’.

Step 5: Enter the IP Address in the address bar and hit Enter to go to the Login page. The default ID and Password needs to be entered as ‘admin’ unless stated otherwise in the manual. This takes you to the router’s configuration page.

Step 6: On this page, you can access the wireless network setup and thereby change the network name (SSID), password or encryption type.

If you want other trustworthy individuals to gain access to the network and use the Internet, you can share the password with them too. However, one must be careful in this respect as a computer system is quite vulnerable to hackers and harmful content.

How to Set up a Secured Wireless Network on Netgear

Through Networking we can not only connect ourselves to the world of “Internet” but also we will have the facility of LAN, WAN and MAN. The most widely used means of connection nowadays is the “Wireless” means. Nowadays, router’s manufacturers give prime importance to the “Wireless” source. Netgear, the gems of “Wireless Networking Hardware” are topping the charts. Wireless Network requires a wireless router, a high speed modem, a computer (high configuration enabled) and subscription to an ISP (Internet Service Provider). Netgear allows it’s user to change the wireless router’s security settings in order to shield your online service and protect the data transmitted.

How can you secure your Netgear Wireless Network?

Step one

Get your router installed. To connect your Netgear wireless router to the DSL modem, use an Ethernet cable. Another Ethernet cable is required to connect the router to your computer. Ensure that all of the devices above mentioned are switched off when you connect them. Once, connection is fixed. Turn on your DSL modem followed by the router and then your computer. Remember to switch on the devices in order and allow an ample two minutes for the devices to recognize one another.

Step two

To log in to the router, open your web browser and type router’s address to upload router’s settings. You can find your router’s address on the setup CD or the user guide that came with your router. Mostly Netgear’s router holds the address of this type “http://192.168.1.1”, “http://www.routerlogin.net” or “http://www.routerlogin.net”. Once you type in those IP addresses press the “Enter” key of your keyboard.

Step three

To access your router’s settings you will be required to enter the username and password. By default, the password is “password” while the username is “username”. Keep in mind the default username and password must be in lowercase because the textboxes are case-sensitive.

Step four

From the multiple links on the router’s homepage for changing settings find a one and click on the “Security Settings” link to alter the router’s security settings.

Step five

An encryption setting must be chosen and create a password. You actually change the SSID (Security Service Identifier) by choosing the former. By default the SSID of the Netgear’s router network is “NETGEAR” itself. Mostly beginner computer users don’t change the default network name making it more vulnerable to an outside intrusion by the hackers. To distract the hackers you must put a name for your wireless network which you can remember. You must not only change the “network name” but also get other features changed too. To ensure high level of security latest Netgear routers offer WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) or a combo of WPA-PSK encryption for security. Any of the encryption types can be selected and a unique password can be created. Hence all users will be required to enter the password before they can log in to wireless network. Keep in mind to create an alphanumeric password. After creating the password click on ‘Confirm Password’ tab to save it. Click on “Apply” to save your settings and log off the router by clicking on the “logout” tab.

Netgear Wireless Security can be easily maintained by keeping the above words in mind. Ensure you drop your novice approach to prevent yourself from any intrusion.

How to set up a server network

A server is a sole purpose it to provide ample access to the user to Internet and thereby, allow them to communicate with other computers through a robust network. The server is of many types but the most important work which the server is used it to provide its user is ample access and speedy performance. Since high traffic is no doubt is serious issue but some server’s mainly allocate the data at a speed of I GB/sec in order to to tackle the traffic load. However there are all the parts of such a network available in market in order to build such a network and the network can be building accordingly.

A central location must be switched over with gigabyte network switch like a hub or router. Since each computer will be requiring a network line running in to the central location, hence a before hand assurance is a must for turning the setup practically possible. The Ethernet card should be plugged in to the empty port of the switch including the server along with the entire computer available on the network. The cables should be ran to each system and plug in Internet modem Ethernet cable too in to the switch to avail the sharing service.

Plug in the Ethernet cable to each computer as well as to the server and to take maximum merit of ample gigabyte speed, a networking card is capable of handling the gigabyte speed is required. To check your computer’s networking card’s detail. A Microsoft Windows OS user must find it this way. Right-click on the ‘My computer’ icon on your desktop, a dialogue box appears which shows ‘properties’ option at the last, click on ‘properties‘, then a dialogue box appears click on the ‘Hardware Tab’ and you will see certain options on it and then click on the ‘Device Manager’ tab which then display the details of the devices attached to your PC. The ‘Network adapters’ option will give you the detail about the networking card attached to your PC.

After you’re done with plugging in and checking up your network adapter details and the final but the most important step remains to setup your server network in order to enjoy ample and robust facilities on to your network. You have to run the ‘Network Configuration’ wizard, which you can directly find on to your ‘Control panel’. A Windows based user must follow this way, click on start followed by a click on the control panel option. A dialogue box appears which has ‘‘Network Configuration’ option available in it. Click on the wizard and the tool will automatically detect the network and types of computers on it. If you printer & files share then network name will be asked by the wizard. The moment the wizard gets completed , restart your PC and you have your Server Network setup done on your PC.

Thus, Server network not only helps one to enjoy ample speedy performance for downloading & browsing, but can also allow one to share files and printer on the same with a robust network a must requirement to do so.
