How to Change Appearance of Buttons on the Taskbar

Computer is like a highly skilled labor being employed by its user. It gives every opportunity to its user to get the maximum out of it. And for that reason has simplified itself for better usage.

Huh!!!! Let’s stop personifying this man made wonder and let us continue to wonder about the incessant increase in innovation that we are witnessing in our computers. The user of the computer is undoubtedly its task master. The task master commands and it works accordingly. For simplifying the user’s work, there is an option called taskbar which is located right at the bottom end of the screen. Taskbar helps you to open your files easily and even enables you to switch between the files.

About Taskbar:
The taskbar has three major sections. The first is the start button which opens the start menu .The middle section is the one which shows which programme or files one has opened and helps him to switch between them rapidly. The third part is the notification area .This part includes a clock and icons which appear as small pictures. The most used part of the taskbar is the middle section that is most commonly used.

Functions and Utility:
Opening more than program can lead to pilling up of a number of open windows at a time. The problem with these windows is that they often tend to cover each other .It sometimes becomes extremely hard or even impossible to locate what is happening underneath. When the same happens it is difficult to remember about the windows and the files that have already been opened. This is exactly where the taskbar comes to be handy to a considerable extent.

The taskbar becomes extremely helpful whenever a program or file is opened a corresponding button on the taskbar is created. An icon is showed by the buttons which represents the open program. If you are trying to interact with a particular window click its corresponding taskbar button .Whenever you feel like switching towards a different window click on the taskbar button corresponding to that.

Change how buttons appear on the taskbar:
This is the crux of the article that is intended to know how to change how buttons appear on the taskbar. The task can be done in the following ways.

Combining hide labels
This is the default setting. Each of the programmes appears as unlabelled single button even when a number of windows are open.

Combine when taskbar is full
This is the setting shows each window as a single labeled button. When the taskbar becomes packed .Programs having multiple open windows would collapse into one particular program button. The windows that are open are usually displayed upon clicking the button. This setting and the Never Combine setting resembles the earlier version of the windows.

Never Combine
The never combine is similar to the combine when the taskbar is full .The only characteristic that separates it is that the buttons don’t fall into a single button regardless of the number of windows that may be opened. As more programs and windows would open buttons would gradually decrease in size and they would eventually scroll within the taskbar.

How to Change the view of Taskbar in Windows 7

Taskbar is the most visible change in Windows 7, I am digging the new look and feel of it, however if you feel you want some change in the way it looks or not happy about it and / or prefer how it was in the earlier versions – it is not difficult to change at all. Windows 7 is all about giving you options and you have ways to make your new Windows 7 operating system taskbar to look or resemble way it way in previous versions of Windows.

All about properties

Most changes can be made in Taskbar properties. You can get to the Taskbar properties by simply right clicking at any free space on the taskbar and choosing properties. What is that bothers you, is it the icons instead of buttons? That is easily fixed, once you are in the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window, under the first tab, which is Taskbar, change the Taskbar buttons drop down menu either “Never Combine” or “Combine when taskbar is full”. These options are within the Taskbar appearance column. This will let you instantly see that the icons are now changed to buttons with their text written next to it. Within the properties you can also uncheck the “Lock the taskbar” option to allow it to show all icons and functions already set on it; alternatively change the position if you are used to the side rather than always at the bottom.

Unpinning icons

Some Windows tools like calculator, notepad, and QuickTime player are pinned to the taskbar, so you can quickly launch these programs. However, if you feel it is taking the space on your taskbar and want them removed, it is as easy as right clicking on the tool that you want removed and choosing the option “Unpin this program from taskbar”. Alternatively if you still need programs to quickly launch you can use a Quick Launch instead of having your programs listed as icons on the Taskbar.

Resizing and changing view

You can also adjust the icon size to either large or small icons, depending on your preference. By default the program buttons on the Taskbar is displayer as larger icons, you can right click on the Taskbar and change view to small icons; this will resemble the way program buttons were displayed in Windows Vista. Also if you want to change the whole Desktop theme and the taskbar, simply choose the Windows Classic theme to go back in memory lane.

Windows 7 lets you customise the way you want the taskbar to look and your overall experience with the Windows 7 operating system. I would recommend that you try the new features and the look so you can get a feel of the whole smooth finish look, rather than adjusting it back to the way it looked in the previous versions. Make use of Aero Snap, Aero Peek and Quick Launch option to experiment with the enhanced functionality that Windows 7 is giving it to you.

“Aero Peek” is a feature in Windows 7 that has replaced the old “Show Desktop” feature. Peek seems to give the user the power of having an x-ray vision for his computer screen.

Positioning the cursor of the mouse over that small rectangle would alloy the user to get a peek at all the windows that are open. When you are peeking behind all these open windows, all the windows would hide and only the outlines of all the windows will be shown.
