Gadgets launched at CES 2011

At the 2011 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), several new gadgets such as laptops, tablet computers, smart phones, televisions, operating systems, and more, were launched. Acer introduced the innovative dual touch screen ICONIA notebook. The Acer ICONIA notebook has the Windows 7 operating system, virtual keyboard, SocialJogger, Gesture Editor, and many more advanced features.

At CES 2011, Dell introduced the Dell Inspiron Duo convertible tablet. It has a 10.1-inch touchscreen which can be detached to convert it into a tablet computer. Dell Inspiron Duo is powered by the Intel Atom N550 processor and the screen has a resolution of 1366 × 768 pixels. It has 2GB DDR3 RAM, 250GB SATA hard disk drive, Gigabit Ethernet LAN, and Windows 7 Home Premium operating system. In the original position it is a regular netbook with a full keyboard. On detaching the screen it converts into a tablet with touch screen. It has four-cell battery, which offers back up for four hours.

Samsung Series 9 Notebook will compete with the Apple MacBook Air laptop. The new ultra-portable 13.3-inch Samsung Series 9 Notebook runs on the Windows 7 operating system.  This laptop features a 128 GB SSD, the Intel Core i5 processor, 4 GB DDR3 RAM, 13.3-inch LED HD screen, HDMI ports, USB 3.0, Ethernet, headphone output, two speakers of 1.5 Watt, etc.

Microsoft Not to Invest in 3D

Ball is heading towards the goal post, It’s about to get in and there comes the defender to save it. Excitements in the sports are unexplainable and can not be avoided. What would be your reaction if someone claims that excitement in the ground can be brought to the home? Above that what is if you are a part of that game? Well, this is what 3D gaming defines. You will feel as if you are currently on the ground and recent goal is done by none other than you! It sounds exciting, isn’t it?

Unfortunately, you have to wait for such an enormous experience for few more years. Microsoft was found quoted that to bring 3D gaming in reality is quiet expensive than expected. The gaming world was thrilled when Microsoft declared few weeks ago that they are going to bring the dream into reality. It also claimed they have this plan on the top of their agenda. What the reporters and experts heard in the E3 press conference earlier this week was completely different from their claimed 3D strategy. Thus it seems like gamers all over the world need to have more patience to gain live experience.

Microsoft UK division official said that though the recent launch of televisions and laptops with 3D functionality in electronic consumer market is going to create craze in the upcoming era, the hardware used to acquire this technology is well behind the budget of the ordinary customers. Microsoft products always lie on or little above the average consumer capability. So it is quiet obvious that to acquire high paying rich customers, Microsoft won’t leave their grip on the budget consumer market. Many experts made assumption that when Sony declared that they are going to bring 3D technology in gaming, Microsoft will also take part in competition.

Though Microsoft has changed their mind in 3D strategy, they are not going to be quiet. Officials said that instead they will invest into newly acquired Kinect technology which actually defines motion sensing for gaming. It is developed for Xbox 360 platform. With the help of Kinect, you can play games without even touching game controller. It directs the game motions through natural user interface that includes detection of gestures or commands given by user etc. The interface follows the commands and performs actions in game.

As we all know that to watch the 3D TV we must have special type of glasses. These glasses cost around 100 pounds and are very delicate. If you have a child in the house then you must have to protect glasses from breaking. If you were spectacles than 3D glasses wont fit on your eyes. Now in region like UK where 66% of the population uses glasses, this type of technology will result in nothing but loss of company. Microsoft thus referred 3D technology in entertaining electronic devices as a ‘fad’ to which they were claiming a revolution few days ago. Microsoft’s decision, no doubt, is going to make roots of Sony in the gaming market if they come up with 3D in near future.

Growing Vantage of Norton

Peter Norton himself wrote the code for his antivirus which later ruled the world of protection software’s market. Norton has been in this business for long and has always been a good player. Recently people have a notion that Norton products are messy and hard to install and harder to remove. This project is for developing products which will actually protect anything and everything which is connected to a network – again Internet and Intranet both. As announced by Norton, Norton Everywhere is an initiative to provide Security, Data Safeguarding, and Infrastructure related software for various consumer devices which have capability to connect to the internet. Devices like Mobile phones, Game consoles, DVR’s, Televisions, and other smart devices. According to IDC there are 10 billion non PC devices which have the capability to connect to the internet and many of these devices lack built in security against cyber vulnerabilities. This number is expected to grow about 20 billion by 2014 and Norton is targeting the same.

Norton Everywhere is the mother project and consists of several sub/mini projects.

Some of the Sub-Projects of Norton  are:

  • Norton Connect.

It is an application for iPhones, iPads, and Android Phones with which they can connect to Norton online backup or Norton 360. It gives them access to all the files they have stored using the above mentioned backup software. This application would be available for download from iPhone store or from the online Android market.

  • Norton Mobile.

It is an application for downloading Norton software directly on mobile phones.

  • Norton DNS.

It is a DNS which filters the data for more reliability, safe browsing, and faster internet connection. It enhances the browsing experience by providing various services like antiphishing, antimalware, and antispyware at the DNS level.

  • Norton for Smart Devices.

Recently Norton has announced a strategic partnership with Mocana Corporation for initiating the Norton Smart Device project. Under this project Norton will key solutions for the protection of smart devices. This will be done by securely upgrading the devices firmware, operating system, and applications for protecting them over the internet. Norton has plans to partner with major smart device manufactures for intelligently upgrading the protection technology on their products.

About 3D TVs

How do 3D TVs work?

3D TVs allow you to watch shows, objects, images and videos in 3D format. It has a special port where a stereoscopic sync signal connector can be placed that connects to an Infrared emitter, which sends the signal to your 3D glasses. The simple process synchronises your glasses with the 3D screen. Even if you do have a 3D TV, as well as the glasses and the Infrared emitter, you will not be able to see everything on your TV as 3D. The reason behind this is not simply the TV itself that produces the 3D picture, but it is the footage that needs to be 3D compatible, so that this signal can be transferred.

How do you see the images and videos in 3D format?

Everything around you appears in 3D, but when you look at it on television you do not see the same way, as it flat on TV. 3D technology alters the way we focus on objects. It makes your brain to think that the picture on TV has depth by making each view the same picture at two different locations. Therefore, it becomes tougher for your eyes to look constantly, so you shouldn’t spend extended time watching 3D objects.

Various types of 3D glasses?

There are two types of 3D glasses, like passive and active. Passive glasses are the traditional 3D glasses that use two different color lenses, usually blue and red. These colors filter images that appear on the screen. Without the glasses you will see the images on screen in both the colors. The red color absorbs blue light and blue absorbs red light, so each eye will see the image in the other colour. Each eye is sees one set of images and therefore, it converges to make one 3D image. Active lenses use LCD technology that feature infrared sensor, allowing it to connect wirelessly to TV. Instead of having the image in two different hues, two sets of images are shown at different times at a very fast speed. In this way the eye is tricked to think that there are two images which you see in 3D format.
