Indian IT companies create global job opportunities

Indian IT firms have turned truly global by creating job opportunities not only in India but also in the US. According to a report published by Live Mint, companies such as Infosys and Wipro have started programs in the US to retrain unemployed workers in technology skills, which will help them to get a job. The Wayne County Community College District of Detroit, White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, and the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, entered into a partnership with Infosys to provide technical training in Detroit, Michigan.

Infosys started an eighteen week software bootcamp for which candidates were chosen through a written test and an interview. Among the many people who benefited from this initiative by Infosys was Sam Blue, an automobile insurance salesman who had lost his job in September 2011. He enrolled for a six weeks software development training program and got placement at a job fair. Earlier in November 2011, Wipro also offered employment opportunities to Iraq war veterans in the US.

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 leading the Gaming Arena of U.S

The gaming industry today is undoubtedly the most booming industry across the globe. To utter amazement with major players like Microsoft Corporation, Sony Corp. and Nintendo Co. in the gaming arena, the sales of the video games fell by 6% in U.s markets making it a total of about $1.1 billion in the past month of June. The overall slump in the gaming industry of U.S is accounted to a major loss by Nintendo DS and not so successful season from Playstation 3.  Comparing the sales of the leaders in the gaming arena, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is on a lead. Xbox 360 had a big competition with Playstation 3 right from its launch. The lead is a definite indication that gamers love the all-new Xbox 360 that has sharper textures and better graphics as compared to the Playstation 3 games.

For the Microsoft’s Xbox, the sales were up by 88% making a total sale of 451,700 units in U.S. The success was accounted to the introduction of the slimmer model for the console that had a higher hard disc space. The new slim model by Xbox 360 comes up with 250 GB hard disc space and built-in Wi Fi against previous models with 120 and 80 GB hard disc. The Wi-Fi is definitely an added perk for the gamers. The Washington based Xbox 360 company had a busiest month after they released the famous game Halo 3 in September 2007. Therefore, for Microsoft’s Xbox, it was one of the most successful seasons recently. Another major player in the gaming arena, the Sony’s Playstation 3 saw a jump of 85% in June making a total sale of 304,800 units in June. However, the sales could not surpass the Xbox 360 by Microsoft.

As for Nintendo, June was a month of profits for the Wii consoles. The company accounted a 16% rise in the sales of the Nintendo Wii consoles compared to the year gone by. The company in U.S sold 422,500 Wii consoles in the month of June. But the Nintendo’s DS hand held video games saw a huge decline in sales after a Japanese company named ‘Kyoto’ announced the launch of new hand held video game that would be equipped with three cameras and a wireless connection. The video game will have a 3D screen and would display 3D images without the use of special glasses. ‘Kyoto’ announced that these video games would be available by March 2011. Hence, the Nintendo’s hand held video games may see a further decline in sales in coming months.

The U.S markets saw a decline in the purchase of games too. The game sales fell by 15% in June 2010 that accounted to about $531 million market. The reason behind the weak sales is assumed that the major game publishers have held the release of the new games for the second half of the year. The decision is influenced by the fact that the launch of a game in the second half of the year gets better sales and profits.

US Fostering Internet Freedom

In January, Secretary of State Hillary Rodman Clinton spoke strongly about her support for Internet freedom and said, “”We stand for a single Internet where all of humanity has equal access to knowledge and ideas. And we recognize that the world’s information infrastructure will become what we and others make of it.”

After that, the State Department decided to bring the issue of online freedom to the front in its diplomacy around the world and has joined the Internet providers and social media companies so they can foster public-private partnership in Internet freedom. Collaborations such are these are important because authoritarian regimes very often contract out the daily work of censorship for private companies.

Even Congress has showed their commitment to openness online due to their allocation of $35 million in funding between the year 2009 and 2010 budgets for work that aims to promote Internet freedom. This money has not been spent yet but the State Department finally has sent the names of designated recipients of the 2009 budget of $5 million in Internet freedom funding to Congress so they can finally approve them and can soon begin the process of distributing this year’s grants.

As the movement pushes forth on this very vital issue, the State Department has to consider carefully determining how best they can spend the limited resources. Of course there is no direct way to guarantee the freedom they want to attain on the Internet. But it is possible for great good to be done with the available funds. The impact investing in censorship-circumvention techniques like those that have powered Tehran’s “twitter revolution” in June 2009 will certainly be incredible.

Authoritarian Effect on Internet Freedom

The best known provider of this software is the Falun Gong-affiliated Global Internet Freedom consortium and users behind China’s Great Firewall may think to mistrust the technology of a group their government has banned. Although this solution is not without its problems, the State Department should consider seriously the channeling of funds to organizations that have demonstrated great potential to make a difference.

The State Department is starting to attempt a more holistic approach to Internet freedom by spreading the funds across a variety of projects. By monitoring the efficacy of these chosen solutions and rewarding those that produce the wanted results will be necessary as this program persists.

Once there is a cyberspace without walls or barriers, people can assemble and express themselves freely without the fear of censorship or imprisonment. This will definitely make the world safer for the United States and for democracies everywhere. The continued public-private partnership, prioritization of Internet freedom in diplomacy and the wise deployment of allocated funds will move this ideal closer to actuality.

US Spreads Chaos Through the Internet: China

There has been a new claim heard from a Chinese government think tank that not only U.S but some other or most of the Western countries use Facebook, YouTube and other social networks just to create and sow unrest in this world and political atmosphere. It is not for the first time since many years such comments have been passed by Chinese government and different think tanks about USA. This time they have decided to fight upon social networks where you can grab attention of public very easily and with less effort.

They want more security of popular sites:

This Chinese think tank not only claims that but also demands the more high level and stepped up security of popular sites where a lot of social and personal data is available. According to Fox News; China’s government that is basically a communist government is highly concerned about the sensitive security issues and threads that have been raised against their authority on the internet. Media is highly scrutinized in China but as for as social networks are concerned they are still open for discussion to people. Although, they are planning to put more security threads on many social networks as well.

Blockage of Social sites but it never works against proxy servers:

It has been observed that many social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube are banned and blocked by China’s government in a routine manner but in today’s world such thing don’t work for a long time because people can easily jump across the great wall of China blockage against social networks with the help of Proxy servers.

Demands of China’s Communist Think tank:

It has been said by the think tank that we need to put more security measures and risk threats to state security as social networking websites are getting popular day by day that can cause a great security risk to the country. They say that,” we must try to step up supervision of Social networking sites as soon as possible.”

In their report they highlighted many U.S. officials who say that social networking is a really “invaluable tool” to overthrow foreign governments and to play games against them. They have also quoted U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates, saying that new communication technology is a “huge strategic asset”. The report also contain many other thing for example they quote further that social networking sites are used highly by official to create political unrest and as a tool of political subversion especially in the mass protest that caused in last Iranian elections that were held last year.

So many other things have also been mentioned in this report and they also blamed U.S officials to play a role in violence in China’s far-western region of Xinjiang in last summer. In this incident about 200 people were died. They blame overseas groups located in social websites to exaggerate people to raise voice for freedom who are traditionally Muslims. So thing are not looking like stop here unless or until some serious negotiations are done from both sides.

Sheils Contests the Statement that “the US is ruling the mobile world”

News telecasted on BBC claimed that US was ruling the mobile world. This story was reported by Maggie Shiels .After going into detail, it was clarified that the reporter was actually contesting this claim as she was in disagreement with the statement. This story was in response to the Chief Technology Officer working at AT&T, John Donovan. He stated that the US comes first on the list when people talk about phones, their designs and operating systems. Mr. Donovan was unwilling to give further explanation to his statement when the media raised questions. However, his assistant has promised to provide all the details, which are yet to be disclosed. The environment for an open debate is generating and everyone is looking forward to it.

Who is to Judge?

How valid is this statement? Rationally, no expert has the ability to estimate the level of advancement in one country while living in another. Exceptions can be made for the people who have the privilege of travelling to numerous countries. In this case, a person’s claim is only valid if that person has lived in countries that are leading in the mobile industry. Now, talking about Maggie Shiels, it is worth mentioning that she has spent ample time in both the US and the UK and is consequently very aware of the issues related to both locations. Her report on this matter makes this fact very evident. She has pinpointed the areas where the US is still lagging behind and where work is needed in order for it to be on top of the list.

Irrational claim

For instance, take Iran. They have recently claimed that they had sent a number of live animals into the space through their rocket science program. To many, this is a big step while others may not see why it is overwhelmingly surprising. Russians and Americans did something similar about fifty years back. The difference however was that they were sending human beings to space and not animals. Now, after knowing all these facts, it will be quite inconsistent to make claims that Iran is ruling the space race. No doubt, it is worth appreciating the development that Iran has showed in the special science, but they are far behind from being in the lead. The most common criteria for determining and comparing the environment of mobile telecom is the mobile subscription rate, measured in per capita percentage. In the recent records, this value is 93% in the US, which is no doubt a remarkable rate. However, the Western European stats show the figure of this stat to be approximately 130%. The criteria for determining who leads the mobile industry are still yet to be made. Before these criteria have been developed, the US cannot make any claims that it is leading in the industry.

Locked horns google and peoples republic of China.

Google is fighting against Chinese censors to get its goal, the risks escalating, day after day, into a possible US-China showdown over cyber warfare. The situation is going to worsen.

China is the larger producer of most products all over the world, and now the unprecedented scale of Chinese attacks versus U.S.A. defence and commercial systems put the world quiet at risk. The attack begun on Gmail accounts of human rights activists, which is a fragile point of the Chinese government. China seemed determinate and ready for a full scale attack, which Google said had partly prompted its threat to leave China. Google is going to do a very big step, because the Chinese market is the largest in the world, but Google added that this problem was “probably insignificant”, if you compared it with the “theft” of source code and data from Google.

Probably 33 or 34 other leading technology companies are in danger at the moment, said a consultant briefed about the cyber attacks. What’s going on? The details coincided with claims that The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had tracked a lot of attacks during last year, we are talking about more than 90,000 Chinese-originated attacks against the Defence Department. It’s a huge amount of problems here and everybody has to be concerned about that. Saying it with flowers … a Chinese Google user leaves a bouquet at the net giant’s Beijing headquarters yesterday. Watching around the globe we can see how the biggest Australian mining companies are refusing to negotiate iron ore contracts on the China soil because of Chinese security agency intrusions, not a lot time ago, at Rio Tinto. That problem culminated in the arrest of one of the most important figure in that deal, the China executive, Stern Hu. However, China seems to think that it can do whatever it wants at the present moment, but is it really like that? Greg Walton is a security development fellow, he works at the Citizen Lab, University of Toronto, and he said that a series of intelligence leaks implied: ”there are a lot of problems at the moment, something big is going on, which is not being reported at the moment”. Which is the problem with these guys? Maybe China has now pulled ahead on offensive operations, because US intelligence is geared in a very different way.

At the eyes of China the 5 big, which are: US, UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand are doing something strange with their intelligence alliance and maybe China is not completely wrong. For example, one of the largest US company, hardly forbids employees from transporting communication equipment into Chinese soil, including laptops and smart phones. All this because of security concerns.

We have to think if China would do the same against us. The person in charge of this operation, a consultant who was briefed on the Gmail attacks seemed worried about this problem and he said that at least 34 companies, including many big firm like: Adobe, Symantec and Yahoo!, had been affected. Many big names are implicated in this big trouble, like another two companies: Northrop Grumman and Dow Chemical. What do you think is going on?
