Google and ITA Software have signed an acquisition deal recently. The deal is still under process of approval and authorization. Yet the news has caused quiet a lot of excitement and curiosity in the tech world. Some find it completely irrational while others believe this could turn out to be something out of the ordinary. But before getting into that, for those who are not sure, let’s take a brief look at what exactly is ITA Software.

ITA provides IT solution to Air lines

ITA Software was founded by a group of computer scientists from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in mid 90’s. The company specializes in providing IT solutions and services for the industry of Air Travel. The famous QPX software tool is used by many well known airlines for organizing fight information. Some of these airlines include Alaska Airlines, Continental Airlines, American Airlines, Hotwire, US Airways, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic Airways and others. Not only airlines but certain flight search engines use it as well, such as Kayak, Bing Travel etc. ITA Software, Inc. is well known for its extraordinary services in this field. The features for Google

Now let’s have a look at what the people have to say about this unexpected agreement. Google Inc. has acquired ITA Software Inc. with a total sum of $700 million in cash. Eric Schmidt, the CEO and Chairman of Google Inc., believes that air travel and search together can turn into something facilitative and worth investing on at the same time. In his words “perfect opportunity for more innovation, more investment and more interesting products.” The comments by both Eric Schmidt and Jeremy Wertheimer, ITA’s founder and CEO, were just as uncertain as the public about this affiliation and future plans, at the call conference with analysts and reporters.

Expert’s stand

While these two seem pretty confident, some others think otherwise. The Vice President and principal analyst at Forrester Research says that such a system “is certainly not core to what Google is about.”

According to another source “ITA is very talented team which has created an impressive product to organize flight information,” said Eric Schmidt, Chairman and CEO of Google. “Their technology opens exciting possibilities for us to create new ways for users to more easily find flight information online, and we’re looking forward to welcoming them to Google.”

Stand of ITA software

“It is a privilege to work with a most skilled and dedicated team to build innovative technologies that people use every day,” said Jeremy Wertheimer, CEO & President, ITA Software, Inc. “We are all looking forward to continuing and expanding our efforts as part of Google.”

Well what more could be said. With this new step taken by Google, who knows what is up next for the world to see. And with so many hopes tied up it would be just best to wish them good luck, with whatever they have up their sleeve.
