Microsoft® Silverlight integration for Windows®

Several web browsers are nowadays available to surf the Internet with great ease. With the advancements in web technologies, it has become quite easy to watch videos or listen music online. Various websites provide support for playing games online. The advancement of such capabilities of web browsers is due to the background coding. If you connect your web browser to Internet it updates the necessary files needed for its smooth operation. These files are the update files that are needed to provide a more advance platform for the browser.

Online technologies for web browsers are supported by the background codecs of the browser. These codecs install necessary files for the browser to run advance applications. Sometimes you may have seen the message that a codec is needed to play the file. Such messages are generated by the browser to upgrade its functionality. Most of the codecs are already provided by the web browsers. An extension to a codec integrates files necessary to run the latest applications on a web browser.

One such extension for the codec of web browser is Silverlight. It provides a cross-platform implementation for the .NET Framework. Silverlight was basically developed by Microsoft for next generation media experiences on web. It provides Rich Interactive Applications (RIA) for web. Silverlight integrates with almost all types of browsers. It can be integrated with Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari and so on. To integrate Silverlight with your web browser a small plug-in is needed to be installed. This plug-in installs very easily and quickly.

The latest news about Silverlight is that a native extension is now available. The extension provided for Silverlight is now applicable for native users of Windows 7. It consists of a set of libraries that support Windows 7 features including taskbar and jump lists. This extension helps in connecting the devices attached to a system like webcam, microphone and any other input sensor devices.  Silverlight extension give a set of codecs to the web browser. With the help of these codec technologies, the web browser becomes more efficient for offering a multimedia rich experience.

The new extension provided by Silverlight is based on the existing features. It also provides COM automation wrappers for the users of Windows 7 APIs. API stands for application programming interface and it is a native environment on which the extension is applied. This means that developers of Silverlight are able to create applications that can be integrated with the desktop of Windows 7 and local hardware.

Right now, the Silverlight extensions are applicable to Windows 7 only. These extensions will not work with Windows XP. The extensions of Silverlight running in browsers still have the common set of features on Windows and Mac operating systems.

Google™ Chrome 10: A Feature Breakdown

Google Chrome is an advanced web browser that was launched by Google. The design of Google Chrome is based on the WebKit layout engine and application framework. It was first released as a beta version for Microsoft Windows on September 2, 2008. On December 11, 2008, the public stable version of Google Chrome was released.

Google managed to be the first to implement and release to the public various innovative features, announced by various browser developers worldwide. The Google Chrome as per reports of various analysts featured to be the highest in application performance and processing speeds. The Google Chrome browser, as of date, also stands to be one of the most secure browsers available, with minimum vulnerabilities. The most interesting part of the Chrome browser, has been the ‘Private’ feature which did not allow cookies or history to be stored by the browser.

After a series of versions, since its introduction in September 2008, Google has introduced Google Chrome 10, with various new features and security measures incorporated. Existing users of Google Chrome automatically get updated to the new version as and when Google Chrome is accessed after the launch of the new version. Google Chrome is actually one of the most stable browsers in the arena today.

The password management feature to the browser’s data, the all new Pass Phrase based encryption using a cryptographic key, generated from your own Google account password or a special Pass Phrase of your choice or generation of an original new password, using typical Apps like Last Pass, make the Google Chrome data encryption and syncing really unique. Google Chrome 10 also runs on highly improved code. The JavaScript speed has been increased phenomenally. The revamped Crankshaft JavaScript engine when released in December was supposed to be about 50 percent faster. As of now, with the Google Chrome 10 implementation, Google claims a 66 percent faster engine. Google’s Crankshaft uses adaptive compilation, identifying important code and optimizing that code as needed. Crankshaft includes four basic components: in addition to a base compiler, there is a runtime profile that identifies hot code, and an optimizing compiler that recompiles the hot code to offer such optimizations as loop-invariant code motion, linear-scan register allocation, and in-lining. Google provides de-optimization support that identifies cases where the optimizing compiler has promised, well, too much optimization. In this case, the engine falls back on the base compiler. Google Chrome also has an innovative feature called SandBox, a contained environment or a browser SandBox, preventing your computer getting infected from malware and other security threats.

Mozilla® Firefox 4 Gets ‘Do Not Track’ feature

Web browsers are used for accessing the Internet. They are software applications meant for retrieving, analyzing, and interchanging information resources on the web. Mozilla Firefox is a very popular browser. Mozilla Firefox was the result of an open source project and is owned by Mozilla Foundation. It has great features like session storage, which allows a user to recover access to the open tabs after a user has closed the browser window. It has a feature in which a user can open multiple tabs in a single window.

The latest version f this browser is Mozilla Firefox 4, which is considered to be safe and stable for Internet browsing. It is based on the Gecko 2.0 web platform and it is available in 57 languages as well as it has a brand new appearance for Windows Vista and Windows 7 users. It has numerous features. The web is developing rapidly and so are the ways that your data is composed, shared and stored. Now with the introduction of the Do Not Track option in Mozilla Firefox, a user will be able to ensure a Do Not Track box in the advanced screen of Firefox’s options. If a user selects this option a header must be sent signaling to websites that user wishes to select online behavioral tracking. The user will not be able to see any difference while browsing until the advertisers and promotional or other sites starts giving feedback to the header.

Firefox’s new Do Not Track feature works when Firefox user enables Do Not Track (DNT) header within browser. Then after the browsers sends DNT header to a website that responds by providing content. Finally advertisers respond by placing non-personalized ads & logs user’s activity anonymously. Do Not Track privacy feature is meant to stop online advertisers from monitoring user’s online activity. Mozilla’s Do Not Track feature relies on an HTTP header that signals to ad companies that a user doesn’t want to be tracked.

Mozilla suggests an opt-in mechanism for users, which would allow them to select out of tracking feature in the browser. The Do Not Track information will then be sent by Firefox to a content server that also hosts tracking advertising. The ad server then replies with ads that are not personalized and has the tracking information relating to a particular user.

What does one expect of search engines? To begin with, one needs results with relevance to the search terms entered. Google works on SEO search categories. Using different filters one can conduct searches to fetch sensible results. It is important that under an SEO search, the term entered is accurate so that you do not waste time searching alternative terms and so on. If search engines could produce results relating to the search term accurately, most of your job is done.

The advanced search dates are kept on and are available in the toolbar. While numbering the results, it uses numerals like 1, 2, 3… There is a facility for search page preview. So once you have finished entering the term for the search, it shows up a preview page with a peek at the results. GoogleEnhancer lets you refine Google search results with favorite icons which you can tag to your search results, more like a bookmark or tag used to identify the result. GoogleEnhancer enhances the search results with a direct answer to your search term. It works with Yahoo!, Bing, and Google search engines. The options available are search by date, language, and by file name. These can be used separately by selecting the required option in the search page. So you click ‘File’ menu>> ‘Tools’ >> and then ‘Options’. Click the ‘Options’ button to select your options from a list. The options available are: Load Result Favicons, highlight results, number results, time search option, language search option, file type search option, auto focus Google input box and so on. Using these search filters, one can easily specify the type search to be conducted.

For the convenience of searches conducted, there is highlighting of the search results which carry the highlights of the search term in the results page. If your search is on the basis of time, say your option is for news about GoogleEnhancer since the last week, this narrows down the search to all articles under the time period of the past one week. Since filters are useful, one could well say that the filters in the GoogleEnhancer 1.85 are good to use and are all relevant to search results fetched by the search engine.
