Microsoft® Releases Free MAP 5.5 Toolkit

Microsoft is the largest software company in the world. They have developed and launched some of the most innovative and best software. Microsoft has now launched the latest version of the Microsoft Assessment and Planning (MAP) Toolkit. Microsoft provides the MAP toolkit under the free solution for Acceleration series which is available for download on the official website of Microsoft. Previously it was available in beta form. There are several new features included in this version, like it has the ability to assess what is required for migration to Windows Azure and SQL Server.

Microsoft toolkit MAP 5.5 is compatible with other Solution Accelerator Software for example, Microsoft Deployment Toolkit and Security Compliance Manager.  MAP 5.5 is compatible with these software kits. Microsoft products like Windows and other software get the recommendation from the toolkit about the compatibility.

The MAP 5.5 checks an organization’s network for relational database management systems, web apps and servers running Internet information services to assess the Microsoft Windows Azure cloud platform’s migration possibilities. It checks for MySQL, Oracle and Sybase databases. MAP 5.5 is also used to check the hardware and software readiness for virtualization and helps in the server consolidation project. There are also several other features including the support for a number of Microsoft product migrations like switching to Microsoft Office 2010, Windows 7, SQL Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008 R2. One of the coolest features is that it can track Microsoft software licensing use across a network.

Microsoft® offers free Windows® Azure trial

For those who are not yet familiar with the new upcoming term in the world of information technology, that is, Windows Azure, here is the meaning. Windows Azure is an operating system with cloud services. It will provide an environment for development, service hosting and service management. Microsoft is targeting consumers worldwide with multilingual support and the facility to integrate with the existing on-premises environment. It comes with a host of features like on-demand computing and storage. With the emergence of Windows Azure, the users of Microsoft Visual Studio need not worry. They can use their expertise on this new web development platform as well. In addition, popular standards and protocols are supported in Windows Azure.

As announced by the company officials, Microsoft is now offering up to 750 hours free usage on its Azure service to attract developers into trying cloud computing. The company further explained that this free trial would enable the developers to use Windows Azure without putting in any up-front investment costs. The offer succeeds another important development at Microsoft, that is, the promotion of Satya Nadella as the head of its US$15 billion server and tools business that took place a few weeks ago. The company is hoping that Nadella’s attempt at ramping up large scale consumer focused cloud services would be beneficial for them.

There are two options for the trial users. The first one is usage for 750 hours and the second one is for 25 hours. The cost would not pinch on the users’ pocket with a host of benefits that they will be able to enjoy with Windows Azure. Apart from being able to use your existing skills in familiar languages like Java, PHP and .NET, you can also be assured of being supported by a system that is trustworthy, being backed by a reliable service level agreement. It also gives a high quality service experience. In addition to this, you can also focus on your competent differentiators and search for new horizons to reap benefits. So, whether you are an expert developer or just a beginner, who still enjoys the popular languages, Windows Azure is for one and all to complete their dream web projects creatively.

Microsoft Revamps Windows Azure cloud Computing

The PDC developer conference was attended with a huge pomp and show by Microsoft. But as a twist in the fate these were the days before the so called global economic slowdown and the subsequent austerity that it has packed with it.

The PDC or the Professional Developers Conference is a conference for software developers especially for the Windows developer organized by the Microsoft Corporation. It covers all the new and upcoming technology from Microsoft and in all the years it was hosted by the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, in California

In the PDC 2010, Microsoft dint think twice before using its one Redmond campus to cut down all the exhibition halls fees. It is being that the windows Phone 7 revenues were not able to filter well through the system yet.

As famously known as PDC10 it tried to invest a heavy focus on the Windows Azure clouds services operating system with developers who are being offered the opportunity to try out various enhancement Betas and Community Technology Previews or CTPs.

According to Azure it defines Windows Azure as a provider to the developers with on demand compute and storage to host, scale and also manages web applications on the internet through Microsoft data centers.

Microsoft has claimed that these latest enhancements are especially designed to make it handy and easier for the customers to run existing Windows applications on the Windows Azure cloud. The company also aims to pose Azure as a more affordable platform and also to improve the windows Azure developer experience.

The new features incorporated in the developers inside the windows azure SDK and also with Windows Azure Tools for Visual Studio release 1.3 and also through Windows Azure Management Portal.

One of the MSDN FAQs was tucked away inside as one of the latest enhancement which are detailed in full and includes the Virtual Machine role; virtual Network; elevated privileges for Web and Worker role; full IIS support; support for Windows Server 2008 R2 in the web, worker and VM role; the Windows Azure Marketplace and an improved developer and operator experience.

Microsoft has also talked about its future plans where it will be introducing improved enablement of Java, CDN (content delivery network) dynamic content caching, CDN SSL delivery, construction of VM (virtual machine) role images in the cloud, support for Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 R2 in the VM role and improved global CDN connectivity in CY2011.

In the PDC 10 the Microsoft has announced new platform features for cloud computing; VmRoles announced to port existing on-premise Applications to the Cloud; Microsoft “Dallas” renamed to Windows Azure Marketplace DataMarket; Windows Azure Marketplace Applications announced; An unlocked Windows Phone 7 Smartphone was given out to all attendees; Microsoft limited the number of attendees to 1,000; Many public viewing events all over the globe. These were the major attractions portrayed by Microsoft in the PDC developer conference.

Microsoft offers “HPC” on Azure

Azure is a Windows based cloud services operating system that serves as the development service hosting and service management environment for the Windows Azure platform, Windows Azure is a flexible platform that supports multiple languages and integrates with your existing on premises environment.

To build applications and services on Windows Azure, developers can use their existing Microsoft Visual Studio expertise in addition Windows Azure supports popular standards, protocols and languages including SOAP, XML, REST, JAVA, PHP and RUBY. Windows Azure is available now in 40 countries.

Microsoft Windows HPC server customers will soon be able to run high performance computing workloads on Windows Azure, Microsoft is announcing at this week’ SC10 super computing conference in New Orleans.

The first service pack for Windows HPC server 2008 R2, in the end of this year, Microsoft will let customers connect their on premises high performance computing systems to Windows Azure giving them on demand scale and capacity for high performance computing applications, Microsoft said.

Microsoft Windows is also providing an Azure resource for scientists that will not require an installation of Windows HPC server.

This service makes the National Center for Biotechnology information’s B last technology; it lets scientists search the human genome, available on Azure at SC10.

Microsoft said that, they will demonstrate the NCBI B last application on Windows Azure performing 100 billion comparisons of protein sequences.

This new Windows HPC service pack’s integration with Azure, In the interim, gives Microsoft what it believes is a key differentiator between it self and the likes of Amazon’s Elastic computer cloud, the ability to run super computing workloads across both in house software and over the internet on the cloud service.

The HPC software is really just a job scheduler that knows how to break up work and distribute it across a bunch of other services, integrating Windows HPC server with Azure lets a customer’s data center, talk to the Windows Azure system and spread work across the two he says, this makes sense for workloads that have large temporary spikes in calculations.

$16 Billion Profit Recorded by Microsoft

Microsoft sealed this fantastic year by increasing its wealth by $16 billion. Wall street experts were predicting that Microsoft will finish somewhere between range of $14.50 billion to $15.80 billion. Microsoft  has crossed all the expectation by their gain that is good for the company as well as overall software industry, inspite of the slow recovery. Now, large investment in development and growth of software is expected from the software makers.

Helping hands of new products:

In this financial year, Microsoft came up with their most awaited operating system ‘Windows7’. They also launched Office 10 with new features and advancements. These to products are most responsible for the achieved target as officials spotted confirming. Contribution of these two products was major. Future expectations from Microsoft are their products concerned with cloud services viz. Windows Azure. MS programmers are also working on Business Productivity Online Services that are expected to create boom in market.

Windows Vista’s failure was responsible in reduction of profit but now OS market has grown by 26 percent. As it can be seen it has major contribution in $1 billion growth of revenue.

After the success of previous Windows Phones, now Microsoft is busy with creation of Windows Phone7 that is expected in near future. This new phone along with gaming console Xbox Kinect will surely add more to their net profit. Higher royalty costs of Xbox Live are also responsible for the growth. Out of total growth, gaming division reserves 30 percent. Terminating production of Kin smartphones has also increased overall profit of Devices Division. It has recorded increase of $251 billion, which is almost 38 percent of previous.

Analysis by MS experts shows tremendous growth in PC markets also. Growth of around 24 percent has been recorded in this field that is twice of what was expected. MS is very well concerned about the emerging market of Tablet PCs and might invest in it on large scale. Officials confirmed that there are still many areas of industry where they are keen to set benchmark.

How other companies stand:

It has been proved to be great financial year for tech industry. Almost all big giants have recorded their personal best. One of the best microprocessor developers Intel has recorded most profitable quarter. PC shipments were up by 22 percent this quarterly as shown by IDC data.

When Apple crossed MS earlier, it was expected that they would maintain the lead till end. If it would have happened, it was the very first time MS was falling behind Apple in quarterly revenue. The scenario changed completely when Microsoft crossed $15.7 billion revenue of Apple Inc. and became topper of the market.

This entire scenario proves the strength of Microsoft in software field and now users will expect more developments from them for sure.

Windows Azure Appliance Sets it Apart from VMware and Cisco

Microsoft Punches Cisco, VMware in the eyes with Windows Azure Appliance

Windows Azure Appliance, which Microsoft announced recently, will combine Windows Azure and SQL Azure in such a way that service providers, large companies and governments will be able to use them in own datacenters. This cloud platform will utilise multiple servers, whose specifics will be given by Microsoft. However, the network, storage and hardware resources will be provided by partners. The appliance also undertakes Cisco’s UCS product, which was the cause of HP’s recent alienation.
This is exactly why the powerful partners in the face of HP, Dell and Fujitsu, who desire their users to work in a 100% ‘Cisco-less’ environment, present a strong competitor to the Cisco-VMware-EMC joint product Acadia Vblock. This product offers server, storage and visualization, but not implementation with a specific cloud service.

Cisco vs. Microsoft

In recent years, Cisco aims to grow by entering new markets, since it has its own market for Ethernet networking tools. It has joined Microsoft’s opposition in many ways besides Acadia, which include Nexus 1000V, operated within VMware and supporting Hyper-V, and VN-Link, which as of last month will be implemented within Red Hat Enterprise KVM Virtualization.

However, Microsoft is only partially interested in the datacenter. In the words of Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, the motivation is to bring rich clients and cloud services to the enterprise users and keep them happy. For him the advantage lies in the big clients, regardless whether the cloud will work locally, on a standard infrastructure or on an intelligent and more capable OS or device. Microsoft will support all client scenarios but without forgetting to maintain the software smart, but easy to manage.

The essence of a cloud appliance

This notion brings mixed opinions. It is good to have intelligent devices, which combine multiple tasks, such as phone calls, document editors and web browsers. But in terms of cloud services, we would like to preserve the small clients, who would need for example only a browser and some networks (3G/4G, WiFi, LANs/WAN), because having more important clients could lead to the paradox of TV’s and phones needing the maintenance of a Windows PC.

Details on the price and actual form of Windows Azure appliance are still very scarce. Although it was reported that a Windows Azure appliance will be run by Dell by January 2011, there is no mention of availability for enterprise purchase. Still, Microsoft insists that it has signed eBay as user, who supposedly will use the platform for applications such as auctions, whereas HP plans to run the service within their own premises. The appliance will probably be bigger than the average 2U rack device, which we call an “appliance”, since it would consist of several servers and network hardware in one place.
