Microsoft has recently announced the beta version of its new Desktop Management termed “Windows Intune for small and medium businesses.” Through the help of the web, Windows Intune provides management and security services to Windows PCs. Other software or tools that provide desktop management and security to computers need a server to perform the operations.

The Desktop Management tool from Microsoft’s, Windows Intune has been design to cater desktop management and security to up to 25 to 500 computers in an organization. The desktop management and security provided by the all-in-one Windows Intune software includes features like:

Along with these features, using Windows Intune software can prove to be beneficial, as each machine that is managed by the Windows Intune, can be upgraded to Windows 7 Enterprise. Also Windows Intune license provides access to the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) which can provide improved group policy management and the MED-V virtualization system along with the more advanced diagnostic capabilities.

There will be no need to update the software, as it will be updated automatically. With the help of the Windows Intune software, desktop management of any machine that has Windows operating system installed on it and has an Internet connection can be done with the help of any Windows machine that has an Internet access.

The beta version of Windows Intune will be limited and will be available to only 1,000 customers in US, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico and can be used for management of up to 20 desktops.

Lastly, the last date for signing up for the Windows Intune is 16th May, 2010. However, Windows Intune will be commercially available on a monthly subscription basis within a year. Microsoft has not revealed any information regarding the cost of Windows Intune.
