In the past decade, with new and improved technology, listening to music, staying in touch with friends, watching videos via Internet has become inevitable. With the launch of a new technology, one thinks what’s next! Similarly Archos has added to the much excitement by launching its new home tablet.

Whether you are in the kitchen preparing a meal for your loved ones; in the garden watering the plants; having a coffee at a table, you can enjoy the luxury of surfing the net, listening to the music, watching videos, chatting with your friends or even glancing through the photos all in the Archos home tablet.

Archos has announced the Home Tablet in two different versions – Archos 7 and Archos 8 Home Tablets, which will be released in the US market next month (June 2010).

Some of the features of the Archos home tablet are as follows:

  • 7-inch touch screen
  • Wi-Fi connectivity
  • 2GB and 8GB Flash memory
  • Weighs approximately 350g and measures just 12mm thick.
  • Battery is good for up to 7hrs of video playback or 44hrs of audio playback.
  • Multiple connectivity to devices such as PC, digital camera and USB.

The Archos 8 Home Tablet packs many of the same features into a 8-inch touch screen and is also 12mm thick. The tablet offers 4 GB of storage with a video camera integrated into the top of the frame bezel. The weight of Archos 8 shifts up slightly, to under 400g.  It, too, is positioned for Internet access and media playback. Another feature that is offered in Archos 8 Home Tablet is of a family calendar which helps the family to keep in touch.

Above all, the two devices are €149 ($200 approximately), making them reasonably easy on the consumer’s pocket. With the introduction of the two Android Applications, Archos has taken the home portability to a whole new level. The Home Tablet bridges the gap between the Smartphone and the desktop PC. You can always have access to the web, email, photo, video and a dedicated library of Android Applications enabling users to customize the device to their lifestyle.

However the Archos home tablet has got mixed review from the public. Some are disappointed that Archos Home Tablet does not play .avi files. This can be a disappointment for some music lovers, but if you are looking for a complete package of features, style, looks and still be reasonably cheap, then the Archos Home Tablet is your next big leap forward!
