Mac users around the world jumped with excitement when Apple announced launch of its Airport Extreme Base Station. Airport Extreme Base station is one of the fastest networking devices available in the market.  It uses the latest wireless standard 802.11n. Though a networking device, you will not see any external antennas protruding out of the device. The Airport Extreme Base Station is equipped with three internal antennas which are capable of transmitting and receiving multiple data streams simultaneously. The Airport Extreme Base Station has simple setup which ensures that MAC user will not have networking headaches while setting up a wireless network with this new device. Even a novice user will be able to set up a network with Airport Extreme Base Station. Let’s take a closer look at what the device has to offer.

The new Apple Airport Extreme Base Station is twice faster than its predecessor. Apple’s new networking device has the capability to support dual band Wi-Fi simultaneously. Besides, this device also features a three Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports and one Gigabit Ethernet WAN port that can be used to transfer data between computers installed at the location.  The device can be easily compared with other premium wireless routers offered in market by other manufacturers.

The new Apple Airport Extreme Base Station supports LAN with Macs as wells as PCs.  The installation and managing of the device is quite simple. It supports guest networking. Apple has focused more on bandwidth management while designing and developing this device. This approach is bit surprising when Apple’s rival manufactures are more obsessed in providing Wi-Fi capabilities that can cover more distance and area.  Airport Extreme Base station user can control the range of the device network and limit the device network within a single room, if required.

The device allows user to create a closed network and hide the existence and name of the network.  User who needs to access the network will need to know the name and password of the network before accessing any frequency on the network.  The router provides a single IP address when connected to Internet. This characteristic prevents unauthorized access of other networked devices that are connected to Airport Extreme Base Station.

Apple’s Airport Extreme Base station is way ahead from it counterparts when it comes to security. The router features excellent security features seldom found in other similar devices. The Airport Extreme provides highest level of encryption known as WPA2. The Wi-Fi protected Access is offered in two different modes.  The WPA personal mode authenticates the user by validating network passwords while the WPA Enterprise mode uses the advanced RADIUS (Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service method) to authenticate users. The device also supports 40 and 128-bit wired Equivalency Privacy.

The Airport Extreme Base station comes with utility software for Macs as well as PCs. The utility will set up the router with recommended settings. You can set the network with or without encryption and also allow access to the network with or without passwords. The setup interface of Airport Extreme Base Station is a good example and model of organization and simplicity.
