The next step is to activate your Subscriber Identity Module and subscribe for the mobile broadband service. Your service provider can effectively guide you through the process.

If the data card is external, ensure that it is prperly connected to your system and the wireless network switch if any present is turned ON. It might be present if you are using a laptop. Usually it is found on the front side, though it may differ from model to model.

To Setup the Connection follow the following steps

  1. Click the network icon in the notifications area to reach to the ‘Connect to a network’ tab.
  2. Select your mobile broadband and click Connect.
  3. If asked for, you have to provide the APN (Access Point Name), username and password. They are easily available from your service provider.
  4. Change any autoconnect settings you disapprove of and click Continue.

To Change the mobile broadband connection profile properties

  1. Click the network icon in the notifications area to reach to the ‘Connect to a network’ tab.
  2. Go to the profile tab in the properties of your broadband connection.
  3. Change the properties as required.
  4. Type in the APN (Access Point Name) or access string, the user name and the password. Your service provider can help you with the connection profile settings.
  5. Under the autoconnect option, select one of the following:
    • Always connect automatically.
    • Connect automatically except roaming.
    • Never connect automatically.
  6. If you are to choose from multiple connections to the internet, you can check the Autoconnect only if no other alternate Internet connection is available checkbox.
  7. Click OK.

    Note: The profile won’t be available if a network has not been set up. You must set up a network first.

    To Change the broadband connection roaming properties (Network selection)

    1. Click the network icon in the notifications area to reach to the ‘Connect to a network’ tab.
    2. Go to the roaming tab in the properties of your broadband connection.(This tab is available only in Roaming condition.)
    3. Select autoselect to let windows choose the best network for you.
    4. You can also specify the network from a list and then click register.(The default option is autoselect, so in case of any error in connection it reverts to auto select.)

    To Connect to a Mobile broadband connection

    1. Go to the profile tab in the properties of your broadband connection.
    2. Select the network of your choice and then click connect.
    3. You may have to type your Mobile Broadband PIN to continue.

    To Disconnect from a Mobile broadband connection

    1. Go to the profile tab in the properties of your broadband connection.
    2. Select the network of your choice and then click Disconnect.
