World of Warcraft is a popular PC game and often referred as WoW. The game is developed by Blizzard Entertainment, subsidiary of Activision Blizzard. WoW is a massively online role-playing multiplayer game.
The first expansion of the game was The Burning Crusade, released on January 16, 2007. The second expansion set, make a great change in the game play and known as Wrath of the Lich King, released on November 13, 2008. Now the latest expansion of the game is still awaited. The third expansion is known as Cataclysm, announced at BlizzCon 2009, and will be going to release on December 7, 2010. The WoW game has more than 12 million subscribers in the month of October 2010. Currently, World of Warcraft is the world’s most online subscribed multiplayer game and it holds the Guinness World Record for most popular online multiplayer game. In April 2008, the World of Warcraft game was estimated to hold about 62 percent of the total multiplayer online gaming subscription market.
World of Warcraft Cataclysm is the third major update for the astoundingly popular multiplayer online role-playing game. On December 7, 2010, it will be officially released. It is titled as Cataclysm; the expansion alters the game environment to a great extent. The new addition of game play and the game environment includes quests, races, addition to throwing in new regions, learnable skills and player vs. player battlegrounds. The previous two releases of World of Warcraft expansions had already sold millions of copies and dominated the PC and Mac gaming sales. This game has more even more than 11 million monthly subscribers that makes it the most popular online subscription-based video game in the world. The game play of Cataclysm is expected to make a big event, too. Among the new add-ons in the game, the playable fantasy races are quite interesting. The former of the game will join the game’s Horde faction and latter will be the part of Alliance. The previous races will be able to adopt classes. For example, the Undead can be Hunters and the Night Elves can be Mages.
The biggest alteration made in the game is about its graphical interface. This release of WoW is greatly enriched with graphics with every minute detail of the graphics. While, In the storyline, an evil awakens in sea and wreaks havoc on two old continents, Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms. Therefore, emphasis will be on the content of early game with brand new characters. This is a departure from the previous two expansions that focuses on high-level quests and raids. Apart from this WoW is a milestone in Social Gaming. World of Warcraft players can socialize themselves within virtual organizations called the guilds. For example, defeat of an epic boss (who can wipe out small groups of the players easily). Guilds to this game will make some big improvements in Cataclysm.
