Crysis 2 is an upcoming first person shooter game which is published by Electronic arts and developed by Crytek. It will be released on Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It is a sequel to the very popular game Crysis that was released in 2007.
Crysis 2 was expected to be released towards the end of the year. However, it was announced by Electronic Arts that the game would be delayed into 2011. Earlier there was no notice from Crytek and the sales figure report from EA had stated that the game would release along with Dead Space 2, Dragon Age 2 and Bulletstorm. But at a later date, it was messaged by Crytek on Twitter announcing the new release date of Crysis 2, which is March 22, 2011 in North America. In Europe, the release date would be March 25. Although Crysis 2 was supposed to release this holiday, its release was postponed possibly because of a high concentration of releases at the same time. It was declared by John Schappert that the game was delayed for a better window and polishing.
Crytek has managed to come up with a graphics engine that can run on both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, thereby making it the first installment in the franchise to appear on consoles. The earlier titles introduced by Crytek that were Crysis and Crysis: Warhead were regarded as benchmarks for PC gaming , as they not only had impressive visuals but also required very high system requirements. This time, the new gaming software will move to an urban setting in New York from a tropical jungle.
The creators have promised that this time the new game will have software with low system requirements than its original. They have also said that it is the only title that would be able to run in 3D on all the three platforms which it is being released in. crytek has decided to show a demonstration of the multiplayer component of Crysis 2 which will be during the Gamescom 2010 in Koln, Germany.
For those unaware of the plot, it is set in the New York City in the year 2023. The city has been evacuated because of alien invasion. It revolves around a Delta force operator ‘Alcatraz’ who is the successor of Nomad from the previous game. He steals the Nanosuit 2 from the Crynet systems as a result of which they start a manhunt for him.
The game is also expected to give the users more freedom in tackling situations with more advanced lethal weapons. The urban environment provides options in planning and progressing with attacks. The aliens are meaner than ever before and have undergone major redesigning.
Although the wait is going to be long enough, let us hope that it would at least result in a more polished and amazing final product. It is expected to bring cutting age graphics accompanied by an engrossing multiplayer, thus proving to more a more than value for money kind of deal.
