Video games are now no longer exclusive to humans only. Robots are also all set to make their mark and are joining in at the one of a kind video game contest at the FIRST Robotics Competition.

The FIRST Robotics Competition will be held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. More than 60 robotics team will be participating in this unique competition, where they will be using XBOX 360 Kinect controllers to compete in “Rebound Rumble” format. During the first day of the event, the alliance team members will avail of the option to supplement their robots’ autonomous routines to gain better control. The first 15 seconds will be vital to the players as the intricate combination of XBOX 360 Kinect and the alliance robot will form a Hybrid. Here, the driver will be able to gain control over a series of motion. After 15 seconds, the usual controls will be resumed where the alliance driver will be able to help the team. “(The) technology has so much potential uses beyond the living room. I’m very much looking forward to seeing what (the teams) do with it with (their) robots at the FIRST Robotics Competition,” said Alex Kipman, GM, Hardware Incubation for XBOX, Microsoft.

The Robotics Competition will take place from March 16 to March 18, 2012. To understand the concept in a better way, watch the video below.
