The market is abuzz with rumors that Apple is set to introduce iPad HD along with iPad2. Steve Jobs, Apple CEO has already mentioned that the year 2011 will be the year of iPad 2. Market Analyst believes Apple Inc may have plans to introduce a revised version of iPad with sharper screen dubbed as iPad HD. The iPad HD would feature a 9.7” inch display with a 2048×1536 resolution. The device will be targeted to Pro users. Market experts believe that there is no base for such rumors and they don’t see Apple launching such device any soon. Here are five question people need to ask themselves who expect Apple launching iPad HD. The answers to this question may be enough to quell such rumors.
1. Why would Apple hurry into offering another 9.7-inch iPad so soon?
If Apple introduces any device such as iPad HD in 2011, it would only irk its customers who have recently purchased iPad2. iPad2 is clearly the leader in its segment and the sales of iPad2 are far better than larger Android tablets. iPad2 is clearly the leader in terms of technology and also in terms of price in its segment.
It would be an intelligent business decision, if Apple decides to introduce an iPad mini which can compete with 7-inch tablets from rival manufacturers. Also, the rumor about iPad HD is baseless as Apple Inc generally would name its premium version as iPad Pro. Besides, market experts believe, Apple Inc may soon announce launch of iPad 3 in March which can have screen with higher pixel density.
2. Is the screen technology available for production?
An iPad HD would need a screen with higher pixel density. LG, which provides displays to Apple devices is currently in the process of developing a 9.7” inch display that will offer 1.5 to 2 times brighter resolution than LCD panels. This means the screen technology is not yet available for production.
3. Does Apple or other manufacturer have a chip that would be required for such high resolution display?
A HD resolution display will need a powerful chip. The iPad 2 uses the Apple A5 chip and integrated power of PowerVR SGX 543MP2 GPU which will not be sufficient for a 2048×1536 pixels display which is 4 times bigger than current iPad2 display. A high resolution display will also need a powerful battery. The iPad 4 does not have an impressive battery life despite the fact it has a 1024×768 display.
4. What purpose will the ultra high display resolution serve?
The pictures, movies and videos might look sharper on HD screen. But the viewing the content on a HD screen also means it is going to need a good battery life. Apple will not risk introducing a device which has lesser battery life than its predecessors.
5. How reliable is the source that predicts about Apple Inc product development?
The rumor was initiated by Joshua Topolosky in thisismynext .com while talking before launch of iPad2. Joshua Topolosky is the former editor-in-chief of Engadget.
If you look at the answers to the questions, you will see it is nothing but a rumor that goes in with the trend with other rumors related to Apple Inc and its unique products.
