The Asus Eee PC series
The Asus Eee PC is a netbook computer line by Asus and a part of the Asus Eee product family. It was first introduced in late 2007. Soon it became very popular for its combination of a light weight, Linux operating system, solid-state drive and relatively low cost. After this, new models were released which had the option of Windows XP operating system and traditional hard disk drives. This series of Asus immediately hit the chord with the masses and became the talk of the town owing to its comparatively low cost.
The Asus Eee series new launches
After the launch of this series in the late 2007, Asus launched a new Eee PC netbook. However, it has been a while since the customers received a new model from the Asus family. The users have been waiting with anticipation to experience new models from Asus. Interestingly there had been no announcement from Asus about the new models until recently when it launched the Eee PC 1201K model and we had the first look at it. This model is full of surprises as a lot has been changed in the hardware compared to the previous models.
Processor changed AMD in, Intel out
We are all aware of the long association of Asus motherboards and Intel processors. All the previous models of the Eee PC series had Intel’s familiar Atom family processor. But surprisingly Asus has changed the processor in this particular series and has introduced the Eee PC 1201K model with AMD Geode NX 1750 processor with a SiS 741GX/966L chipset. All the previous models of this series have an Intel’s Atom processor.
The Eee PC 1201K model has the following specifications :-
• It has a Windows XP Home as the operating system.
• It includes a 320GB hard drive.
• It also has a VGA web cam.
• It also includes a built-in card reader.
• It contains 1GB of RAM.
• It includes a 12.1″ LED backlit WXGA display (1366×768).
• It also has Blue tooth 2.1+EDR.
• It contains VGA port, two USB 2.0 ports,
• It also includes Ethernet, audio in/out, and a 6-cell battery.
Asus has still not revealed the price of this model or the date of release of this product. This combination of Asus with AMD is not something that we get to see in most of the products. It is an exclusive and rare combination. What the pros and the cons are will only be out after we get to use this product. It will be available in 2 colors, Black and Silver. To conclude, there is only one thing which we can say, though Asus has made us wait for a long time for this new product we must say that it has come out with something to look forward to.
