Few companies are using SD-based camcorders with and unbelievable thin designs, simply because this technologies allow the possibility to built much compact models than the old camcorder based on DV, hard disks or the worst kind of support: mini DVDs. While Canon is not stopping to offer compact AVCHD camcorders, the Vixia HF200 and HF20, the company is trying to hit another target of the market offering to the consumers the Vixia HF S11.
These models, which can record 1,920×1,080-pixel resolution video, feature a larger, faster f1.8 10X HD lens and a fairly large, 1/1.26-inch 8-megapixel CMOS sensor, along with few pro capabilities. The models differ by internal memory, the HF S100 has none, while the HF S10 has a good 32GB and the HF S11 has 64GB. Another good feature on the HF S11 is Dynamic SuperRange OIS, that was designed to compensate the movement while you are walking and at wide angles, and a very Advanced Snapshot mode, which means you can take a four-second clips from your videos in playback mode, and obviously also in capture mode. The weighs is almost a pound, the camcorder feels light for its size. Always a good characteristic, but it’s not very compact. The camcorder has a nice, functional design, with only a few exceptions, with easy controls and a streamlined user interface. The larger size allows you to be a but more comfortable holding it and you can feel free to operate with a really good control of the camera.
One of the major things you see in this camcorder is the odd built-in lens cover, is not using the usual aperture-blade type we normally see, but it uses a closing-eye type, a bit strange but good as well .The only exception in that when closed, the two plastic pieces tend to clatter against each other; but is not a big deal since the camcorder is off, just a little irritation. Another strange feature is that the video light is not in the typical location we usually see, on the side of the lens, Canon has choose to put it on the pop-up flash. On the side of the lens barrel. there is the stereo mics sit, it allows for larger mics and it’s a very good selection for this camera, you have a better separation than with the typical positioning up or below the lens. There’s a common mic input (3.5-millimeter) and the other usual connectors: component, Mini HDMI and USB. So, we have a good product, we have only a little prob: the 2.7-inch display is the common low-resolution model we normally see, the little fonts look not so good, pixelated as usual and would be difficult for some to read, but you can see your image pretty well also in direct sunlight, however.
The market of chips in 2010
The economic crisis is touching almost every sector of the market, most tech sectors are in big difficulties, the semiconductor big industry had a tough start in last year (2009). But it improved in central months of the 2009 and it’s going to a healthy recovery in this year, everybody hopes so.
Chip revenue has a huge falling down during the last period, about $228.4 billion across the world last year, a drop of 10.5 % from the previous year (2008), This is what the number said at this particular moment, but the prevision for the future are good. This period signed the first time this big industry sales declines for few years in a row, a bad period of time for all the firm in this sector, but is the market really going to come back to the normality? The numbers speaks for a yes to this question, the sales are growing up and the companies are planning to increase their sales in the next few months. After a big decline in the last quarter of 2008 and the initial months of 2009, next months revenue growth for this industry. Peter Middleton, main research analyst at Gartner, told few days ago in a statement; “If we looked at the present results, 2009 achievements total was much milder than starting scared in the aftermath of this financial crisis.”
Among all the companies that produced chips for 2009, Intel continued to be the leader of the sector. Did you have doubt about that? The first place for almost 20 years, this is the 18th year or reign for the technologies giant. Meanwhile its fiscal year sales felt down about $1.6 billion, Intel boosted its market share, according with the huge demand for notebook and PCs, to 14.6 % from 13.6 %. At the second step of the chart there is Samsung Electronics that was one of the few companies producing semiconductor technology to see its revenue rise in the last 10 months.Samsung’s sales of NAND flash memory and core DRAM products had dropped in 2008, forcing vendors to reduce supply. Industry wide output cuts that chip supply, linked with a renew in PC demand, helped boost products prices. Hynix Semiconductor Inc., is the second hugest producer of computer memory all over the world and they reported its biggest profit in three years. So, many companies as Toshiba, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm and many others after a bad period are trying to revitalize their chips business.
