All software that is sold in the market comes with its unique product key. Product key is a alphanumeric or numeric code which lets the software know that you have purchased it and that you are the correct user for it. Once you enter the product key your software goes through a process of registration and verifies your uniqueness and authenticity online from the servers of that software manufacturer. Just like all every Microsoft Application does the same and goes through the same set of registration process. Whenever you install an office application it asks you to enter the product key which you would have received while purchasing the software. On entering this key it gets saved in your windows registry and it is from there it is picked when the registration process happens on your machine. But what if you enter an incorrect key, which some how got accepted but was not yours. Or what to do if due to some reasons you need to change the product key of your programme but it is not allowing you do so. It could also become a problem when you try to install the application again but is creates problems because of the already save product key. In order to change the products key of your Microsoft Office 2007 product your need to open the Windows registry for editing. This can be done by clicking on Start and then clicking on Run. If you are on Windows Vista then you might not get the Run option in the Start menu, please press the windows key along with letter ‘R’ (Windows + R). Once you get the Run box type ‘Regedit’ in it and press enter. Regedit is the default registry editor provided by every version of Windows. Change Microsoft Office 2007 Product Key
If you have Windows 32 bit edition then open – HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration. And if you have a 64 bit version of Windows then locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration.
Change Microsoft Office XP Product Key
If you have Windows 32 bit edition then open – HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Registration. And if you have a 64 bit version of Windows then locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Registration.
Under the registration key you will see a GUID of every office application installed on your computer. Click on every GUID and see the version in the right pane. When you get the version you are looking for, look for an entry called DigitalProductID in the same right side pane. Once you get it right click on it and delete it. similarly look for another entry called ProductID and delete it as well. Once you have deleted both the values close the registry editor and restart the computer. After restarting open the office application and you will see that now it will prompt you for entering the product key. Enter the new product key and it will get saved in the registry again.
