How to change the Volume Licensing product key on a computer that is running Windows XP Service Pack 1 and later versions of Windows XP

Step 2: In the text box, type the command ‘regedit’ and click OK.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE – Software – Microsoft – WindowsNT — Current Version – WPAEvents

Step 4: Now choose OOBETimer and right click on it. Choose the ‘Modify’ option that comes.

Step 5: The text box that opens, make changes to at least one of the digits of the present product key. This will deactivate the present windows.

Step 6: Go to ‘Start’ and click on ‘Run’.

Step 7: In the text box that opens, type “%systemroot%system32oobemsoobe.exe /a” and click OK.

Step 8: There will be a prompt. Select “Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows”. Click ‘Next’.

Step 9: Now click on ‘Change product key’.

Step 10: Enter the new product key and click on ‘Update’.

Restart your computer and repeat steps 1 and 2. This will ensure that the windows is activated on your system.

Method 2: Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) script

In cases where you need to change product key for multiple computers, it is best to use this method. This method helps you create a WMI script that helps change the volume licensing product key, while deploying this script in the start-up script. For computers running Windows service pack 1 or later versions should make use of the ChangeVLKeySP1.vbs script.
