Microsoft Security Essential is security software which is distributed with most of the Microsoft Windows operating systems free of cost. Currently it is being distributed with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating system and it is not compatible with any of the older Windows operating systems.

This can be termed as the replacement of Windows Live OneCare and it provides security from viruses, spyware, malware and any other security threat.  The project is developed under the known MMPC (Microsoft Malware Protection Center) idea.  This is a research being of Microsoft which continuously works to make Windows operating system secure from malicious programs. It works at the background and provides the real time protection to your system.

Although it is a very useful application but it may not provide you complete protection and it does not contain a strong firewall. So if you have any other security software package, then you might need to remove MS Security Center because it may slow down your computer performance. This will open a new dialogue box where you need to type the command ‘appwiz.cpl’ to launch the “Add/remove programs” wizard. You can open the same option from control panel as well. You need to select “Programs & features” if you are using Windows Vista of Windows 7 and ‘Add/Remove Programs’ in case of Windows XP operating system.

Step2:

The new windows will show the list of applications installed on your computer. Try to look for the option ‘Microsoft Security Essential’. Now click on ‘Microsoft Security Essential’ and then select ‘Remove’ button in Windows XP operating system or ‘Uninstall’ option if you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7 OS.

Step3:

This will initiate the un-installation process and once the process is finished, it will ask you to reboot the computer so that changes can take effect on your system. Restart the system once and at times you might need to perform the same steps multiple times to remove Microsoft Security Essential completely.

This is time when you can install any other security application on your computer.
