It’s a new trend now. Viruses disguise themselves as antiviruses and enter into our computers. Often they even take our help in getting installed and we do it intentionally, but we do this because we are not aware that it is not an antivirus but a virus which we are installing. In last couple of years we have seen many of these types which appear as if they are antivirus tools but apparently they are viruses which takes place in our computer and it becomes hard to get rid of them. To name some of these were Antivirus 2008, Antivirus 2009, Antivirus 2010, and the new one added to the list is Antivirus Plus. These viruses run a fake scan on your computer and show you a list of Trojans and Spywares residing in your computer. They claim safe removal of these infections but demand money for the same. Some of the innocent people even end up paying to this cheating software and damage their computers to a larger extent. In this post I will let you know how to safely and permanently remove Antivirus Plus virus from our computer.
Steps for removing Antivirus Plus
Step1: Be on the safer side. Always create a restore point before going into such kind of troubleshooting. If you end up making some mistake then with a latest restore point available you at least can go back from where you started. To create a restore point, do the following:
1. In XP click on Start, then Accessories, then System Tools and then System Restore
2. In Vista or Later click on Start and type System Restore and open the application when listed in search results.
3. Click Create a New Restore Point and click on Next
4. Give a name to the restore point. Writing current date and time is a good idea in the name field. Click on Create and close the System restore Windows once done.
Step2: Start Task Manager
Step3: Look for a process called AntivirusPlus.Exe and end the process tree
Step4: Look for some other processes names AntivirusPlus.lnk, Rundll32.exe, and uninstall Antivirus.lnk
Step5: Once the processes have been killed look for the same files on the hard drive and delete them permanently. You can use Windows search for finding these files.
Step6: Open registry editor by going to Start, Run and executing the following command “Regedit”.
Step7: Press F3 and search for AntivirusPlus. Continue deleting all such Registry entries.
Step8: Browse to the following Registry path “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and look for AntivirusPluse.Exe in the right side pane. Delete this entry.
Step9: Delete the file permanently from the Recycle Bin and then Reboot the computer.
By now your computer should be free of Antivirus Plus infection but if you feel some traces are still there then next time before following the same set of steps please restart your computer in Safe Mode.
