Download manager is a tool that is used to manage our downloads. It provides various features regarding download. Some of the common features of download manager include resumable capacity, download with increased data rate and queue downloading. Here, I am going to discuss about some of the download managers that runs on Ubuntu operating system.

d4x Download manager: It is Downloader for X(download manager) for Ubuntu operating system. Downloader for X is a powerful graphical enriched download manager. It supports both the HTTP(S) and FTP protocols and has nice graphical user interface. Apart from this, some of the actions of this program is performed by using the command line. This powerful tool for Ubuntu provides several features and their key feature includes proxy and SOCKS5 support, wildcard matching, recursive downloading, download scheduler, multiple download queues and even more. You can d4x in Ubuntu OS by the command sudo apt-get install d4x. This command will complete the installation process of d4x for Ubuntu. If you want to open the application then you need to go Applications -> Internet ->Downloader for X. Once it opens the application would be appeared to you on the screen.

FlashGet: Another powerful tool for managing the downloads in Ubuntu is flashget. Now I will describe that how you can install flashget for ubuntu. FlashGet is the leading download manager program and has the highest amount of users on the internet. It uses the MHT (Multi-server Hyper-threading Transportation) technique that supports various protocols and has excellent document management features. Also FlashGet is a freeware tool without any adware or spyware and also you can install flashget download manager in ubuntu operating system. All you need is to download the .deb package from internet. The .deb package installs the program by double clicking on it or you can run the following command from your terminal. sudo dpkg -i flashget-1.0.2-0_en.noarch.deb. After the execution of this command, flashget will be installed. Now you can open the flashget program from Applications->Internet->FlashGet.

MultiGet: The last download manager tool, I am going to discuss about is Multiget. MultiGet is an easy-to-use Graphical User Interface download manager for ubuntu / debian Linux operating system. It Look and work just like the famous windows download manager tool flashget. It also supports resuming downloads and HTTP/FTP protocols. It supports multi-tasking with multi-thread on multiple server. You can reconfigure the number of thread without stopping the current task. MultiGet runs smoothly on Ubuntu/Linux OS and it supports multiple operating systems too.  MultiGet is tested on many system such as including Windows XP, kubuntu, ubuntu, xubuntu, Fedora, mandriva, opensuse, PCLinuxOS, MEPIS , CentOS, Puppy, FreeBSD, MacOS and many more. MultiGet is available from the Ubuntu universe repository. To install MultiGet in Ubuntu, you have to go through the command. $ sudo apt-get install multiget or you can simply use the Synaptic Package Manager for installation.
