How to Install Windows 7 through USB Drive

There are many ways to install most popular operating system, Windows 7, on your system. Windows 7 is very well known for its friendly UI and various applications that are fun and makes you work effortless. Direct installation with the help of installation disk is the easiest way to install. If you wish to boot or start your system while installation is active, then it is not possible in this type of installation process. You have to use disc or USB flash drive to serve your needs.


To install OS through USB drive what you need is an ISO format file. ISO is an image of disk on which particular software is loaded and can be used as an option for disk itself. You further need to make use of special conversion tool called ‘Windows 7 USB Download Tool’ which converts drive in suitable format of installation. You have to use this conversion software as you can not use ISO file directly for installation purpose. Before process begins you also have to check your system configuration to examine whether system is ready for Windows 7 or not.

The installation process involves easy steps. After establishing connection between your system and USB drive, you have to restart the system. Whenever indicated press the corresponding key to move ahead through instruction queue. After sometime installation page appears with ‘Install Windows’ tab on it. Press the tab to begin the process. If you wish to repair your preinstalled operating system then click on the tab ‘Repair your Computer’ which will lead you to system recovery options. Follow instructions as per your requirements.

Configuring Settings

If you cannot see installation windows on your screen, you might have to change BIOS settings. It specifies the driver which you have to use as a startup device. If you are using newer system then it won’t create trouble for you while booting through USB flash drive but the problem arises with older systems. If you are not sure about how to deal with BIOS settings then better you consult nearest computer operator for it as incorrect changes might create issues with your computer startup. You can even consult manufacturer website for assistance. There is not a fixed way for making changes as these settings differ with manufacturer. To enter the setup page you have to immediately press the requested key like F12 or F2. If you fail to press the key and windows logo appears you have to again restart the system and try.

After gaining access to the BIOS setting screen, you have to choose option ‘Boot Order’ which is most probably in ‘Advanced settings’ menu. Up-down movements in the list enable us to select required option which is DVD driver or USB drive in this case. You have to make sure that the changes are saved in order to take effects and then exit. Again by restarting the system you can start installation as specified above by following instructions. Installation through USB drive enables us to access disk management while process is going on and thus is more efficient.
