Users can face few problems when they try to activate the Office 2007 suit or when they try to open a non-activated product of Office 2007 suit. Error messages or issues which might occur during the activation process are “Error: “Your software cannot be activated because the product key you installed with is not valid. Please uninstall the software and reinstall it using a valid product key”, The activation process fails. Also you receive a message stating that you have reached the limit on the number of computers on which you can activate the 2007 Office suite. When user tries to activate the 2007 Office suite, the Activation Wizard disappears. When user tries to use the Internet to activate the 2007 Office suite, you receive a communications-related error. When user tries to activate a 2007 Office suite, the Activation Wizard does not start. Additionally, you do not receive any error messages. On entering  the confirmation id received over telephone user gets an error message stating “the confirmation ID is invalid”. User gets a message “2007 Microsoft Office system is expired. In this expired state, many features of the version are unavailable until you convert to the full product. Click Convert to begin the conversion process.” On trying to activate the trial version user might get an error “The Microsoft Activation Assistant was unable to request your trial activation key”

All these problems described above are all related to the Windows Office 2007 activation and are because of a corrupt opa12.dat file. Given below are several methods which can be used for fixing such issues:

Remove the opa12.dat file.

opa12.dat file is the license file for Office 2007 suit. This can be deleted for reregistering the license information and creating a new opa12 file.

In Windows XP the opa12.dat file is located in the following folder:

%AllUsersprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data

In Windows Vista and Windows 7 the opa12.dat file is located in the following folder:

%programdata%\Microsoft\Office\Data

Ensure that the time and date settings on your computer are correct.

Open the control panel and open the Time & Date window. Check that your computers clock is set to the correct date and time.

Check if you have a Trial Version of Office 2007

Start Office Word 2007, Click on the Office Button and click on the Application Name options, Click Resources in the navigation pane, and Click About

Check if the Trial version has expired

Start Office Word 2007, Click on the Office Button and click on the Application Name options, Click Resources in the navigation pane, Click Activate and you will come to know if the Trial version has expired.

Check the Internet Connectivity

Open Internet Explorer and check if you are able to browse websites, You may also open the command prompt and try to Ping any website (ping www.google.com)
