The app market for Apple’s Mac named Mac App Store has crossed the milestone of 10,000 apps, say various reports making round on the Internet world. This feat has been achieved by the app store within a time period of 15 months. The Mac App Store was launched on 6 January, 2011 with just 1,000 apps. Apple has not confirmed the report yet.
The 10,000 plus apps include both paid and free-to-download apps. The Mac App Store is the only authorized way of getting applications and programs if one owns a MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, or iMac.
The Mac App Store was launched with an objective of making software programs, like Apple’s iMovie downloadable through a desktop retail location rather than selling software DVDs. The Store also allows Mac users to buy individual pieces of software, when they would otherwise have to buy a DVD bundle for only one program. Mac users had to upgrade to Snow Leopard to access the Mac App Store and the update to OS X Lion could be done via the Mac App Store.
According to reports, there have been 100 million downloads from the online app store for Mac. However, there is still some distance to cover if you compare it with the iOS App Store, which contains more than 600,000 apps.
