Software giant Microsoft has quietly launched out (pronounced ‘social’) from its beta version. Socl is a social ‘network’ that was being tested by a handful of university students since late 2011.

About network

According to Microsoft, is an experimental research project developed by the company’s FUSE Labs focused on exploring the possibilities of social search for the purpose of learning. The networking platform is somewhat similar to Pinterest where users can create boards. And, just like the early days of Facebook, right now the network is only for college students.

How network functions?

In a report from December 2011, Microsoft claimed that the site is not meant to compete with Facebook or other search engines, but to allow students to share materials for academic purposes. If you wish to be a part of this social networking platform, click here.
