There has been lot of speculation related to Adobe’s flash for mobile devices and after an unsuccessful attempt to strike a deal with Apple, the company seems to be in full gear to make amends and look above the horizon. Adobe’s is finally launching their flash payer 10.1 with the soon to be launched Android 2.2 and they hope to secure the market and spreading this to all the other operating systems.
This whole issue started after Apple vehemently refused the user of flash players in its iOS. As a result Adobe tried an indirect application that was able to work on iOS without any license hassles but this attempt was also thwarted by the developers of Apple, Hence it started a race where Adobe started looking for more companies who were in direct competition with Apple and then sell their product.
Now Adobe’s list of supporters and clients are still fairly distinguished and it was a wide range of companies. Other than Google’s Android 2.2 there is Palm’s revolutionary Web OS, Nokia’s Symbian operating system , Blackberry’s Motion , MeeGo from Intel and finally Windows Phone 7 are finally going to incorporate Flash Player 10.1 in their systems. Although it’s hard to say if the systems will provide the same during the launches of their new versions or flash will be put on download as a widget. There is one thing that is clear that Adobe has finally taken the Quantum step that it needed to take.
This present scenario seems to be a repeat of the situation that happened in the 1990’s when Microsoft had become so big that the other companies had started to feel threatened. As a result all of them decided to support Sun Microsystems’s Java and Linux OS in place of .NET and Windows, though this move didn’t change much in the fortune of Microsoft except the fact that it proved as a counterbalance for the ever expanding Microsoft.
Now Apple in reply has made its visions clear by expressing desire to build a web browser that that all the standard plug-ins in built of it. So that there will be no need to download separate plug-ins like Flash to run the necessary files.
For the future Adobe hopes to incorporate new phones to their ever increasing list, so that the presence of Adobe’s flash player stays relevant in this era of change. As for the Apple and Adobe’s animosity, I hope that it stays short lived because these are the two companies that can be easily said as the pioneers of the software industry and if they merge their might be a plethora of earth shattering products for us.
