Themis Computers based out of Fremont, California launched its Mission and Payload Systems Initiative (MPSI). Their aim is to provide integrated system solutions and other value-added services to military and aerospace engineers.
Themis Computers incorporated in January 1989, is a leading provider of Single-Board Computers (SBCs) and systems solutions for mission vital applications in aerospace, data/telecommunications, defense and industrial managing markets. It also manages computing reserves for financial services companies and embedded computing for intelligence and defense.
Specific market platforms that come under Themis Computer’s’ MPSI focus include Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAV), helicopters, fixed wing aircrafts, ground vehicles and military robotics. Some of Themis Computer’s customers that benefit from its exhaustive knowledge and resources to receive application-ready solutions include: Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Ericsson and Alcatel.
The MPSI target applications
• MPSI Target Applications include the following:
• UAV Sensor Processors
• Data Processing and Recording Units
• Mission Computers
• Display Processors
• EW / SIGINT Suite Controllers for new platforms as well as platform upgrades
As a part of the Mission and Payload Systems Initiative, Themis Computers has accumulated an increasing collection of 3U VPX conduction cooled hardware to use as building block keys for these applications. The new Themis hardware includes two chassis; the first a five Slot conduction cooled chassis and the second is an eight Slot half ATR conduction cooled chassis with universal cooling and configuration options.
Adding credence to Themis’ new 3U VPX strong chassis products are:
• Intel® Core™ i7 based Single Board Computer
• ATI E4690 supported General Purpose Graphics Processing Unit (GPGPU)
• Eight channel SATA / SAS RAID Controller with PMC/XMC mezzanine site
• 3U VPX Conduction cooled FLASH card with up to 256 GB capacity
• General purpose PMC/XMC carrier card for miscellaneous I/O
In addition, Themis Computers will also provide integration services and support for third party partner companies that will provide:
• Software Defined Radio (SDR) functionality
• FPGA & Power PC Processing
• Avionics Data Bus Interfaces including MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC 429
Themis’ approach to providing integrated system solutions employing this 3U VPX hardware includes being able to deliver a range of system configurations from existing stock, in record time, often in sixty to ninety days.
“These new products and our larger Mission and Payload Systems Initiative enable Themis to cost effectively meet the demands of emerging unmanned aircraft systems and defense robotics markets. This technology is equally well suited to transportation and traditional defense markets,” stated William Kehret, president of Themis Computer. “Our entry into these markets is a win-win proposition for us and our customers, who are now able to replace aging technologies with next generation, more cost effective and higher performance ecosystems”, Mr. Kehret added
