In March 2006 Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams founded the worlds famous micro-blogging website named twitter. It was launched for public use in July 2006. Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows you to post your latest updates. As it replicates the concept of mobile text messaging so the update limit is 140 characters per update. Web form, text message, or instant messages are the options from which you can choose from posting your updates. You can import your contacts from the popular services like Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo to find your existing peers on Twitter. Twitter launched Twitter Japan in April 2008, by partnering with Digital Garage.
Whenever one tries to use the search feature of Twitter to search names, the website return in result all types of tweets and names related to the searched keywords of the search query. Twitter has now come with a better interface to filter out exact stuff, and it has achieved this by dropping names in the search results.
Now the name results related to the search query appear in a horizontal bar just above the search result stream. The name search was already available from a long time but this is the first time that Twitter has placed it prominently in their stream.
The Good In It
The benefit of this feature is that now you would only the verified Twitter profiles in the name search results for which it shows related profiles. Let take an example that if I search for Tom Cruise, now there may be a number of profiles with that name, but it would only show the profile that has been verified by Twitter. You can also easily follow the desire profile now with a single click. No need to open that profile and click the follow button. This sounds super cool as now it is on the part of the provider to differentiate between the real and fake account and we can easily get real accounts and follow exactly want we want. This feature tends to help celebrities in getting more followers now as fake celebrity profiles would not appear any more. This feature has the credit to add another user discovery layer to this popular social media and micro blogging tool. It is proving to be the biggest one yet, potentially. That’s very powerful.
What Twitter Says About It
Twitter has now formally updated it docs with the description of this feature. In the previous year, to help the tweeples for SEO of user searching purposes, they tweaked their title tags. As quoted by the website, “The easiest way to find people is to type their name into the search box on the right hand side of your home timeline. We may show you the top three user results that match your query if there are highly relevant results. We will also provide you a link to user search to view all users that match your query. You can also use Twitter’s people search to find people who currently use Twitter. Click the Find People tab at the top of your page and enter your query. We use the full name as well as the user name fields to give you as many relevant results as possible.”
