Be it an email conversation, web surfing or a document creation, Acer Travelmate 4600 laptop has got the potential to get the person going. It weighs about 6.4 pounds and measures about 13.2 inches in width. The depth and thickness is 11.2 and 1.4 inches thick. When compared with the HP it weighs 6.5 pounds. Certainly, one would like to choose lesser load for better travel experience. That is the reason why for being lighter Acer has named it as Travelmate. Typing is so much comfortable with the Acer Travelmate 4600. It is designed in an ergonomically fashion to give a smooth experience. Unfortunately the multimedia features are not so effective in this model of Acer. There are three quick launch buttons for different applications and also there is a WiFi On/Off button for easy access. Compared to the old laptops, this new version is much quieter and faster. The only exception about this is that the DVD burner makes a lot of noise at times and one can listen to the sound of the internal fans at the bootup. It also passed the battery drain test by giving 4 hours of amazing battery life to the customers.

At the right side of the edge, there are 6-in-1 card reader, type II PC card slot, infrared port and all the major flash memory cards. USB 2.0, VGA, DVI, S-video, four pin Fire Wire and docking along with a Gigabit Ethernet jack plus are attached to the back edge of the device. Headphones, modem jacks, microphones, three USB 2.0 ports along with an integrated single layer DVD burner are included at the left side of the device.

Acer utilities include the power management, password management and other available basic settings. Other features include Cyber Link power DVD for disc playback and the NTI CD and DVD maker for burning the disk. As compared to the other models, this one would be very cost effective for the features it includes in the model.

The product comes with an average of one year warranty and it is through mails. It is disappointing to see that the Acer was not able to provide a round the clock phone support system. The support is from 8AM to 5PM CT in the weekends and 7AM to 9PM Central time on the weekdays. The support is not live so you would not get to talk to a real representative. Acer claims to return to the customer within an hour of the call but most of the time it doesn’t happen. It would be better if there is any other means of technical support, through chat or through any other means.

The suggested price for the Acer Travelmate in the market is $1,149 but it is found that most of the online resellers have increased the price to $1,200. With the combination of components and services it provides it sure is a fair deal with the Acer Travelmate even if it is not bought at the suggested price.
